IMG_20151019_140637584_HDR-2 We had a family fun day at the zoo on Monday. It was an unseasonably warm and sunny afternoon that we spent riding the carousel, train, playing on the outdoor playground, and walking around the zoo. IMG_20151019_145601867-2 IMG_20151019_153702185-2 We headed back to the zoo on Friday for Boo at the Zoo with friends. We lucked out with another really nice weather evening and lots of candy too!DSC_0005 DSC_0009IMG_0496-2

And on Saturday we made a short stint to downtown Powell for the Candy by the Carload event. Jim and Pat were here to watch Finn for the evening so they joined us as well. If you ask Finn who is holding him in the below photo – he promptly says “Chewbacca”. Later that night Kevin and I headed to the Ochmanek Halloween Party –  where, dare I say, we won the Most Creative Costume Award for our Steam Punk genre wardrobes. It was all Kevin’s idea and he executed it perfectly with our outfits and all the accessories 🙂 20151024_174753-2 DSC_0012 DSC_0018 DSC_0020 DSC_0021 DSC_0027 Here we are being interviewed by Veronica Cornerstone – she’s curious how it feels to win the Most Creative Costumer Award, lol. IMG_20151024_223821253-2 IMG_20151024_223827820-2 And here my little baker is helping make Pumpkin Pie bars!IMG_20151025_200336606

The other day Finn totally surprised me by singing the entire ABC song! I just couldn’t believe it so I had him do it again and I took a video. Listen to this guy!

In other tidbits, our exterior house painting project is now complete! I’ve taken some before and afters. Kevin installed new garage doors and Brett enclosed the bottom of our screened porch with cedar siding. Lily had one too many trips through the screens either after wildlife or deciding to let herself in the porch! Kevin and Brett also put in a new glass back door which allows so much more sunlight into our kitchen! We are really happy with the color – though it looks very different depending upon the light (daylight, twilight, night, full sun/clouds, etc) and it doesn’t seem to photograph how it looks in person. But here goes!IMG_20141216_163851963_HDR-2 DSC_0645DSC_0009DSC_0013

P U M P K I N!  If you know me at all, you know I love all things pumpkin!  One afternoon Kevin went shopping at our favorite place, Aldi, and came home with all kinds of yummy pumpkin goods. Thankfully, Finn shares my love of pumpkin – and of baking!  We’ve got plenty of things to make around here and Finn wanted to start by making a tower of all our goods.

This week Finn was able to test out his halloween costume at Dublin’s Spooktacular event.  It was a nice and warm fall evening and the crowds were crazy. So much so that when we arrived we headed right to get our “ticket” so we could “trick or treat” through the candy portion of the night and they were all out of tickets!  We got pretty lucky though, as we ran into one of our friends who had extra tickets so we were able to go through the candy line.  We also rode a hay ride, decorated a trick or treat bag, ran into several of our friends, met Minnie and Mickey Mouse, and played a couple of games of Pumpkin Bowling!DSC_0001 DSC_0006 DSC_0009 DSC_0010 DSC_0012 DSC_0015 DSC_0017 DSC_0021 DSC_0019 DSC_0023 DSC_0026 DSC_0028 DSC_0035 IMG_20151015_195619688_TOP-2 DSC_0036 IMG_20151015_200728183-2 IMG_20151015_200735520-2 IMG_20151015_200742201-2Friday was the annual Fall Play Date at Lehner’s Farm in Radnor. It’s a really fun and enjoyable place to visit. There are animals and many activities for the kids. This year we met a few new friends and Finn just loved all of the different things to do including the wagon ride out to the fields where Finn picked his own pumpkin. This time of year I really miss having the farm I grew up on. Even though I work at a plant nursery full of tractors, I long to have a big piece of land with a barn!DSC_0042 DSC_0044 DSC_0045 DSC_0051 IMG_20151016_115011825 DSC_0057 FullSizeRender_3 DSC_0053 DSC_0059 DSC_0062 DSC_0065 DSC_0067 DSC_0068 DSC_0070 DSC_0079 IMG_7785Finn and I woke up on Sweetest Day and baked Kevin his favorite, chocolate chip cookies. We had them in the oven and baked before we left for swim lessons! Of course, he loves to lick the beater. IMG_20151017_093118988Later that evening we headed to the New City Oktoberfest for a bit of food and fun. It’s really neat to see how Finn watches other kids and then begins to play with them. He’s so polite, yet soft spoken, he will regularly ask “please, may I play with you” or “please, may I play with that” in the quietest voice. At the Oktoberfest he had fun playing alongside other friends using a real hammer and nails to pound into a wooden stump. I cautioned him in the beginning that these were REAL tools – as he loves to go a bit nuts sometimes with his play workbench at home! He did great and was really good at hammering away. He also created some artwork at one of the kids tables. He’s growing up and we’re real proud. IMG_20151017_173635648While he doesn’t look super happy here – trust me, he is! Oftentimes when I walk in to get Finn in the mornings the first thing he will say is “can we go make toffee?”. He is the best helper. I sit him on the counter and he then adds sugar to my mug, puts the mug on the platform, empties the old k-cup and drops it into the trash, puts the new k-cup in, and pushes the start button. He loves to help and we have a good system 🙂 IMG_20151018_075951073_HDR

IMG_20151011_163303This week we had some more fall fun, this time picking apples on a beautiful, sunny, October afternoon at Lynd’s Fruit Farm in Pataskala. That place is just insane busy, so much so that even getting there you sit and wait in stand still traffic for about a mile prior the farm. But once you get into the orchards there is so much space to wonder that it doesn’t feel that crowded any more. We picked Golden Delicious and a red one (maybe Jonathan) that I can’t remember! Finn loves to reach for the highest apples we can find. They also have all kinds of fun kids activities. Finn had a blast. IMG_20151011_153733669 IMG_20151011_153837574 IMG_20151011_154306487 IMG_20151011_154311765 IMG_20151011_154314575 IMG_20151011_154418963 IMG_20151011_154438274 IMG_20151011_155634613 IMG_20151011_155706407 IMG_20151011_161155714 IMG_20151011_170039063-2 IMG_20151011_170651727-2 IMG_20151011_170743240-2 IMG_20151011_171405391-2 IMG_20151011_171743483-2 IMG_20151011_174932947-2 IMG_20151011_180850468-2 IMG_20151011_181652407_TOP-2 IMG_20151011_164841299 IMG_20151011_182447845-2 IMG_20151011_184213651-2 IMG_20151011_184239117-2 IMG_20151011_184613142-2IMG_20151011_173056475-2We also went to our first Powell Community Bonfire which was in downtown Powell at the Village Green Park.  There was a cool bonfire, live music, and free hot dogs and cider!IMG_20151010_194401613 IMG_20151010_195635469 IMG_20151010_200830096 IMG_20151010_201952163And afterwards we headed to Menards for a few items for various house projects. Finn liked kid-sized Santa and Snowmen 🙂IMG_20151010_211525031 IMG_20151010_211809012
