DSC_0037Finn is growing so fast and learning so many new things with each day. It brings a smile to my face, and also a tear to my eye, as our little baby is rapidly becoming a toddler.  Toward the end of last week he learned how to climb. Granted, he has climbed up onto the fireplace hearth for awhile, but now he is climbing on boxes and chairs and the couch! He loves to stand up tall on a free-standing object and look towards us with the cutest expression that says “look at me, I did it!”.  He’s got some pretty strong leg muscles – just look at that pull up!DSC_1019 DSC_1020 DSC_1022 DSC_1025 DSC_1034 DSC_1041 DSC_0021 DSC_0023 DSC_0025 DSC_0030 DSC_0040 DSC_0043 DSC_0044

He also loves to dance.  He raises his arms or shakes his shoulders if he’s sitting down.  But his newest moves involved stomping his feet – which I sort of captured, albeit with quite fuzzy photos, below. I think my photo “skills” are worsening!DSC_0987 DSC_0988 DSC_0989

He babbles so much and says a lot of words. He definitely knows what he is trying to say, but sometimes I have a bit of trouble understanding his words. He is excellent at repeating and mocking – especially the inflection in our voices. Or if he hears us cough or sneeze, he will imitate. And when he sees an animal in a book or at the zoo – he makes the a growling noise or a barking noise. So cute.  Playing hide and seek (aka “boo”) is also a pretty fun game for him. And he loves to be tickled, oftentimes saying “mo, mo, mo” when you stop. And he’s really enjoying having “pa pa” here often heading to the door in the family room to find him on the porch!DSC_1013 DSC_1001 DSC_1097 DSC_1098

We emptied most of the kitchen cabinets on Saturday so we are living out of a crate on the kitchen table as well as a stack of glasses and coffee mugs on a towel that sits on the kitchen table.  I kept out several coffee mugs, one of which has three labradors on it (thanks, mom and dad!) and Finn loved it.  And he loved the dogs on the inside of the mug too. This morning he kept wanting to touch the mug, as it was warm, and then he would point to each of the dogs. Such an animal lover he is.

I must say, for being a plant person and a perennial grower I am less than pleased with how the veggies are growing!! The seeds I planted are doing the best (zucchini, snap peas, and watermelon). A few of the cantaloupe have withered away and the cucumbers seem to just be stuck!  The tomatoes and peppers look like they’ve grown ever so slightly and the basil, cilantro, and chives are doing pretty well. I think I’ll fertilize a bit more to push things along. I was just expecting everything to grow like crazy as the starter plants were so big and nice. Guess it will take me a season to get our system down!

Saturday evening Finn and I headed to Mansfield to surprise Dad for a belated birthday visit. We found him in the backyard collecting hosta leaves for the upcoming convention! So after a short walk around the yard and over the bridge we headed out to dinner together. Finn loves watering the plants (“wa wa” he calls it) so he helped grandpa water some seedlings and we had to convince him to leave the watering wands behind. He begrudgingly agreed. IMG_20140607_181219140 IMG_20140607_181250043 IMG_20140607_181518577

Sunday the boy cuzzies had some fun on the counter at church 🙂 Uncle KK did his best to wear out G & R for naptime by chasing them all through the halls and classrooms! IMG_20140608_113538932

On the remodeling front Kevin and his dad have made lots and lots of progress this week! And Brett and Missy joined in the fun on Friday as Brett helped determine if we would be able to remove the short wall in the kitchen that had the doors leading to the foyer. Initially the answer was, probably not, but then they determined it could be removed – and down it came! Yay! Kevin and Jim continued the demolition process, removing the wall behind the stove (you can watch the video below!), removing the soffit on the ceiling above the stove and above the jutting counter of the kitchen. The “corner” cabinet in the eating area was also removed. The drywall was finished in the pantry and storage closet as well as the ceiling of the new kitchen. And we now have 76 boxes of wood flooring in our front dining room. Thankfully the floor installers carried it all inside (shoo….as each box weighed 81 pounds!). And they were fast – each guy carried a single box – they didn’t even spread the load! They also removed the kitchen cabinets on Saturday and we were able to re purpose a couple of them above the laundry room sink. Eventually they will be painted white to match the others. Finn loves to help and see what all the noise is about. The orange level still seems to be his favorite toy.  Somehow he has been sleeping amazingly well during all of the construction and demolition – which is essentially directly below his room in some cases!

DSC_0548Get ready for photo overload! It will come as no surprise that I had a wee bit of trouble narrowing down the photos this week, which means there will be many for you to see!

