DSC_0964It was a big week in the Armstrong house  – our growing boy is now facing forward in his carseat! We decided a couple weeks back that on Finn’s 20 month birthday (which also fell on our 2nd wedding anniversary) we would turn Finn around in the car. He has been ready for quite awhile with his legs bending while he’s in his seat. Our car seat requires them to face backwards until at least 22 pounds, which was long ago, as he currently weights 25.5! He is really enjoying facing forward, and don’t worry – he wasn’t fully strapped in yet in the photo above 🙂 . Of course, there is a better view of Elmo on the TV and he can see the ‘tucks’ much better. The second photo here makes me chuckle – it is Finn being silly and squinting while he is playing games with his eyes. He’s so funny. Anytime I say “close your eyes” he makes this type of exaggerated squinting face. DSC_0964-2 DSC_0966

We started our week with lots of sleep followed by another round of making chocolate chip cookies. This might explain why the scale is going in the wrong direction for me!! Finn’s bed is filling up with soft things these days – every night he goes to bed with fishy, doggie, blanket and his paci (which he holds in his hand). But lately we’ve added even more: scoopy (his blanket with a doggie head that we took everywhere in his carseat when he was a baby), yaya (elephant), and the latest is duck (his new plushy from our trip). And look at Mr. Cookie Monster himself, complete with the Cookie cup, socks, and freshly made chocolate chip cookie in hand (and lots of flour on the chair and floor!).

We stayed in a small cabin in the same area we were in last year and enjoyed a couple days of a very loungy, slow-pace, with naps for everyone! We are so lucky that Finn sleeps well no matter where we are. We arrived around 11 pm and shortly after we had his bed setup and he went right to sleep in a new and unfamiliar place.  He slept like a rock every night and took a 2 hour nap everyday! We also went on a few adventures: The Dixie Stampede which is a dinner attraction, featuring horses, that had a Christmas theme. We went last year and Finn was mesmerized by the horses – and this year he was as well. He sat on my lap the entire time (1.5 hours) and ate plenty of dinner. This year we also checked out Dollywood where we met several characters including Rudolph, A Snowman, Santa and Mrs. Claus, we played in a Snow Globe, and we road a genuine coal Choo Choo train (Finn says it was “loud”, as he covers his ears when you ask him about it). It was a chilly day, but the sun was out which felt great. DSC_077820141113_173255-220141113_175613-220141113_175711-220141113_194141-220141113_194240-220141113_194521-2 20141113_195506-2 DSC_0783 DSC_0934 DSC_0789 DSC_0800 DSC_0809 DSC_0812 DSC_0792 IMG_20141115_135056 DSC_0816 DSC_0828 DSC_0833 DSC_0834 DSC_0838 DSC_0847 DSC_0852 DSC_0860 DSC_0871 DSC_0874 This one cracks me up, I showed Finn a picture that he blinked in, so we re-took our selfie – where he re-enacted his “closed eyes”. DSC_0876 DSC_0880 DSC_0886He really enjoyed the candy cane treat that he received after he gave his wish list to Santa. DSC_0889 DSC_0891 DSC_0892 We created a little reindeer keepsake that we got framed – it turned out really cute. We did a take-2 on his hand, as he was a bit too quick with the first one.  He loves to “peet” (aka paint). DSC_0896 DSC_0897 DSC_0898 Finn hadn’t had a nap all day, and of course, just before the parade began he fell asleep in his stroller. He was really warm and cozy in his new winter coat from the Bethune’s!DSC_0900 DSC_0906 DSC_0901 DSC_0903 DSC_0905 DSC_0909 DSC_0911 DSC_0929DSC_0912 DSC_0919 DSC_0921 DSC_0928 DSC_0930 DSC_0933And here are our photo op pictures – most of them turned out really well.  Full disclosure, we woke Finn up about 1 minute before he met Rudolph and there is a slight glare on the snow-globe but we thought it would be a fun image to have so we got it anyway. He was a bit scared of the giant snowman as he clung to my arm and hips as we got closer to him. Kevin and I asked him if he wanted to pet the nice snowman and he kept saying “no pet now, no pet now, no pet now” while shaking his head no. He is definitely beginning to show some timidness in situations he is unsure of. We watched a 50 minute show based on Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol at Dollywood and there were holographic images, one of which was rather scary and he tightened up and was a bit shaky for a quick minute. But he was such a good boy and sat through the entire show paying attention the entire time!DSC_0004 DSC_0009 DSC_0010 DSC_0013 DSC_0002 DSC_0019 DSC_0016 DSC_0021 DSC_0024

