Two months old!

Look at me!

Finn is two months old today, 5/16/13.  He is growing up so fast it is really hard to believe. He is interacting with us more and more each day. He smiles and coos and makes the cutest little “ahhh” when he stops short of sneezing.

Our little man is often accompanied by Lily. She loves to get next to him on the floor during tummy time or play time.

My buddy Lily, always getting in on the action!

Finn ~ 4 weeks

DSC_0635On Saturday we made impressions of Finn’s hands and feet for a keepsake we will hang on the wall of his nursery. We attempted to do it all while he was sleeping, however, he woke up in the middle of it and he was NOT happy! Here they are – they didn’t turn our quite as good as I had hoped as the material was really light and I guess we didn’t press his little hands and feet into them enough so the material would hold the impression very well.  In the end we got some decent impressions we will tell after they dry.DSC_0642

We made our first family shopping trip to the grocery store this week and Sunday was full of activities with church and errands to several stores. Finn is wanting to be held a lot during the day and doesn’t take the longest naps by any means. He seems to do well in his car seat though, so on Monday I headed out for several errands with Finn to the bank, dry cleaner, baby store and the like and he slept the entire time. He usually has a couple of fussy periods during the day or evening and then once night time comes along he sleeps really well.  I joke that he is like his daddy, and once the pumpkin hour of 9:30-10 pm rolls around he is ready for bed, just like clock work. And so far it is proving to be true! Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (89) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (160)IMG_20130411_124149_966 IMG_20130411_123930_539 IMG_20130410_111104_637 IMG_20130411_074248_187 IMG_20130411_205550_091 IMG_20130413_112352_480 IMG_20130412_070410_034

On Tuesday I took Finn for his first adventure to my work, Millcreek. He was awake and alert almost the entire time. Everyone adored him and commented on his hair. It was a beautiful, warm, 75 degree sunny day. It was pretty breezy so the wind blew right threw his hair. Most everyone commented that Finn looks just like his daddy. Unfortunately, I didn’t snap a single photo.

Thursday was a successful day as Finn took a couple of long naps in the cosleeper. He then followed up with his first official blow-out right onto my pants! He is quite a happy baby most of the time. This afternoon he was quite happy and content while he was sitting in my lap up in his room. He was just gazing toward the stained glass windows and the sunlight in his room.IMG_20130410_134941_708

The highlight of this week was the birth of Greta Elyse Bethune! We had been awaiting her arrival, as she too was over-due by 12 days! Everything worked out great – Amy was induced on Friday, which allowed Kevin to work from home and watch Finn so that I was able to be at the hospital during the delivery. Kevin, Finn and I headed to Amy and Andy’s house around 9 am. Kevin took our van downtown for a brief work meeting and I headed to the hospital in my parents car. My parents watched Finn (and Graham and Rowan!) while Kevin was at his meeting. Then he returned to pick Finn up and bring him to the hospital parking lot for me to feed him. It all worked out great as I was able to get lunch for myself and Andy too. Then Kevin dropped me back off at the hospital and headed for some errands with Finn, including taking him along while he got a quick haircut, got the car washed, ran to the bank, and so on. Daddy was really ambitious!  I was getting ready to head back out to the car around 5 pm for another feeding, but rather quickly it became “go” time in the labor and delivery room! Things changed very fast and within about 12 minutes Greta Elyse was born at 5:17 pm, weighing in at 7 lb 10 oz and 20.5”.  Kevin, Finn and myself all headed back to the hospital later that evening – complete with birthday cake for Greta. We joined my parents, Graham, and Rowan in welcoming Greta, the first granddaughter to the family!Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (157) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (164) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (155) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (95)Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (148) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (119) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (126) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (105)

Finn ~ 1 week

DSC_0402We have had a nice first week at home! Kevin has had the week off work so he has been around with us the whole time. We have had several visits including our good friend and Pastor, James and Laura, and our good friend Megan.  My mom has been quite helpful and made us wonderful dinners.  Nursing is taking me some time to perfect, let’s say, and Kevin is being quite the trooper helping me get it all figured out. He gets Griffin ready and gives him to me for the feeding, then takes him when I’m finished. Kevin has also been on “night duty” staying up or sleeping with Griffin in his nursery while I sleep in our bed. That has been wonderful and allowed me to get an hour or two of peaceful, non-worry sleep! We each sleep when we can get it!IMG_20130319_075034_761DSC_0324DSC_0745 DSC_0747 DSC_0748 DSC_0746

Wednesday, March 20, was our First appointment at the pediatrician’s office. Griffin checked in at 6 lb 14 oz, up from Monday’s discharge weight of 6 lb 10 oz.  I was a happy momma! It was a fun visit – Griffin spit-up while laying on the exam table, and then when we changed his diaper he peed all over! It was a busy visit, let’s say!  But in the end he checked out great – the doctor said everything looked really good.  My milk came in today – right on time according to all of the books and doctors. And while I was feeding Griffin at 1 in the morning he had his very first audible and non-meconium poop.  I was by myself nursing him in his room and it startled me it was so loud! Then I had a giggle fit for a minute or two as it was just the most loud and unexpected thing! He had the cutest face when he was finished, like he was so happy, it was rather cute. DSC_0314

And don’t worry, we fixed the straps on his legs before we left in the car. We’re newbies, you know!DSC_0311 DSC_0321 DSC_0319 DSC_0317

We hosted a birthday dinner to celebrate Amy’s birthday. Amy, Andy, Graham, and Rowan came over along with my mom and dad. My parents prepared a lovely dinner and then we had dessert and present time. It was a fun evening and there were a couple of times I was laughing so hard I was in pain, literally, as you can see below.  Griffin slept in his carseat/stroller through the whole thing!DSC_0325 DSC_0339 DSC_0334 DSC_0341DSC_0734 DSC_0732

When Kevin changed Finn’s diaper at 6 am on Thursday, (his 6th day) he noticed that his umbilical cord had fallen off! That seemed pretty early to me, as most everything we had read said 10-14 days, and when we were at the Pediatrician’s office on Wednesday mentioned the same time frame.  But it looked good.  My mom came down to help out and it has been wonderful as she has stayed the night too. My dad also also been a few times and they have made us some delicious meals! My parents left Thursday morning to head home for a few days and Kevin’s parents came later that evening to visit. We enjoyed a nice dinner with them.IMG_20130319_232716_181 IMG_20130319_231322_632DSC_0749 IMG_20130319_214531_969 DSC_0791DSC_0379 DSC_0753 DSC_0393 DSC_0388

On Friday, Kevin had to go in to work for a bit so it was the first stretch of time where I was home alone with Finn. He did great (and so did I!). He ate and slept the entire time – I mean, really, what else would a baby do? I had to head in to my doctors office for a follow up. Turns out I have a urinary tract infection from the catheter, not all that uncommon. I am on some antibiotics for the next several days. My lower legs and feet are also crazy swollen, I guess that happens sometimes after delivery and my doctor wasn’t overly concerned about it. It is the craziest thing ever as I can barely wear flip flops!IMG_20130319_201406_658

Friday was also the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament so we dressed Finn in his OSU attire (the first clothing we bought when we found out he was a boy!) and got him game ready.DSC_0398Millcreek sent a lovely fruit and flower basket along with a box of chocolates – it was so very thoughtful. And here are some other photos from our first week at home!
