DSC_0241What a week of adventure I had with this little man! I was home this week from work and had such a lovely time with Finn. We headed out on many adventures, starting on Sunday with the Concert in Scioto Park. We joined Amy, Andy, and the kids for the Philip Fox Band show. It was a great night for a concert and the kiddos had lots of fun dancing and playing together. And the band was pretty good too! DSC_0007 DSC_0015 DSC_0019 DSC_0025 DSC_0035 DSC_0040 DSC_0041 DSC_0045 DSC_0051 DSC_0053 DSC_0057 DSC_0061 IMG_20140629_195229932 IMG_20140629_195235873Monday we met Amy and the kids at the Rec Center in Dublin, and as Graham had his swim lesson, the rest of us did a little swimming ourselves! Finn loved it and I was only sort of (ok a lot of) a helicopter mom in the water! He loved walking all around and going down the water slide. We also did several laps through the lazy river. He was pretty worn out and took an almost 4 hour nap in the afternoon! After that we went to the zoo, only to learn they closed earlier than I thought so we ended the night at the park and daddy joined us there. DSC_0065 DSC_0066 DSC_0080 DSC_0083 DSC_0092 DSC_0098 DSC_0101We joined Kevin toward the end of the World Cup soccer game on Tuesday. Finn had just awoken from a nap, and with the screaming and cheering he was a bit scared and cried the first few times, but by the end of the night he was clapping along 🙂IMG_20140701_182333006We’ve had some late nights, which means sleep in and lazy mornings.  It’s going to be rough getting up so early to go back to work this week! But on the bright side, our summer office hours are now until 4 pm, so I’ll be getting home earlier! Every morning Finn loves to read several “buhh’s”. This particular morning I think we read Every Friday about 5 times in a row!20140702_082709Since Finn likes being outdoors and touching plants, I figured it would be fun to head to the Franklin Park Conservatory. We made an evening adventure there in hopes of making it for the butterfly release, but we arrived after that. We actually didn’t see too many butterflies, probably less than 10! But we had fun walking all around, watching glass blowing, and checking out the large “balls” in the gardens. DSC_0121 DSC_0124 DSC_0130 DSC_0136 DSC_0141 DSC_0146 DSC_0151 DSC_0156 DSC_0166 DSC_0168 DSC_0174 DSC_0186This year we headed down to Red, White, and Boom on Thursday to watch the bands on Bicentennial Stage. Holywell, a band of which some of the members are from our church, had a slot in the afternoon and we enjoyed hearing them play. We were able to stay from mid-afternoon until the fireworks, with a little nap in the car for Finn at one point.  It was actually pretty breezy and rather chilly this year, definitely glad we took our jackets! The overhead airplanes and helicopters were a big hit too – check out how much Finn is looking upward in the photos below! Just before the fireworks began Kevin took Finn to get a flashing scepter, which he thought was great. We enjoyed about 15 minutes of the fireworks prior to heading out before the end to beat the mad traffic. DSC_0191 DSC_0196 DSC_0203 DSC_0211 DSC_0212 DSC_0213 DSC_0217 IMG_20140703_200314428 DSC_0222 DSC_0234 DSC_0237 DSC_0250 IMG_20140703_213551077 DSC_0254 DSC_0255 IMG_20140703_214118116 DSC_0270 DSC_0280We think Finn may not be far from getting more teeth as has become a slobber box and is chewing on his fingers alot. I’ve looked all around in there and I can’t feel anything!  He is also really attached to his bottled. The pediatrician recommended getting him off the bottle, which we’ve attempted, but he won’t drink milk (in any quantity) from a sippy cup. He takes a few sips and that’s it. Then he says “wa wa”.  However, if you give him a bottle, he will down 6 or 7 ounces in one sitting.  Can’t seem to figure that one out, so for now, he’s still getting his way with the bottle (and donuts to celebrate the 4th!). IMG_20140704_093850380We all headed to the Zoo on the 4th for a short stroll through the new Heart of Africa. We saw the cheetah’s and several giraffe’s up close! We saw even more fireworks as we headed over to the Mehta’s and then onward to the Dublin Fireworks. We made it just in time and had a pretty good view!DSC_0308 DSC_0293 DSC_0298 DSC_0304 DSC_0305 DSC_0307IMG_20140704_221147112Saturday we made a surprise visit to Bama and Beepa’s house to check in on their Hosta Sale. We enjoyed a nice afternoon chatting and hanging out outside and then went to dinner.  I forgot to take any photos of the “hosta sale” area before they tore everything down, so we did a quick selfie or two instead. DSC_0324 DSC_0321This week on the remodeling project: flooring. And more flooring! Most of the kitchen area is finished, as well as the hall to the garage/laundry, and the laundry room. Kevin also started putting up the wainscoting in the laundry room too. We’ve also ordered the kitchen cabinets and drawers – so we’re looking at about 2 weeks or so until they arrive. DSC_0114 DSC_0120 DSC_0317 DSC_0313 DSC_0309 DSC_0310 DSC_0311

Finn ~ 48 weeks

DSC_0485We all returned from vacation with a little something. In Finn’s case it was another tooth! He is now up to 6 and this most recent one, the front right, is coming in pretty fast. Look at those teeth! Kevin and I were a bit less fortunate and came back with a sinus/cold/chest kind of illness. It’s not really much fun.

