This big guy had his 6 month checkup on December 5th. We’re a bit behind as his first checkups were delayed at the start since we were on vacation. In any case, an excellent report from the doctor. He weighed in at 17 pounds 2.6 ounces (35th percentile), 27″ long (53rd percentile), and head circumference of 45 cm (86th percentile). We’re going to start experimenting with some more foods and they also encouraged giving him a sippy cup with water so he can begin learning how to drink from a cup. I was kind of surprised as I don’t remember that so early with Griffin but we will give it a go! I hadn’t even though of it yet!
The boys had a fun-filled week at home with several fun activities including making gingerbread cookies, making themselves as elves, writing letters to Santa and dropping them off at the box, and various Christmas painting projects. This year Griffin wrote out his entire letter to Santa himself! Reid was also quite happy with himself one day when he was able to open the beverage fridge. He is quite a strong little man.
Despite Brutus being the size of small pony, when he naps he loves to curl up into the tiniest of balls. I especially love that his tucks his nose under his leg.
This guy has caught a little cold and isn’t feeling the greatest. This picture captures what I think he feels like. Poor man. He’s been wanting extra snuggles and from all of his congestion and such hasn’t been sleeping the greatest. Kevin has been going in during the nighttime when Reid wakes. We’ve found if I go in then he sometimes will settle but other times isn’t happy unless he gets fed! So I snapped this pic of Kevin and Reid taking in some night time snuggles.
Griffin loves to be my baker helper. We made some brownies for the church musical and he’s a high energy mixer. The Bethune’s went on a 10-year anniversary trip so Mom and Dad came down and stayed at their house and watched the kiddos for the weekend. Griffin, Reid, and I met up with them for hockey and skating lessons on Saturday morning. It’s chilly in the rink so we were bundled up. I think Reid enjoyed his first observation experience.
After hockey and lunch at McDonald’s with the crew the kids and I headed to Enon for Jim’s 75th birthday! Kevin had left earlier in the day. The weather turned wintery and driving, though not terrible road conditions, was horrific! It took us nearly 3 hours to get to Enon. And I even got off 270 and went a back way, which was slow also. Thankfully I’d fed Reid before we left and they both took great naps!
Once we arrived in Enon we had a great time. Lots of play time on the carpet and decorating the Christmas tree, which Finn loved. In the below football pic he’s using a cucumber as his mouth guard. He’s requested a mouth guard and shin guards from Santa – but in the meantime, he’s pretty creative in making his own.
On Sunday morning the boys and I left Enon early and headed back to Dublin to meet my parents and the kids for church. Kevin wasn’t feeling well as we’ve all been fighting the yuckies. After church Grandma and Grandpa treated all of us to lunch at First Watch. Yum!
At school Griffin works a lot of letters and writing and they frequently fill out sheets like this and then at the top they draw what was written. So here is Griffin’s ornament, his favorite part of our Christmas tree!

Griffin is always looking out for his animal friends. Wiping their noses, giving them drinks, and petting them. On this particular morning he wanted to feed fishy.
We’ve enjoyed another week full of activity, including a night out for dinner with friends that included an ugly sweater contest. While we didn’t win any prizes, Kevin deserves a prize for effort as he not only purchased our sweaters, but he also purchased bows and a light set that he connected to each of our sweaters. These are definitely keepers! We’re looking forward to more sweater parties in the future…To celebrate Kevin’s birthday, we ventured to the movie theater with friends to see the classic National Lampoons Christmas vacation. We enjoyed a fun time and lots of laughs. I realized we didn’t take any pictures with the camera this week, they are all from our phones, so they are a bit fuzzy, but you’ll get the idea.
Later in the week we enjoyed the annual tradition of gathering for a holiday dinner at the Howard’s, and also a white elephant gift exchange – one for adults, and one for kids (there are about 13 of them!). Finn got a lovely blue snuggly blanket – which is actually perfect for him as he loves soft things and has been really in to his stuffed animals lately. And then there is the Christmas Sweater, originally received by Liz – then stolen by her husband Paul to lock it in for 2015. We’re looking forward to seeing what adventures the sweater will take in the coming year. We were so happy to be able to go, as we look forward to it each year, though our poor guy started a fever Thursday afternoon and we thought we may not be able to go to the party as we didn’t want to spread the germs. But with the motrin he was feeling better and everyone said to bring him, so we stayed the entire time and had such fun. Griffin was super tired and fell asleep in the car on the way home, and slept until 11 am on Friday. Woah!
Once he woke up we headed to Aunt Amy’s for a tag-team babysitting project. Finn enjoyed playing with his cousins for a short bit.
Friday we enjoyed our annual C-group Christmas party. The kids, in particular, had a great time dancing this year!
And here are a few others from our week. Lots of loving on the stuffed animals, the dogs, finding Alfred the elf (can you find him here?), painting Christmas ornaments, making foam Christmas ornaments, and wearing Ho Ho’s hat.

Our week started out on a rough note, as Finn woke up Monday morning with a fever and runny nose. Grandma and Grandpa Armstrong were here to watch him that day, which we had planned awhile back, and thankfully they were able to stay Tuesday and Wednesday too – as Debbie wasn’t able to find care for Sammy, and we certainly didn’t want him to catch this bug! Unfortunately, later in the week Grandma and Grandpa both ended up catching the bug too and Kevin had a bug also – though not the same as Griffin. Ugh! Thankfully I was able to ward off the germs. This is really the first time Finn has been sick, other than the ear infections he had back in January/February. He hasn’t ever had a runny/snotty nose and fever. Poor guy, he woke up in the mornings with his entire upper lip crusted over. When I would try to clean it off, he would cry, and then turn super cute and say “hi mamma, hi mamma, hi mamma” while trying to touch my face. He certainly has a good distraction strategy in place. We spent lots of time taking baths too, which made him quite happy.
Our week was pretty uneventful otherwise, until Sunday when we decorated our tree and began the elf on the shelf tradition. “Alfred” (aka ALF-Raaad if you are Finn) made his appearance and Griffin loved hugging on him while we read him the book. Griffin “hung” the first ornament on our tree – a photo from this year’s trip to Pigeon Forge, TN. He was really proud 🙂
Can you find Alfred?!
And here are a few other photos from the week. Poor quality as they are from my phone. Finn stepped into my shoes one night, and Kevin’s the next. He proceeded to walk in his room and the kitchen – and he was pretty successful! And Debbie has been doing all kinds of Christmas drawing and painting crafts too – Griffin loves to paint (peet) and draw. The last photo is fuzzy, but cute, as Finn was “making doggy feel better” by cleaning out his nose with the snot sucker!
