This week just kind of flew on by! I didn’t snap too many photos this week as I was fairly busy doing some prep-work for the NPC Fall Fest at church. A few weeks back my friend Paul asked if I would be willing to help with the Fall Fest activities. There wasn’t any designated organizer of the event, basically all of the staff was taking on additional pieces of the event to make it work, and he felt it was lacking some cohesiveness and someone to piece together all of the details. Kevin and I helped last year with the Chili Cook Off and he remembered we had some suggestions – so he asked if I could help. I guess that’s what happens when you open your mouth, eh? So, I took on the challenge and enrolled the help of Kevin and Amy too! Didn’t seem to daunting of a task, but man, there are just a ton of details to make something like that work. In the end it turned out to be a beautiful day. There were kids craft activities (pumpkin decorating, tattoos, leaf drawing), a balloon artist, bounce houses, a flag football tournament (complete with medals this year!), a chili cook off (with trophies for the winners!), and a bonfire with s’mores. Thankfully with the help of Kevin, Amy’s decorating skills and ideas, Sarah and Tricia’s help in the kitchen, and numerous other volunteers – it was a great day. Kevin conducted a double-blind contest for the chili using 4 judges. This year ended a 9-year losing streak for Pastor Dave as he finally won! But man, was it a busy day! We started the day in the nursery during church, and then stayed after to setup and then cleanup after the event. We didn’t get home until nearly 9 pm! And we were BEAT! Next year I’ll remember to take the next day off work! Sadly I didn’t snap too many photos but here are a few including the flower arrangements I made (cut at Millcreek, of course).
And here are a few others from our week. When Kevin got home one night he got his bike out of his car (his brother borrowed it while in town) and Finn wanted to ride, of course. Lily enjoyed being outside with us too. And some of Finn’s artwork and mess making creative skills.

September 11, 2016 ~ Preschool week!
Take a look at our Tiger! Finn started school on Thursday this week and he had a great day! His teachers, Miss Jen and Miss Irma, are really sweet. They are really big on the kids being independent so when Finn arrives at school he puts his lunch in a basket outside the classroom, finds his cubbie and puts his book bag there, and then heads into class. When i picked him up he was so excited to tell me about his day! He always likes to show me how much of his lunch he ate.
Finn shared several stories of his day while we were on our way to pick up our pottery projects. Finn’s spider man bank turned out so great! And he was REALLY excited to look at him again when we got home.
Griffin insisted that he was still hungry on his way home so we stopped for a tasty lunch a Culver’s (his favorite spot). I couldn’t believe it – he ate his entire lunch, including his custard with M & M’s. Our week was full of other fun times too. On Friday, Millcreek hosted our annual Open House. Kevin and Finn arrived just as the festivities were ending. Kevin only stayed a short while so he could go pickup George, the RV, from his parents. He put together a thoughtful tailgate for our friend Chris Manning’s 40th birthday. He went down to campus at 5:30 am to get a great tailgating spot. Finn and I joined him in the morning prior to the other fellas showing up. I called it the breakfast shift! Anyhow, it was Finn’s first time for tailgating on campus – he loved playing football with daddy, eating timbits, and watching all of the activity.
Look at Finn’s awesome throw and follow-through. This boy has some skills 🙂
And here are a few other shots from our week. Finn always loves to help me water the trees and the garden, some basement fun learning about dinosaurs this week, and Uncle Sean’s arrival in town for the week.
And here’s one from last Sunday that I forgot to include – a surprise baby shower cookout for our friends, Claire and Eric, who are expecting a little boy in a month! Finn had lots of fun meeting some new kiddos.
October 9, 2016
This has been a week filled with memories to last forever!
Early in the week we took Finn to his semi-yearly dental check-up. His teeth were in tip top shape and his hygienist gave him numerous compliments on good brushing and being the best well behaved 3 year old she’s ever had. He loves going there and getting to pick out a bag of goodies at the end that includes things like a sticker, a tiny toy, a toothbrush, and floss.
We also ventured out on Griffin’s first field trip for school to Leed’s Farm. It was a super beautiful day, actually quite warm, to explore the outdoors and see a lot of animals. He loved feeding the goats and going down the huge slide. We also went on a lengthy wagon ride which ended up in the pumpkin patch where we picked pumpkins and gourds to take home. His Tiger class and several other classes from NPCA were there at the same time so we were able to hang with familiar faces and friends.
Leed’s is about 5 minutes from Millcreek so we make a quick pit stop there and of course, Finn wanted to drive the tractors.
Next up: OSU vs Indiana football game on Saturday! As it turns out, the OSU-IU game was what Kevin and I went to 5 years ago for our “first date”. We had met the night before at a pre-arranged happy hour and he asked me to go to the OSU game the next day, and I said yes. We thought it would be so neat to take Finn to his first ever OSU football game nearly 5 years after his dad and I met, attending the first game we ever saw together. We wanted to make it really fun, so Kevin got up at 4:30 am to drive to Enon to borrow George (the camper) from his parents! He arrived back in Columbus at Campus around 6:15 am to secure an awesome tailgating spot for us! I woke up early too (not nearly as early as Kevin!) to start making our food and getting all the necessary supplies together. Once Finn woke up (which was actually really late, like after 9 am) we got in the car and headed to a pit stop at the grocery on our way to the tailgate. As it turned out, I pulled in and I knew ahead of time the lot was full but the gentlemen let me park temporarily at the entrance to unload all of our things. Then, just as Kevin jumped in the car to move it I noticed someone was leaving the lot. Kevin went and asked the gentlemen if he could take their spot and they let us in – free! That was a super nice treat and made it so awesome that we were in the same lot, just cars away! Kevin had a great spot with a large lawn area where we setup a tent, table, and all of our food as well as cornhole and lawn chairs. We spent a few hours hanging out along with our friends, The Vertuccis, who came down too. We made such last minute plans to go to the game that not too many friends were able to join us, but we’re glad they came as Finn had a great time playing with them!
Next up we headed to the game. It was a gorgeous and sunny afternoon game, 3:30 pm kickoff. Once we had made the decision to go to the game Kevin bought our tickets – and man – they were awesome! They were in almost the exact same spot we sat in 5 years ago, A deck, first row, at the 12 yard line near the open end of the ‘shoe. It is right where the teams come out! We had such a fun time and it was so great to see the amazement on Finn’s face. He was just taking it all in. He was really in to the game too and loved the half time break to go get some snacks.
Perhaps the most memorable portion of the day was getting to meet Brutus! He ran by our section many times and this particular time we had just gotten back from grabbing our half time treats. Our hands were full, but we flagged him down and Finn got to smack his hand but we didn’t have any time to get our phones out to snag a pic. Thankfully, our seat-neighbors yelled for Brutus to come back – and he did – and this time he jumped up onto the railing, gave Finn a fuzzy on his head, and posed for several photos. It was so great! People all around us were so excited and cheering and snapping photos. The first photo of this post was actually taken by the lady sitting next to us! And that was a great end to our week!
