April 1-15, 2019

Though the weather doesn’t always seem like it, Spring Season at Millcreek has arrived and longer days at work are in full motion. While I don’t like being away from the boys as much as I am, I do love getting updates from Haya throughout the day, including pictures and videos. They are having lots of fun! The collage of Reid was put together by Google and I thought it was a good one to share. It captures his many faces and moods.

I’ve been home at good times here and there and on this particular night it was nice enough to go on an adventure through the neighborhood. Griffin really wanted to drive his car, so I traveled behind while he drove himself and Reid on a large loop down the street and back.

While Griffin seems to have moved on from his interest in arts and crafts, Haya has tried to do some fun crafts from time to time. They made a model of the solar system out of foam balls on sticks and they drew the solar system on paper. We seem to have legos everywhere these days. Griffin sometimes puts the kits together but then takes the creation and eventually makes his own. He currently has an army of his own creations. It’s fun to see how he uses the parts he has and his imagination to build different vehicles. And then to hear him play with his vehicles in his room is fun too!

I’ve taken both Lily and Brutus to Millcreek this spring on my Saturday’s so far. It’s been fairly “quiet” and Lily is a piece of cake and happily greets everyone. I’m working on getting Brutus used to strange and new situations. He was so funny when he walked from the car across the parking lot to the shipping warehouse. He hovered close to the ground and smelled everything! When we walked in to the office he didn’t make a noise at anyone, but as new people would enter he was more skeptical. Still trying to persuade him to happily welcome people!!

Griffin is enjoying flag football (when the weather has permitted the games to be played). I basically spend 50 minutes chasing Reid and trying to keep him off the field. He’s a little pistol and when he decides to take off – he’s gone in a flash and there I go after him on to the playing field.  Griffin loves gardening with me and working in the yard. He’s also been in to climbing trees and cutting flowers. He loves to go greet Reid in the morning and one particular morning I watched the video of him going in and talking to Reid. Reid wanted out and it was kind of cute to see Griffin get him, lol. Gonna have to watch these two together!

We went to Powell’s Village Green Park for the Easter Egg hunt again this year. We met up with neighbors and friends and the older boys had a blast. Reid had his own kind of blast, by getting to his first egg, opening it, and eating the chocolate. Then he’d move on to the next. He didn’t have a care in the world about getting many eggs, just the one before him with the treat was good enough for him. After the egg hunt I went to work, Reid was home with a sitter, and Kevin and Finn headed to the OSU Football Spring Game. It was a nice day!

Later that evening we headed to the Bethune’s to celebrate Greta’s 6th birthday! I don’t have many photos from our time together but the kids had fun and Reid enjoyed the dessert, lol.

On Palm Sunday at church Griffin joined the processional of kids waving palm branches and standing up on the stage for the first song of the service. We love this tradition at church.

Griffin definitely has a love for animals. He’s told me he wishes we could have a cat. Sorry buddy, that one’s not gonna happen! But this week Haya took the boys to the pet store where he got to play with several animals, including holding hamsters. As it turns out, about a week or two later Haya got a hamster for herself and her hubby (a compromise from a puppy) and has since brought it to our house for fun. Griffin loves holding them, Reid isn’t quite sure yet.

We are loving having new windows that open! I love it when the weather is perfect to open up the house and enjoy the breeze and all the sounds of nature. This week Kevin installed window clings in our garage windows. They have a “blinds” pattern and really look nice from the street. No more dirty yucky garage blinds anymore and no new ones that will need to be cleaned!

New windows are now mounted in the porch, just one to go and then the framing of them, etc. There’s still lots of finishing details, lighting, and painting to do on the inside. We’re excited to be able to use it at some point this summer….

I love this throw back of Reid. I remember this picture at Kingwood Center when Reid was a baby. He was so smiley! Maybe it’s the orange that ties the pictures together. I’m struggling with the fact that this sweet little boy is about to turn 2!

And here is some video of the week, including Finn scoring a touchdown!