Finn did great for a majority of the trip, despite the lack of schedule and on many days lack of sleep! Traveling to and from everywhere takes some time and he isn’t really interested in napping if he can watch people and his surroundings instead. He made a ton of friends on the cruise ship since there weren’t a lot of young infants on board. Most places we went everyone just smiled at him and commented on his beautiful blue eyes. It was fun to sit down with family and friends each night for dinner. A couple of the evenings were a bit tough as we had the 8:30 seating. Finn and I left mid-dinner twice as he became a bit loud and fussy and was in need of his bed!  Kevin stayed for the remainder of dinner and was sweet and thoughtful each night – he brought a latte and dessert back to our room. Yum! Dessert and a latte in bed, that’s not a bad way to vacation 🙂

On Sunday, we arrived in Key West about 6:30 a.m.  Somehow I was awake, which was nice as I was able to watch us arrive in the port.  Once Finn and Kevin were awake we were getting ready to head down for our first breakfast onboard and the power on the entire ship went out! Uh oh! It was out for about an hour so they continued to put out food that didn’t require cooking, but other than that it was limited to whatever they had when the power went out. The worst part, for me, was they ran out of coffee! But it wasn’t long before everything was back up and running and we all enjoyed a nice breakfast.

Once we returned to our room we realized the water had a brownish cast to it. After running the shower for about 10 minutes it cleared up – thankfully – as it was time to get ready for the wedding! Yay! We were off the ship by 10:30 am and we all walked up the hill and made our way to a trolley that took us to Smather’s Beach where Brett and Missy would be married. I don’t have any photos during the wedding, as DSLR camera’s weren’t allowed since the wedding was conducted by a photography company. But I was able to get some before and afters. It was a hot and sunny day and there were lots of family and friends there to celebrate their marriage. Afterwards everyone was treated to a lovely lunch at the Conch Republic in Key West. Jim welcomed Missy to the Armstrong Family by presenting her with an Armstrong sash that was fastened with the Armstrong Clan pin. Both Kevin and Erika toasted to the newlyweds during the casual afternoon reception where we were all mingled together. We had a little bit of time at the end of the afternoon so Grandma and Grandpa took Finn back on the ship and Brett, Missy, Kevin, and I walked around Duval Street in Key West and had a drink at Sloppy Joe’s. Missy wore her Armstrong sash all afternoon and it  was cute to see everyone congratulate them on getting married – one gentlemen asked to have his picture taken with them!IMG_20140209_065750818_HDR DSC_1452 DSC_1457 DSC_1459 DSC_1462 DSC_1464 DSC_1469 DSC_1472 DSC_1474 DSC_1500 DSC_1476 DSC_1479 DSC_1484 DSC_1487 DSC_1489 DSC_1494 DSC_1497 DSC_1504 DSC_1510 DSC_1524 DSC_1528 DSC_1531 DSC_1535 DSC_1537 DSC_1545 DSC_1549 DSC_1552 DSC_1553 DSC_1560 DSC_1556 DSC_1566 DSC_1569 DSC_1572 DSC_1575 CSC_1795 DSC_1596 DSC_1598 DSC_1602 DSC_1610 DSC_1611 DSC_1615 DSC_1720 DSC_1713 DSC_1620 DSC_1617 DSC_1622 DSC_1625 DSC_1633 DSC_1634 DSC_1635 DSC_1639 DSC_1641 DSC_1642 DSC_1643 DSC_1644 DSC_1646 DSC_1659 DSC_1676 DSC_1677 DSC_1679 DSC_1681 DSC_1662 DSC_1685 DSC_1686 DSC_1709 DSC_1696 DSC_1702 DSC_1714 DSC_1730DSC_1776 DSC_1731 DSC_1736 DSC_1739 DSC_1733 DSC_1740 DSC_1746 DSC_1712 DSC_1725 DSC_1745 DSC_1759 DSC_1750 DSC_1765 DSC_1768 DSC_1769 DSC_1773

