DSC_0388Finn is taking refuge on the slide in the basement! We’re thankful we have a nice large play area downstairs – it is our escape these days, especially as it has been much warmer and the porch gets pretty toasty and our little man becomes a sweat-box.

Now that the fury of the busy spring season has wound down, I am able to take some time off work here and there.  Last week I was able to join a the play group at the Sprinkler Park in Dublin. One of my friends organizes a monthly outing of moms and kiddos to fun places all around town. It was a rather warm day, and as you can see the park was full of kids. Finn enjoyed playing in the water and was pretty tired by the end!DSC_0305 DSC_0307 DSC_0308 DSC_0314 DSC_0317 DSC_0319 DSC_0321 DSC_0324 DSC_0325 DSC_0328Each day when I get home, I take Finn outside and we check on the plants in the garden and around the patio. Finn curiously walks around each of the patio planters and touches the plants (eggplant, celosia, and the veggies). I tried to choose plants, like the celosia, that he would like to touch. He babbles all kinds of things while walking around. This week I picked a green bean and a few strawberries which he ate while we were still outside! Every now and then he can be a bit rough with the watering wand, using it more like a sword, but overall he does pretty well without crushing too many things! With all of this rain the garden is getting pretty huge. The zucchini are getting tall (around the tall cedar spike) and several of the butternut squash, cucumbers, and melon are growing down to the ground outside the box. The tomatoes are flowering, as are the peppers, cucumbers, cantaloupe, and the watermelon are just throwing up some buds.  It’s getting exciting out there!  I found a cute “garden cart” for Finn that includes some tools and potted “flowers” that he enjoys playing with. He even bends down to smell them without being prompted. DSC_0375 DSC_0376 DSC_0379 DSC_0419 DSC_0368 DSC_0373On Friday, mom and dad came down to watch Finn while I was at work and Kevin was working on the flooring. They had a fun afternoon along with Amy and the kids going to the zoo where they rode the choo choo train and the carousel!  Then they spent the afternoon at Amy’s since our place is rather loud with construction noises.  It was mom and dad’s 44th wedding anniversary, so we ended the evening with a family dinner at the Pint Room in Dublin. Here is Finn on his way home from the zoo, he apparently crashed easily shortly thereafter!MG_0472_2IMG_20140627_180349279

Finn continues to love to eat, any time of day! If he sees you having a “snack” (snaa) he will ask for some too, usually by saying “bite”, followed by “peeee” (please!). It’s actually pretty darn cute.  Not sure where he packs all the food! Meat is still a favorite – sausage, burger, hot dogs, meatballs, and the like.  As you can see in the picture below, there is only one piece of sausage left! His latest move involves throwing his arms up (like a gymnast completing their competition) once he’s climbed onto something, or if he is being a bit daring.  Kind of like, “hey, watch me!”. He’s also getting pretty good at stacking blocks or toys. DSC_0410 DSC_0408 DSC_0402 DSC_0386 DSC_0380 DSC_0383 DSC_0385

The rebuilding progress is moving along in the remodeling front. It’s nice to reach the point of putting things back together. As I look through these pictures I’m thankful for Kevin, his ability to do this project on his own, and the vision that he’s had for the first floor since we decided to make this house our home. He’s put a ridiculous number of hours of research into the flooring, the appliances, cabinets, subcontractors to use, and every small part of this project, which is really a huge undertaking. And it’s really exciting, actually, to see all of the conversations we’ve had over the last year or so become a reality!  It’s not really simple to live in a construction zone, and I’m not always very good at keeping my frustration concealed, but I’m super proud of my husband for putting his talents to such good use!

This week the drywall taping and mudding was completed, the kitchen area and the family room were painted (white for now – bye bye dark family room), and the carpet was removed from the family room. That only leaves carpet in the office (aka “kitchen”) for now. Lily was rather sad, as you can see, she was taking in any time she could on the remaining piece of carpet.  I think the dogs will enjoy the coolness of the wood floor, but they are definitely going to miss the carpet! We’re still in the process of figuring out what kinds of rugs and such we will have on the first floor. Brett will be installing the wood floor, along with Kevin and Jim, and they began on Thursday.  It is a tediously detailed task as the 5″ wide wood planks have slight variances in their width (which is standard we’ve learned) and makes the installation a slow and detailed process. But see for yourself, it is looking really nice! Kevin and I were also able to go look at options for counters and we have the design/layout of the cabinets for the kitchen pretty much finalized and are hoping to get them ordered this week.  Finn is a great “helper” as he often picks up a tool or tape, pieces of padding, a small piece of wood, etc., and offers it to me or Kevin as a way of helping.   0140627_093746DSC_0330 DSC_0333 DSC_0334 DSC_0339 DSC_0343 DSC_0336 DSC_0345 DSC_0346 DSC_0348 DSC_0350 DSC_0353 DSC_0362 DSC_0365 DSC_0418 DSC_0427 DSC_0433 DSC_0435 DSC_0437 DSC_0454We enjoyed some back yard water table time on Saturday and then played “fetch” with Lily. Which is actually more like trying to convince her to drop whatever she has.  She’s usually pretty good in giving it to Finn, me, not so much! And since last week, when Cameron had the growth on her back removed along with 7 teeth – she has much more pep in her step! Though she wasn’t outside with us here, she has been moving all around much better and going up and down the stairs without any coaxing these days.  It’s great to see her feeling a bit rejuvenated!