Last year when Finn was about 10 or 11 weeks old we went to the Powell Memorial Day Parade. It was cold and raining. This year was a completely different story! It was sunny and 80 degrees! There were so many people there and we even ran into our friends, the Eilermans! Many people brought their dogs and Finn loved being able to pet a few of them (and a pony in the parade – see below!). We headed to Rita’s Italian Ice in Powell for a sweet treat to top off the morning.  In the afternoon we headed to the Mihocik/Kessler Memorial Day cookout. We had a fun time and Finn loved having free reign and wandering about amongst so many other kids. DSC_0529 DSC_0537 DSC_0539 DSC_0556 DSC_0554 DSC_0562 DSC_0566 DSC_0572 DSC_0575 DSC_0579 DSC_0582 DSC_0589 DSC_0596 DSC_0608 DSC_0619 DSC_0622 DSC_0624 DSC_0625 DSC_0627 DSC_0631 DSC_0640 DSC_0647 DSC_0653 DSC_0661We are loving (me especially!) having a garden right off the edge of the patio. Finn is such an outdoors little guy. He LOVES to go outside to check on the plants and help me water them (and the indoor plants too). In fact, he oftentimes picks up the watering can and pretends to water the houseplants. He does that pretty much everyday! And outside he keeps himself occupied by stacking the empty pots. He loves to dig in the dirt and also loves that Lily is out and about on the patio and in the yard. He says “yilly yilly yilly” to get her to come back over to him. It’s the cutest thing, really. DSC_0718 DSC_0716 DSC_0713 DSC_0708 DSC_0642

Amy and I had been tossing around the idea of going Strawberry picking with the kids. I found Mitchell’s Berries in Plain City, literally just barely outside Dublin, so we gave it a try on Friday morning. Finn and Greta picked some berries and helped themselves to plenty of samples during our adventure. And Graham and Rowan had a good time too – RoRo was my little shadow, coming up to me and saying “whatcha doing Iggy”, “can I help Iggy”, and of course wanting a taste of my lemon-water (“what’s that Iggy”). It was a fun morning and perfect weather! Sarah, Audrey, Samantha, and Mary Lou joined us too. DSC_0762 DSC_0749 DSC_0753 DSC_0763 DSC_0736 DSC_0733 DSC_0769 DSC_0771 DSC_0772 DSC_0780 DSC_0786 DSC_0793 DSC_0799 DSC_0803 DSC_0804 DSC_0810 DSC_0813 DSC_0817 DSC_0820 DSC_0827 DSC_0831It was the Memorial Tournament week this week too which is always a fun time. Friday night we had a slumber party here with Debbie and Sammy as Debbie was so kind as to stay at our house to watch Finn so we could go out in the evening. However, the plan changed throughout the day so Debbie and I headed to the Tournament in the late afternoon with Finn and Sammy while Kevin and his dad did some major demolition to the former dining room! They were on a tight schedule to get things ready for the dry-wall people to close-up phase one of the new kitchen. We had a lovely stroll around the golf course and then came home and the boys had some dinner followed by a bit of fun with bath time! And Saturday morning Finn was pretty excited to see Debbie and Sammy and be able to play for a short while before they had to leave. photo (21) photo (22) DSC_0842 DSC_0852 DSC_0867 DSC_0871 DSC_0914 DSC_0923And Sunday afternoon Finn spent a few hours with Cameron while we were at the Tournament. He really adjusts well to staying with anyone and was totally good with us leaving after the initial shock of major kisses compliments of Clarence, the Howard’s dog! IMG_20140601_181552777 IMG_20140601_182337492For the first time I witnessed Finn actually climb something other than the stairs. Here he is, looking all proud and yet also checking in to see if he should be doing what he is doing! We put this box near his playpen so I would remember to take it to work and sure enough he found it and hopped right on top!DSC_0941And a few other shots from the week, here Finn is dancing and snacking while on a recent trip to the mall. And Finn and Sammy are checking out the monkeys and lions at the zoo!IMG_20140531_155811993photo (24) photo (23)An update on the remodeling progress.  Kevin and Jim have made a ton of progress. They demolished the tray ceiling in the former dining room and Jim did tons of electrical wiring in the ceiling of the new kitchen as well as wiring for all of the appliances. Jim also re-wired the Radon pump on the exterior side of our house so the electrical line wasn’t running on the outside for half the length of the side our house. Plumbers were here to rough in the plumbing for the kitchen sink and the gas line for the range.  The drywallers came and hung the ceiling in the new kitchen and the small walk-in utility room. They also finished the walk-in pantry. DSC_0890 DSC_0888 DSC_0928 DSC_0929 DSC_0663 DSC_0664 DSC_0665 DSC_0887 DSC_0949 DSC_0950 DSC_0954 DSC_0948 DSC_0945DSC_0692 DSC_0694

photo (15)-2I’m not sure why, but I always seem to post on Sunday, but I’ve always labeled the post the previous day, Saturday’s date. It’s bothering me, so I figured I would point that out in case of you who may read this wander if I never know the date! But here we are again!