Each evening we watched the sunset together on our balcony (when the sun was on the correct side that is!). Most days at sea were lazy and casual days on the ship which allowed Finn to get some much needed sleep. Everyone enjoyed the sun (or shade), beverages (mine were the specialty coffee drinks!), and food (so much food!). And we enjoyed many good dinners, served by Joquin and Olga – they were wonderful!DSC_1782 DSC_1785 DSC_1787 DSC_1800 DSC_1803 DSC_1807 DSC_1812 DSC_1813 DSC_1816 DSC_1817 DSC_1822 DSC_1823 DSC_1833 DSC_1839 DSC_1845 DSC_1848 DSC_1851 DSC_1867 DSC_1873 DSC_1882 DSC_1776

On our day in Cozumel we disembarked and began walking to a nearby beach. Within a short distance a cabbie stopped and talked to us and offered to be our cabbie for the afternoon, so we obliged! He took us to Paradise beach where we spent a couple of hours and played in the water. Then we headed to the Mayan Ruins for a brief visit, followed by a driving tour of the downtown area of Cozumel. He explained alot about their culture and the landmarks as we drove around. It was a nice, and long, day! DSC_1898 DSC_1915 DSC_1917 DSC_1923 DSC_1926 DSC_1941 DSC_1946 DSC_1948 DSC_1951 DSC_1952 DSC_1957 DSC_1960 DSC_1964 DSC_1971 DSC_1978 DSC_1989 DSC_2000 DSC_2009 DSC_2013 DSC_2020 DSC_2030 DSC_2037 DSC_2038 DSC_2039 DSC_2042 DSC_2046 DSC_2047 DSC_2053 DSC_2055 DSC_2095 DSC_2101 DSC_2102 DSC_2056 DSC_2058 DSC_2061 DSC_2065 DSC_2070 DSC_2073 DSC_2082 DSC_2085 DSC_2088 DSC_2091 DSC_2092 DSC_2099 DSC_2107 DSC_2113 DSC_2122 DSC_2124 DSC_2128 DSC_2131 DSC_2134 DSC_2136 DSC_2137 DSC_2163 DSC_2179 DSC_2188 DSC_2202 DSC_2205 DSC_2218 DSC_2226 DSC_2229 DSC_0006 DSC_0010 DSC_0019 DSC_0030 DSC_0038 DSC_0049 DSC_0059 DSC_0061 DSC_0068 DSC_0084 DSC_0093 DSC_0095 DSC_0105 DSC_0110 DSC_0113 DSC_0122 DSC_0127 DSC_0135 DSC_0147 DSC_0161 DSC_0168 DSC_0171 DSC_0176 DSC_0184 DSC_0197 DSC_0206 DSC_0211 DSC_0213 DSC_0214 DSC_0228 DSC_0235

Playing on the beach in Cozumel!

After the cruise we spent a few nights in Duck Key, Florida which is about halfway to Key West. We stayed in a condo that was part of resort which had several pools and hot tubs and a even a saltwater lagoon and dolphin area. While we didn’t swim with the dolphins we were able to see them and snap some photos. We drove to Key West one afternoon where we had very tasty Cuban Sandwiches at the local restaurant Paseo. Finn enjoyed watching all of the birds roam around while we ate. We ended the night listening to live music and watching the sun set. On our final day in the condo, fin was loving having the freedom of roaming around a larger area. You’ll see him using a chair as a tool to get himself around the first floor.  It’s pretty cool to watch. He knows when he gets stuck to go to another side and push a different direction! On our last day we spent several hours at the lagoon where Kevin and I got a bit too much sunbefore returning home.  And now that we’re back, we’re ready for another vacation 😉  Enjoy!DSC_0279 DSC_0298 DSC_0288 DSC_0291 DSC_0313 DSC_0326 DSC_0353DSC_0334 DSC_0358 IMG_20140214_203334971 DSC_0371 DSC_0373 DSC_0374 DSC_0376 DSC_0379 DSC_0386 DSC_0382 DSC_0391 DSC_0401 DSC_0404 DSC_0407 DSC_0408 DSC_0415 DSC_0418 DSC_0419 DSC_0422 DSC_0429 DSC_0437 DSC_0458 DSC_0460 DSC_0468 DSC_0470 DSC_0479 DSC_0483 DSC_0485 DSC_0488 DSC_0490 DSC_0493 IMG_20140215_113413709 20140215_123019 20140215_132252 IMG_20140215_153454521 IMG_20140215_153514228 IMG_20140215_153528458 IMG_20140215_153956955 DSC_0499 DSC_0504 DSC_0508 DSC_0509 DSC_0521 DSC_0537 DSC_0544 DSC_0553 DSC_0556 DSC_0558 DSC_0562 DSC_0573 DSC_0578 DSC_0583 DSC_0592 DSC_0637 DSC_0648 DSC_0655 DSC_0667 DSC_0682 DSC_0690 DSC_0698 DSC_0703 _20140215_154104

Finn ~ 47 weeks

47_weeksHere he is, our smiling, up for anything, traveling boy! He is such a happy boy, and definitely a cuddler. He’s begun to act shy in new situations or if someone less familiar talks to him, he kind of smirks or smiles and then curls in for a good cuddle tucking his arms under his belly.  It’s pretty darn cute and warms my heart.