DSC_0283This week was rather a blur and I realized I didn’t really snap too many photos this week of Finn or the construction! Kevin, however, was in the backyard dribbling the soccer ball with Finn and got a cute video.

On Tuesday, Finn had his 15 month checkup and he is doing outstanding! He weighed in at 22 pounds, 9 ounces (47th percentile), 31″ tall (43rd percentile), and head circumference of 47.4 cm (67th percentile).  His motor skill development is great. He is able to walk, almost run, climb, pick up the tiniest speck of something with his pincer grasp. He says so many words, including Mama, Dada, dog dog, night night, more, nu nu (for naked baby!), book, dirty, no, walk, bite, paci (more like boppy), thank you, please, yes, and he makes the sounds of many animals when he sees them in books. Albeit not all of the words are enunciated perfectly, but he definitely says the same thing over and over, for instance when he wants to read a book (buh). And he continues to be a good sleeper, sleeping 10-11 hours at night and taking two naps (around 2 1/2 hours each) a day.

The garden is finally taking off a bit more. This week seeds of cantaloupe germinated and several of the other plants are getting much larger. I planted some free plants from work, including red romaine lettuce and curly endive as well as green beans. We’ve harvested the smallest handful of ripe baby strawberries, which Finn instantly devoured. Seems as though the blossoms on the butternut squash are aborting. It’s so weird, at first I was blaming bunnnies, but after looking closer at a couple of flowers that looked wilted they just fall right off.  Hmm, not sure what to make of that. In any case, looking forward to using some fresh veggies once our kitchen is complete!DSC_0258 DSC_0259 DSC_0257 DSC_0255Finn had another fun week with Debbie heading out to many adventures including the zoo and the splash park. It was a less noisy week of construction, but the house remains largely off limits on the first floor for little boys who pick up everything they see! photo (33) photo (34) photo (32) photo (31)Saturday evening we had a nice date night and kept things local by heading to downtown Powell to “Celebrate Powell”. It included many shops staying open late to celebrate the re-opening of Powell Rd at 315. We stumbled upon a new shop, Elm and Iron, which had a lovely antique truck serving beer and wine (from the Powell Village Winery) and cookies from Sweet Tooth Cottage (in Powell, where we got Finn’s birthday cookies). It is a home-decor shop that had an Open House. There was also a photographer there doing Tintype photographs, so we thought it would be fun to have ours taken. I learned that Kevin has always loved that type of photograph so he was very excited! You’ll see a photo of our photo below (sorry about the shadows). IMG_20140621_201339171_HDR IMG_20140621_201307949 IMG_20140621_201445174 IMG_20140621_201418209 IMG_20140621_202907166 20140624_220942

On Sunday we celebrated Dad’s birthday and Father’s day with a trip to Mansfield. You can see, the hosta’s are larger than Finn in some cases! Dad is changing over some hosta beds in their garden, so we are excited to be planting some of his named varieties as well as some other large clumps of hostas at the southern branch of HostaWorks in Powell. DSC_0269 DSC_0275 DSC_0291 DSC_0290 DSC_0287 DSC_0288 DSC_0292 DSC_0295 DSC_0297 On the remodeling front, this week was mostly drywall finishing – taping and mudding. Jim and Kevin installed a few more can lights in the kitchen ceiling, and the refrigerator now has the water line connected again for ice and water, which is great!  Most of the tile has been removed and only some small areas of the under-layment remains in the laundry room and close to the front staircase. After the tile had been removed from the eating area of the kitchen, Kevin discovered that the floor seemed a bit bowed. Brett came up again mid-week and after investigating they determined the floor was uneven because a joist was too high (bowed up). You can see in the pics below the blue string line which Brett cut down with a saw. Then we replaced the old plywood with new in that area. DSC_0233 DSC_0235 DSC_0239 DSC_0241 DSC_0243 DSC_0244 DSC_0245 DSC_0247

Finn still loves to cuddle in the morning and continues to be mesmerized by Sesame Street. We are weaning him off the bottle, but it’s really kind of cute, in the mornings when you go in after he is awake he says “ba ba” and if you ask him to (and sometimes without even prompting him) he will put his pacifier on the ledge of his crib. He isn’t really completely hooked on his pacifier other than when he sleeps, so we’ve been having him leave it in his room when he wakes up and then he gets it again at nap time. It’s working really well and he doesn’t even fuss when he puts it down!DSC_0261 DSC_0265 Have a good week!