Finn had quite a fun week. Last Sunday we headed to the softball field to watch daddy play in his church league game in the afternoon. Finn loved having free reign and playing with extra softballs that were lying around. But most of all, he loved saying “da da” and walking up to daddy to be picked up!IMG_20140518_134331498_HDR-2 IMG_20140518_134346290_HDR-2

Debbie, Finn, and Sammy headed to the park, library story hour, and the zoo this week. And they painted some lovely octopus art! These pictures are one’s she took throughout the week. It is so nice to see what he is up to while I’m at work, I really love it! Finn has been sleeping really well lately as in taking long naps and getting up a bit later than normal in the morning. He also has quite the appetite, so we think he’s going through a growth spurt!photo (12)-2 photo (13)-2 photo (14)-2 photo (16)-2 photo (17)-2 photo (18)-2 photo (19)-2 photo (20)-2

Friday Kevin’s mom watched Griffin during the day and that night Kevin and I enjoyed date night at a the Columbus Clippers game. It was a perfect night for a ballgame – the weather was beautiful and City BBQ had $2 pulled pork sandwiches, yum!! Cyd came over to watch Finn in the evening – they had a fun night together 🙂

On Saturday we had quite the workday – this time with outdoor projects! We wanted to finish up the outdoor beds so we can get the fruits and veggies started. We called Jones Topsoil, and in under an hour had 4 yards of pulverized topsoil/compost piled high in our driveway. After lunch Finn played with his new water table in the screened porch. He was a soaking wet mess, but kept himself entertained for 45 minutes! Luckily Finn took two long naps and we spent that time outside, Kevin stapled the landscape fabric to the inside of the beds and then we began filling them with soil. You’d be surprised how much soil fits into those things! We were able to fill them up and get them ready to plant and then we called it a night. Kevin headed to the Crew game and after Finn woke up from his second nap we had a momma and son night at City BBQ followed by ice cream at Graeter’s.  Yummy!  As I mentioned earlier, Finn has been eating super well – he enjoyed beef brisket, mac and cheese, and corn pudding.  He also loves drinking cold water (with ice) out of a straw. By the time ice cream rolled around he was pretty tired and not super interested, but he had a few bites of cookies & cream and blackberry chip! DSC_0375 DSC_0380DSC_0383DSC_0387 IMG_20140524_195317699_HDR-2 IMG_20140524_192424194-2 IMG_20140524_201753999_HDR-2 IMG_20140524_204627247-2

Sunday was a fun-filled day for all of us! Finn loves having the dogs around all the time. And lately he’s really taking to sleeping with his stuffed doggie too. Cameron stays on the first floor much of the day, while Lily is pretty much my shadow and follows us everywhere. She loves to go in with me to get Finn in the mornings and he just babbles the word doggie nonstop til you put him down next to her so he can give her some love. Today they were particularly cute together 🙂 IMG_20140525_092449333-2 IMG_20140525_092900925-2 IMG_20140525_092956782-2IMG_20140525_093128328-2After church, Finn and daddy tag-teamed a hair cut at Sport Clips. Finn did so well, he sat there like a champ and just looked around and observed everything and smiled at his daddy, who was right next door in the next chair. She even used the clippers to do around his ears and he was totally fine with it!IMG_20140525_122316383-2 IMG_20140525_122946114-2 IMG_20140525_123135655-2 IMG_20140525_123434203-2 IMG_20140525_123841686_HDR-2

Sunday afternoon we celebrated Graham’s 4th birthday with a cookout at Amy and Andy’s. It was a pleasant afternoon filled with lots of boisterous youngsters running around a playing. Andy’s parents were visiting from Canada as well so it was nice to be able to visit with them for a short while. DSC_0414 DSC_0423 DSC_0426 DSC_0436 DSC_0451 DSC_0431 DSC_0453 DSC_0455 DSC_0458 DSC_0462 DSC_0464 DSC_0476 DSC_0479 DSC_0481 DSC_0490 DSC_0493 DSC_0504 DSC_0506 DSC_0507 DSC_0514 DSC_0520 DSC_0523

On the remodeling front, Kevin continued to make a lot of progress this week. On Tuesday, he along with his dad, Brett, Chris, and Chad installed a 250# steel i-beam in the basement ceiling to correct the first floor. It was sinking or sagging near the doorway between the dining and living rooms. You could really tell when you walked in that area that it was lower, you could actually feel it on the second story too in the hallway/door area to Finn’s room. Pretty impressive job, eh?  An HVAC company was here to move some air conditioning duct work from a wall that is going to be removed and also moving air conditioning condensor outside from the patio area of the backyard to the side of the house. It is now so quite – it was a genius idea by Kevin! Plus now we have more gardening space 😉  Kevin’s dad also worked on some electrical in the walk in pantry and installing can lights and moving the light fixture into the “new” dining room area. On Friday Kevin began putting up drywall in the walk in pantry, but then we switched to the outdoor garden projects for the weekend! Most of the other work involved demolition, including removing all of the carpet in the living and dining rooms. Things are coming along – any and all are welcome to come see our progress any time!  Thanks to Brett for your continued help and Kevin’s dad for coming and staying and working with Kevin for a large part of the week.  DSC_0341 DSC_0342 DSC_0295 DSC_0285 DSC_0294 DSC_0291 DSC_0292