On our Anniversary we went to the Lumberjack Feud, another dinner attraction, this one featuring dinner in a box (featured below, lol), lumberjack competitions and labrador retrievers competing in various events. We were in the first row but even so it was pretty hard to get any “good” photos of the dogs as they were so quick! It was amazing to watch them jump 5-6′ into the air to bite the buoy and then land below in the water. They also walked on moving logs in the water – it was really neat! And of course the lumber jack competitions, which feature some real-life lumberjacks that compete on ESPN and such! The last image is Finn with our “Dawson Family” team and the “cookie” that he was given by one of the Lumberjacks. IMG_20141116_201851499IMG_20141116_202030338 IMG_20141116_201956240 20141116_211425-220141116_210158-2 IMG_20141116_214011755_HDR IMG_20141116_214228335 IMG_20141116_214946931_HDR

We enjoyed a nice view and some fall foliage colors too. Here Finn is getting familiar with our cabin and his room.  He loved the lights and ornaments on the tree and he broke out in dance mode a few times.  He did really well in the car. It is a 6 hour drive (without any stops) and as per usual he only slept about 1.5 hours!

DSC_0747DSC_0748DSC_0751DSC_0752DSC_0756DSC_0759DSC_0768DSC_0772DSC_0940IMG_20141116_114501546-2DSC_0949DSC_0954DSC_0767DSC_0943DSC_0956DSC_0944And we fit in a super-quick trip to The Christmas Place for a bit of shopping. We didn’t get much accomplished, as we had to head to our dinner show, but it was fun to see the lights and quickly walk through the shop. DSC_0969And here is a silly one from the week – Finn showing Sammy a new way to wear his shirt!photo (50)

20141108_093940I’m looking forward to a few days of doing just what Finn is doing here, ha! We’ve had such a crazy busy week this week that I hardly snapped any photos. And while some of these photos are a bit fuzzy they capture Finn’s personality pretty well. He is calm and sweet, followed by fun and spunky, and sometimes he’ll mix in a little sass here and there. He NEVER sits down unless he is eating or we play Sesame Street. He is always busy investigating, watching, playing, observing, exploring, running, jumping, dancing, you name it! Every night when I put him to bed and say “I love you”, he replies “wuv you mama” “night night” “wuv you”, “wuv you”, “wuv you”, even after I’ve closed the door. Gives my heart tingles – he’s so sweet. He is speaking a ton, often times 3 or 4 words together (yewwow truck mama, pease choc choc milk, bye bye dada, tank you dada (or mama, or Debbie), pease takta mama).  He usually puts the “please” before whatever he would like and then adds mama or dada to the end. And he is so polite, if you give him something he has asked for he almost always says “tank you mama” without any prompting. IMG_20141108_112030082_HDR IMG_20141108_112103749_HDR IMG_20141104_174811790 DSC_0735 IMG_20141109_202910236 IMG_20141109_091750164 DSC_0743 DSC_0737Now that we’ve partially painted the basement (tv area) and Kevin put everything back in it’s place we’ve been spending time together downstairs. One night Griffin kept saying “out, out, out” so I went to see what he had gotten himself in to and found this, including the pouty/sassy lip:IMG_20141109_200753346And it made me think of how small he used to be when we kept this rocker upstairs in our bathroom and would plop him in it while we were showering or getting ready and wanted to keep him in one place.  Such a little boy – this is from August 31, 2013:august_31_2013-2We spent some time preparing our house and completing a lot of smaller details to get everything presentable in order to host the 40th birthday party for my fabulous friend Sarah. I began to think we were a bit crazy trying to tackle so many things, but it was great to have a deadline to get things wrapped up. We painted the basement ceiling now that it is complete. Brett created a really pretty wood ceiling with can lights that was based on a design Kevin found. Then we painted the walls white (rather than the yucky almondy-yellow color, blech) and Kevin put it all the furniture and various things back together. Kevin and his dad installed several light fixtures. We put up curtain rods and curtains. We purchased a couple of area rugs and accessories. Everything is really coming together and looking quite nice! There are only a few images here, more to come in the near future. DSC_0709 DSC_0713 DSC_0715Around 30 of Sarah’s family and friends were able to join us to celebrate her 40th, and sadly I didn’t snap any photos that were good enough to share. They were all un-posed and not quite flattering as people were eating and talking. I forgot to take any of the setup and food except for the desserts (duh!) – but we had quite a tasty meal of ham & cheese sammie appetizers, grilled chicken, grilled peppercorn pork tenderloin, garlic mashed potatoes, pumpkin-sausage soup, mixed fruit, green salad, and a quinoa and rice salad. For dessert we had a super tasty carrot cake (from Whole Foods – it was so pretty), and yummy macarons from Pistacia Vera  in German Village and delish sugar cookies from  Sweet Tooth Cottage in Powell that perfectly matched the invites. Sweet Tooth does an amazing job – I highly recommend them if you ever want personalized or unique cookies for events! DSC_0729 DSC_0726 DSC_0724 DSC_0727 DSC_5707-2
