What another busy and fun week we’ve had! As you can see, Reid is enjoying the holiday season and his first round of so many fun family traditions. He also had avacado for the first time this week as you can see what remains on his face for this picture. He’s pretty curious about it and is good at picking it up and getting it in his mouth. From there he makes the funniest faces, gags (which I REALLY don’t like but know is normal), and then spits most of it out as he’s using how to use his tongue to move food around. He’s just got the best smile :).

Throughout the week this week we tackled our tree and got it all decorated. Each year after Kevin gets the lights on, Griffin gets to choose the first ornament to put on the tree. It’s so much fun to open the box of ornaments that are his and remember each one and why he was given it. This year he chose a new ornament that he had picked out on Black Friday shopping with Kevin – a moose! He really does love decorating the tree and says the cutest things. I usually hold him up on my shoulders so he can decorate higher up on the tree and then we get on a ladder at some point too. This year he was so excited to get on the ladder and he went super high up all on his own without any encouragement. Once he got up he said “I’m a brave man” shortly followed by “okay, it’s kinda scary up here I think I want to get down!”. But he stuck it out and hung some ornaments on the tree. We save the ones all the way at the top for Daddy since you have to basically be on the top step of the ladder and then reach high!  I love sneaking in to Reid’s room and checking on him at night. This picture is fuzzy since it was taken in mostly dark, but this night he was clutching his bunny. He honestly doesn’t seem to care if he has it or not, which is fine by us, but I thought this was cute :).  Here are the boys one morning after Kevin and I headed off to work. It brought a smile to my face! Debbie is really good about doing art projects and painting. It’s also fun that Griffin and Sam are old enough to take pictures of things now too! Here is Reid stamping his reindeer feet for his reindeer project.  Paci’s everywhere, eh? But at least this way he soothes himself when he wakes up and decides he has to have one! He’s definitely a tummy sleeper and moves around in his bed a TON. The pacifiers regularly fall out of his bed (er, he throws them out or drops them when he’s banging them against the slats!) so having multiples is a good thing. He also prefers the 0-6 month pacifiers as the 6+ month ones have a new shape with a little roundness to the end. I’ve found that he will take them when he’s happy, but if he’s tired or fussy he will put one it and take it right out and try another. Kinda fun to watch on the video monitor.  And here we are in our unplanned but color coordinated winter pajamas! This week I took Griffin to school a couple days which was fun as he was Top Banana! He was super bashful about me wanting to take his picture but I got it nonetheless. As I’ve probably mentioned time and time again, Brutus is always in the midst of the action. He just begs for attention by inserting himself into every situation and he absolutely loves to lay on Reid’s blankets when they are on the floor.  Reid isn’t really pulling himself up yet, but if you prop him up against something he’ll hang tough for a few seconds.  He is more inclined to bounce his little legs and do a dance than stand still. I really enjoyed picking Griffin up from school and hanging out at home. One afternoon it was a terribly yucky weather day out so we snuggled up on the couch and watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It was the perfect thing. I had Finn model his Thanksgiving hat from school before we watched our movie. Shall we say, I’m not the best about emptying his folder each day after school. We’re enjoying our new couch and in particular sitting in our family room on quiet evenings after Reid and Finn are in bed for the night. There isn’t anything better than a Christmas tree, blanket, and hot beverage! On Saturday Kevin and Finn (and Brutus and Lily for 2 minutes) went out and raked up our leaves in the front yard and walkway to clean things up for our guests. Finn loved jumping in the pile, Brutus wasn’t quite sure what to do, and Lily sniffed around and then was happy to come back inside. Later that morning we had our annual Candy Making Party at our house with Mom and Dad, the Bethunes, Mannings, Conrads, and Ryans. It’s one of my favorite Christmas traditions and of course all about family and treats. Mom planned and made some super cute crafts with the kids, we decorated sugar cookies, made buckeyes, four flavors of hard tack (sassafras, lemon, peppermint, and cinnamon), and caramel pretzel bites. It was constant motion for several hours but tons of fun! Reid was a great napper during the party which was a great help! Then when he was up he was a happy guy and a hit with everyone who was here.  The Ryans brought us a beautiful flower arrangement too. Such a thoughtful gift and so pretty! My favorite are the hypericum berries.

Happy guy! It’s been a whirlwind week yet again with the a trip to Mansfield and Enon for Thanksgiving, Black Friday shopping, and our annual Christmas tree hunt at Cackler Farms. As always, each day is filled with fun yet passes too quickly. We really feel fortunate that we get to see all of our family for each of the holidays, though I wish we could spend a week at each place rather than a day or less!

Mom and Dad had fun kids activities for all of the cousins – turkey brownies! It was fun to watch each kid make the creation their own. And sneak some candies during their creation (oh wait, was that just Finn?!).