DSC_0123Finn remains a happy go lucky boy these days, even with the house all torn up and most things out of place. Above he is grabbing the airplane pull chain on his ceiling fan – it’s a father-son tradition that they do together every day. These pictures were taken on Father’s Day, it was one of the few times this week I took any photos other than the progress of the construction. DSC_0113 DSC_0115 DSC_0135 DSC_0126 DSC_0140 DSC_0145 DSC_0149 DSC_0153 DSC_0160

We had a yummy brunch after church out on the patio at Matt the Miller. We had the best seat in the house and all without a reservation 🙂 Sunday evening Kevin, Jim, Finn, and I headed to the Columbus Clippers baseball game. It was a beautiful night – the place was packed! IMG_20140615_122152088 IMG_20140615_182104540 IMG_20140615_182530334 IMG_20140615_200557307 DSC_0164 DSC_0172Debbie took Finn and Sammy to a concert at the local amphitheater in Powell this week. The boys loved the music and danced throughout the concert! They even stopped at Jeni’s Ice Cream for a sweet treat afterward! Debbie has been a real trooper through this destruction and remodeling process. It certainly isn’t easy to be here with two very mobile boys when the place is a destruction zone! So they have enjoyed having picnic lunches at the park and visits to the zoo and pet store too. photo (29) photo (30) photo (28) photo (27)I’m not sure this is really considered a milestone, but Finn did have his first taste of peanut butter this week, in the form of a frozen Reese cup (Kevin’s favorite treat!). I was keeping Finn occupied in our room one evening and had a hankering for a snack, so I asked Kevin if he would bring up a frozen Reese Cup. As soon as Finn saw the package he said “mo mo”, which is funny considering he hadn’t had any yet! We decided to let him try it and he liked it, and even better that he didn’t seem to have any reaction to the peanut butter. It was actually a good thing that it was frozen as it made it easier for him to take a bite off and it didn’t melt in his hand as quickly!IMG_20140613_180829788 IMG_20140613_180850129In other fun Amy, Andy, and the kids came over on Saturday to check out our kitchen progress. We all headed to City BBQ for dinner and then to Graeter’s for ice cream afterward. Here are the cousins enjoying their treats. ice cream IMG_20140614_193520581The kitchen project continues and things are moving along nicely. This week Brett came up and helped install the drywall ceiling in the kitchen along with Kevin and Nik. They worked very late into the night, close to 2 am, to get it wrapped up. It looks really, really nice. The tile floor on the other hand is quite an undertaking to tear up. It seems the people who installed this original tile floor used Liquid Nail to secure the underlayment to the plywood sub floor. It is NOT an easy thing to get off. It is a tedious and time consuming project for the guys who are removing it. Kevin and his Dad set up our “temporary” kitchen, which includes the countertop with the sink and dishwasher that are fully plumbed and functional. We even have a working disposal and extra electrical outlet. Woohoo! And the range is functional also, though I’m not sure it will be getting much use. Sad, but true, we are regular carry-out folks these days. I think we are all tiring of the local options for food (at least I can say that I am!)DSC_0058 DSC_0061 DSC_0066 DSC_0074 DSC_0081 DSC_0086 DSC_0089 DSC_0091 DSC_0092 IMG_20140612_071538644 DSC_0093 DSC_0094 DSC_0096 DSC_0098 DSC_0107 DSC_0100 DSC_0103Our kitchen-ware has been moved to the office (aka the catch all for everything these days). We’ve set up a temporary microwave and have the essential dishware , silverware drawer, and Finn’s dry racks in there. DSC_0082 DSC_0083 In other news, I was fortunate to have my own private office created as a part of the office remodeling at Millcreek earlier this spring. My office is the former “server closet” that housed office supplies and the server and electronic equipment. The room was enlarged a bit and I got new office furniture and carpet.  And this week, I got a window! I now get a taste of the outdoors.  It is so nice to have natural light again! The project isn’t totally finished, but we are getting there.  Once the sanding and painting is complete I hope to do some decorating or at least hang some pictures on the wall!DSC_0068 DSC_0070 DSC_0072