March 25, 2018 ~ 44 weeks

It was a pretty cold easter egg hunt this year at Village Green Park in Powell! We busted out the snowsuit for Reid, it was his first time in it and it was a bit short so he wasn’t able to move too well. But it worked 🙂

This year on Palm Sunday Griffin walked in along with many other kids waving Palm branches. They stood on the stage and waved their branches during a song too. Uncle Andy hung out with Reid while I snapped a photo of Finn practicing and his sent me the selfie :).  Griffin sure loves his brother. Reid is a tummy sleeper and oftentimes tucks his little legs up under his belly and his little booty is up in the air. He sure loves his sleep and has turned into the easiest baby to put to bed. Basically put him down with a pacifier and walk out! Big boys tag teaming in the cart at Costco! This guy continues to sleep all crazy in his room. Sometimes on the floor. Sometimes near the door in the little cubby of his room. Even when he’s on his bed he moves all around and ends up in crazy positions! Debbie took this pic and I have it as one of the pics on my office computer monitors. Every time someone sees it they just chuckle and remark about those cheeks.  And look at these two! These Facebook and Google photo reminders have been flooding my notifications lately. Ugh, so little!!  Griffin and Reid look totally different!

April 9, 2017

This week we did our annual tradition of planting seeds that will grow into plants for our patio vegetable garden. Griffin enjoyed pouring the water into our expandable peat pods and watching them take shape. We planted an assortment of cucumbers, cilantro, tomatoes, zucchini, butternut squash, green beans, sweet peas, watermelon, and cantaloupe.  We also planted a couple of flowers (cosmos and sunflowers). It may be a little ambitious given that we will have a busier than normal spring with the arrival of our little boy.

It was fitting that this week Griffin learned about x-rays (letter of the week was x) as he had his semi-annual trip to the dentist for his check up and he received his first-ever x-rays! It is pretty neat to be able to see his next round of teeth as they currently sit up in his gums. His dentist visit went great. He was an excellent listener and got a great report from Dr. Bob and his assistant. He always loves filling up his goody bag to take home which includes a new toothbrush (he usually chooses a superhero), a mini-toothpaste, floss, a sticker, and a toy of some sort. Today he chose the sticky action guy (that sticks to the wall when you throw it – joy!) and he got to pick a second toy for getting his first x-rays, so he chose an animal that has a parachute attached.  Lily is doing well and this week went in to have her Mast Cell Tumor removed. Everything went well and we will hear in a week or less the grade of the tumor (our hope is a low-grade tumor meaning it is localized and hasn’t spread). She has to wear the cone of shame for another two weeks. Thankfully this girl is a rock star with her cone. She is gentle with it (not blasting into things) and doesn’t mind wearing it. Sometimes I let her get comfy in her crate and then put it on her as it can be a bit difficult to turn around inside her crate with it on! Her incision was pretty large as they have to remove a large area around the tumor to ensure they get all of the tumor by taking the good skin around it as well.  After we picked Lily up on Saturday morning we quickly went home to drop her off and then headed to the fun annual Powell Easter Egg Hunt at Village Green Park. It was a beautiful and sunny morning and there were TONS of eggs so Griffin took home quite a bit of candy!

I had to head in to work for a bit after the egg hunt. While I was there Kevin and Finn headed to the zoo for Greta’s birthday celebration. Amy had party bags for each of the kids complete with baby aviator sunglasses and animal crackers! Everyone explored the zoo for several hours and I was able to meetup when I wrapped up with work.  Afterwards we went to Amy and Andy’s for pizza and cookie cake.

On Sunday, we headed to Griffin’s first flag football game after church. We signed him up through i9 sports and he plays right in Powell at the South Liberty Park field which is a short 5 minute drive from our house. Kevin is helping as an assistant coach too so it is fun for everyone :). Griffin looks so small is in over-sized extra-small jersey, number 3! He had a lot of fun and even though he is typically super confident when he plays with us or his grandparents he was a bit timid this week amongst new kids and in a new environment. He was also a bit preoccupied with the mouth guard they have to wear. He was regularly taking it in and out of his mouth while out on the field playing!  He did score a touchdown – see the video below.

And here are a couple of Finn’s exercises from the week – Easter and Spring words – and writing his name on his papers :).