Reid had his first finger food – celery! He was so wanting to participate and put food in his mouth so we gave him a celery stalk and he made some serious headway gumming and chewing on it. He was a happy guy.
Lily and Brutus make themselves right at home and they like to be near the fire in the family room. Lily gets extra spoiled by being up on the comfy couch! Griffin really loves to sleep next to Brutus. Some day I hope we can have him sleep in Finn’s room at our house. But for now, there are far too many things to destroy in his room – not to mention that Brutus gets up super early in the morning (5:30-6:30ish) to start the day with his breakfast and we don’t want Griffin getting up that early! The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is our traditional seed planting day. We weren’t as efficient as years past with the new dynamic of Reid and just spending time together hanging out (and eating, of course). We were able to get about 8 trays done though. And Griffin and Rowan enjoyed learning about what we do and helping Grandpa set out the flats and get the shelves ready for planted trays of seeds.  On Thanksgiving morning we woke up (early!) and by 8 am Griffin and I had our pecan pie in the oven! He loves being the mixer and dumper. And it was yummy if I do say so myself :).  Watching a bit of the Macys parade before we headed outside (in the 28 degree weather) to take family photos! We caught the Power Rangers balloons.  Amy brought her camera and took our family photos, cousins photos, and photos of all of us together. I even included the outtake, lol. This is only a portion of them that I had on my phone – I’ll add more when I get them off my other computer! We enjoyed a yummy lunch at Dave and Gayle’s house along with most of the Armstrong family. Even though we eat two meals, there is hardly any overlap in the food other than turkey and mashed potatoes. And my favorites are always the side dishes anyway! The kids get to feed the horses special treats of apples and peppermint crunch treats. I enjoy  petting them and feeding them too – I always thought I’d have a horse someday but I doubt that will ever happen and I wouldn’t even know how to care for one! But I picked Dave’s brain about his horses and that was fun. I guess maybe like grandkids – they’re fun to visit and then you can leave!
I realized I didn’t snap any photos of dinnertime in Mansfield but I did get a few random pics.  The kids put on a concert for us where they each played a piece of their own creation on the piano. They were quite fun to listen to and quite different from one another. They were cute and proud.  We hit up Polaris and Easton this year on Black Friday. The crowds, traffic, and parking were crazy but we had great success and enjoyed a nice breakfast at Bob Evans and dinner at Bon Vie. Reid did great for the whole day. We put him in the stroller seat for the first time (as opposed to the car seat attached to the stroller) and I think he enjoyed being able to be reclined and have a more spacious seat.  On Saturday we headed to Cackler to get our Christmas tree. It was a nice afternoon and we found a tall and pretty one really pretty quickly. Kevin brought his battery powered drill so we were in and out pretty quickly. We went during the first part of the Michigan game so we were eager to get home and see what was happening. We ended up getting a 12′ Cannan Fir that we love! Matching winter pajamas! Kevin and I brought the tree in and set it up on Sunday. Then while Griffin and I ran some errands Kevin got it straightened up and the lights put on by the time we were home. It fits perfectly in the corner of our family room and we didn’t have to trim any off the top this year :).  And here Brutus is getting comfy on our new rug. We got it back in February but have had it rolled up in the loft until we had new furniture to go with it. Our new couch arrived on Sunday – so now our room is transformed and we are looking forward to enjoying our new digs.

November 19, 2017 ~ 26 weeks

Our vacation in Tennessee continued through Friday of this week. We adventured to Dollywood two days this year which gave us a lot more time and we found so many new things! There was an entire section full of many roller coasters we’d never been to in years past and at every single one there was literally not a line at all – Kevin was able to get right on and in every case he rode in the front seat/car. We also enjoyed some lazy days at our cabin. We enjoyed the slow pace of a couple of cabin days too. I spent a fair bit of time in front of the computer playing catch up from previous blogs that I hadn’t gotten around to posting. I enjoyed my pjs and the couch with some coffee :). We had a nice hot tub too. For our 5th Anniversary Kevin made a lovely dinner – grilled cheese and a deluxe salad along with a taquito appetizer. Life is a little different with a 6 month and 4 year old, no fancy or crazy nights out. But that is just fine by me – we’re thankful for our blessings, our marriage, and our time away.

Another first for us this year was putt-putting in downtown Gatlinburg. Griffin got a hold in one! This course is up in the hillside and overlooks the main road in Gatlinburg. I walked with Reid in the sleeper for the first course and when they wanted to play another I sat in a nice rocking chair in the sunshine while Reid slept on me. I enjoyed that!  We enjoyed more time at the Island. Griffin loved going on the adventure course this year and went on it a couple times during each of our visits.  And here are a few pics I forgot to include in the post from last week of Griffin chasing the chickens at Dixie Stampede, plus our official photos from that night. Sorry for the poor quality!

After we got home Friday night the boys hit their bed hard! I love to capture pictures of them sleeping. Reid is a tummy sleeper just like Finn. And Finn doesn’t stay in the same place very long. Every time I check on him he’s in a different position be it sideways, upside down, underneath his covers, on top of his covers, etc.
