Finn ~ 8 weeks

8weeks

It was a pretty low-key week around here this week. Sunday after church we headed to Amy and Andy’s house for a bit of lunch. Then Andy and Kevin tackled hanging a large mirror in their dining room before we headed home for our visitors, Brett and Missy.  They came to spend the afternoon with us – and announced THEY GOT ENGAGED!  Yay!  A big congrats!! No wedding date just yet, but we are quite excited. We went out to dinner to celebrate and somehow we didn’t snap one photo during their visit, ugh!

We had several firsts this week!  Saturday Kevin and I worked in the yard while Finn napped for 2 ½ hours! I thought for sure the monitor wasn’t working!!  But sure enough, he just took a fabulous nap which allowed us to work out in the yard for a couple of hours.  We later headed to Easton for a bit of shopping and then it was Finn’s first trip to an Indian Temple (mine too!) to celebrate the birthday of our good friend. We enjoyed wonderful Indian food and everyone adored Finn. It was the first time many of them had seen him and he was quite a hit.

Having time off work has been really enjoyable. While my once sleepful nights are now full of feedings I’m also lucky to enjoy sleeping in many mornings or taking naps throughout the day. Finn has had a couple days of good naps – which have been around 2 hours.  That is a lengthy nap for this little one. I’m also able to meet up with friends for lunch or dinner and enjoy a lot of flexibility which I have greatly enjoyed. This week, Sarah and I enjoyed a nice brunch at First Watch. She helped me in reviewing many resume’s and with my overall quest for finding childcare. Having been through this numerous times before with her four girls, she has been a huge resource and help in making me feel like I’m on the right track! She has given me numerous tidbits of info and advice that have been much appreciated!!

I will be going back to work in about a month so we thought we should see how Finn does with a bottle of breastmilk. I’ve begun to pump here and there to build of a “supply” of sorts. We thought it would be good so we could have a backup plan if I’m out and about sometime without him and he  gets fussy and wants to eat. So on Monday Kevin gave Finn his first bottle and he did great!!

Here is Lily in her favorite spot. Whenever we are in Finn’s nursery she cozies up in the small corner behind the chair and alongside Finn’s crib.  This girl loves small spaces!

Finn ~ 4 weeks

DSC_0635On Saturday we made impressions of Finn’s hands and feet for a keepsake we will hang on the wall of his nursery. We attempted to do it all while he was sleeping, however, he woke up in the middle of it and he was NOT happy! Here they are – they didn’t turn our quite as good as I had hoped as the material was really light and I guess we didn’t press his little hands and feet into them enough so the material would hold the impression very well.  In the end we got some decent impressions we will tell after they dry.DSC_0642

We made our first family shopping trip to the grocery store this week and Sunday was full of activities with church and errands to several stores. Finn is wanting to be held a lot during the day and doesn’t take the longest naps by any means. He seems to do well in his car seat though, so on Monday I headed out for several errands with Finn to the bank, dry cleaner, baby store and the like and he slept the entire time. He usually has a couple of fussy periods during the day or evening and then once night time comes along he sleeps really well.  I joke that he is like his daddy, and once the pumpkin hour of 9:30-10 pm rolls around he is ready for bed, just like clock work. And so far it is proving to be true! Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (89) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (160)IMG_20130411_124149_966 IMG_20130411_123930_539 IMG_20130410_111104_637 IMG_20130411_074248_187 IMG_20130411_205550_091 IMG_20130413_112352_480 IMG_20130412_070410_034

On Tuesday I took Finn for his first adventure to my work, Millcreek. He was awake and alert almost the entire time. Everyone adored him and commented on his hair. It was a beautiful, warm, 75 degree sunny day. It was pretty breezy so the wind blew right threw his hair. Most everyone commented that Finn looks just like his daddy. Unfortunately, I didn’t snap a single photo.

Thursday was a successful day as Finn took a couple of long naps in the cosleeper. He then followed up with his first official blow-out right onto my pants! He is quite a happy baby most of the time. This afternoon he was quite happy and content while he was sitting in my lap up in his room. He was just gazing toward the stained glass windows and the sunlight in his room.IMG_20130410_134941_708

The highlight of this week was the birth of Greta Elyse Bethune! We had been awaiting her arrival, as she too was over-due by 12 days! Everything worked out great – Amy was induced on Friday, which allowed Kevin to work from home and watch Finn so that I was able to be at the hospital during the delivery. Kevin, Finn and I headed to Amy and Andy’s house around 9 am. Kevin took our van downtown for a brief work meeting and I headed to the hospital in my parents car. My parents watched Finn (and Graham and Rowan!) while Kevin was at his meeting. Then he returned to pick Finn up and bring him to the hospital parking lot for me to feed him. It all worked out great as I was able to get lunch for myself and Andy too. Then Kevin dropped me back off at the hospital and headed for some errands with Finn, including taking him along while he got a quick haircut, got the car washed, ran to the bank, and so on. Daddy was really ambitious!  I was getting ready to head back out to the car around 5 pm for another feeding, but rather quickly it became “go” time in the labor and delivery room! Things changed very fast and within about 12 minutes Greta Elyse was born at 5:17 pm, weighing in at 7 lb 10 oz and 20.5”.  Kevin, Finn and myself all headed back to the hospital later that evening – complete with birthday cake for Greta. We joined my parents, Graham, and Rowan in welcoming Greta, the first granddaughter to the family!Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (157) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (164) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (155) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (95)Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (148) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (119) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (126) Greta Elyse Bethune 04 12 13 (105)

Our Wedding Day!

We are so blessed to have had such a wonderful wedding day! We were surrounded by our families and friends and the day couldn’t have been more perfect!

Be forewarned – there are lots of photos here! Henry Photography did an excellent job capturing everything about the day.

Kevin and I (ok, mostly me!) wanted to do a “first look” so we could see one another and spend some special moments with each other in daylight, prior to taking our vows.  It was a sunny, yet cool day. After our meeting on the roof-top terrace at the Renaissance Hotel we spent some time going around Columbus with our wonderful friends who joined us as our wedding party! And we were fortunate to have our friend, and pastor, Rev. James Kessler unite us in marriage!

How does it go – great  minds think alike? Little did Kevin or I know we had very similar gifts to give one another. You see Kevin always joked about getting married wearing a kilt fashioned out of the Armstrong tartan.  Since the kilt idea wasn’t going to happen my sister helped me come up with the idea of kilt “socks” that Kevin could wear with his tux. I was able to find a shop in Scotland (online of course) that would custom make the socks in the Armstrong tartan! I was really excited 🙂 Then, as a complete surprise to me, Kevin had the idea to have his dad present to me a sash, fashioned out of the Armstrong tartan and complete with the Armstrong coat of arms pin, at the beginning of the reception. I was floored and thought it was the perfect gesture to welcome me to the family!

We will let the pictures tell the rest of the story!