With every day Finn is showing more interest and ability to communicate about what he wants to do, to eat, to go, where something is, etc. It is really amazing to watch him make decisions and to communicate his preferences.  For instance, we will ask if he would like his bottle or a yogurt, and he will point to which he would like. Or the dogs will be around us and we will ask him “where are your dog dogs?” and he will look to find them and then point.

This week we were pretty busy getting ready for our vacation to Florida for Brett & Missy’s wedding. So busy, that I ended up packing my things the morning we were leaving! So I put Finn on the floor with Lily and they played together while I packed. Here he is all cozy in his fleece pajamas as it’s super cold outside. Here is the view out our front door!IMG_20140204_222538231 IMG_20140207_093338098 IMG_20140207_093345032

It’s crazy the amount of baggage we had to haul around for our trip! We each had a suitcase, we also took a pack and play for Finn to sleep in, the stroller, and we decided to travel with the car seat. So, once we piled all of our things into the van we were on our way to the airport. Jim, Pat, Brett, Missy, Kevin, Finn, and myself were all on the same flight which meant we had some nice time to hang out together in the airport. Finn had some pizza and water from Grandma and Grandpa and he got to ride on the suitcase too. We decided to put Finn in his own seat, and we brought along his car seat and base. We were really glad we did. Our little man was awake from the time we left for the airport until we began taxiing to take off. You’ll see he was pretty tired at the end of our wait at the gate. But that made a super easy flight to Fort Lauderdale! He fell asleep before we were even off the ground and slept for an hour. That’s a pretty typical first nap for him. He was awake for an hour, and then dozed off again for the last 30 minutes. Just before we landed he woke up so we got him out of his seat so he could watch out the window. He did great on his first airplane ride!DSC_1192 DSC_1198 DSC_1202 DSC_1204 DSC_1209 DSC_1214 DSC_1218 DSC_1229 IMG_20140207_150538932 DSC_1236 IMG_20140207_171727579_HDR IMG_20140207_171811279 IMG_20140207_171815518 IMG_20140207_171817950 IMG_20140207_172040343_HDR

Once we landed and gathered all of our baggage (see below!) we made our way to the hotel for the evening and got settled in. Then Finn met his uncle Todd for the first time and after a bit of hanging out, Jim, Pat, Todd, Finn, Kevin, and myself headed out to dinner together. It was within walking distance from out hotel and it was nice to get out and enjoy the warm weather! Finn loves to eat whatever he sees someone else is eating, and of late, his favorite is french fries. DSC_1239 DSC_1246 DSC_1247 DSC_1258 DSC_1263 DSC_1265 DSC_1273 DSC_1274 DSC_1282 DSC_1286The following morning we got on a shuttle that took us to the port for the cruise. I was pretty impressed with the whole cruise check-in process.  Considering we had Finn in a stroller, some carry along bags we were bringing with us too and everything had to go through scanning at security it all went really smooth. Then we checked in with the Celebrity Cruise Line and made our way to our ship, the Constellation. Everything went off without a hitch and Finn took it all in. This was our first cruise, so we weren’t really sure what to expect, but it was great! As soon as we boarded we were given champagne, which we kindly accepted, and then made our way to get settled in our room. Our room was in a wonderful location, the 8th floor, very close to the library where we let Finn roam around freely on occasion. We had a lovely stateroom with a balcony. Keep in mind these past two days Finn hasn’t had much of a nap schedule since we were traveling to and from so many places. He just isn’t interested in sleeping if he’s in a room with activity.  So by the end of Saturday he was getting pretty sassy and in need of a good sleep! Here he is getting in a quick nap before we got on the shuttle to the ship. DSC_1287 IMG_20140208_123322806 DSC_1291 IMG_20140208_132022301 DSC_1294 DSC_1296 DSC_1299 DSC_1306 DSC_1310 DSC_1314 DSC_1341 DSC_1344 DSC_1350 DSC_1353 DSC_1352 DSC_1354 DSC_1356Once everyone was settled in we met up on the pool deck, level 10. We established a common meeting place where we could meet up with everyone at your own leisure. Finn was pretty tired at this point, but he loved being able to see everyone and roam from person to person – often receiving a french fry or two!  DSC_1357 DSC_1360 DSC_1373 DSC_1377

Just as we were leaving the port we decided to roam around the ship and get our bearings. Then we headed to our room and watched the first sunset on our balcony as we departed Fort Lauderdale.  DSC_1388 DSC_1398 DSC_1386 DSC_1402 DSC_1442 DSC_1419 DSC_1407 DSC_1409 DSC_1418 DSC_1426 DSC_1448

More to come next week!
