DSC_0487This was the highlight of our week – picking up daddy so he could come home from the hospital! Kevin hadn’t been feeling well for about a couple of weeks, but in particular on Wednesday and when he woke up Thursday morning he decided to go to an Urgent Care. He was diagnosed with a sinus infection, picked up his prescription, and went on to work. By the early afternoon his face was reddening and swelling and he decided to go back to the doctor.  To summarize a long story he ended up at Riverside Methodist Hospital with sinusitis and cellulitis (a bacterial skin infection). His nose and cheeks were red and swollen and his sinuses were irritated. He received IV antibiotics and we figured he would just stay overnight on Thursday night, however, it ended up being a 3-night hospital stay.  Ugh! He ended up being treated with 4 different kinds of IV antibiotics over the 3 day period along with a topical antibiotic, nasal sprays and ointments. He was released Sunday late morning and will remain on antibiotics and nasal treatments for about 2 weeks. He’s pretty worn out but super happy to be home, and we are super happy he is back!

With the germ factor, and since I’m pregnant, Kevin didn’t want me going to the hospital and risk being exposed to all kinds of things there. Fortunately we were helped by many friends and family. Pat, Brett, and Christy visited Kevin on Thursday night after he arrived at Riverside. Grandma and Grandpa Armstrong stayed for a couple of nights and Finn loved playing with them and providing good entertainment. Thanks to Cam and Christie for watching Finn (or the house as it turns out Finn was in bed!) and taking a bag of things to Kevin at Riverside, and thanks to Jim, Chad, Deven, and James for visiting Kevin at the hospital and bringing him yummy food.  We’re thankful for all of our family and friends who checked in often and prayed for Kevin and our family during this whole thing. It was far more serious than we had anticipated and a much longer hospital stay than we had ever imagined.  Thank goodness for skype!

Finn sent daddy some flowers in a cool ceramic Jeep that will go in his room after the flowers are done blooming. DSC_0494 DSC_0492

And when we picked daddy up Finn gave him a goodie bag with the chocolate chip cookies and some Reese’s eggs 🙂 He was happy to help daddy eat one on our drive home. DSC_0488 DSC_0490

I’ve been working until about 11 pm most weeknights and working Saturdays so all the days kind of blend together. I was able to go meetup with Andy, the kids, and Mom and Dad for a pizza dinner on Friday night while they were in town helping the Bethune’s.  Finn got a good bear hug from Roro and Graham.

On Friday night Finn and I made Kevin’s favorite, chocolate chip cookies, in anticipation of his coming home. Finn is such a great helper and loves to count while we measure and dump the ingredients. He also likes to turn on the mixer (he actually moves the piece that locks the mixer in place!). And of course his favorite part is cleaning the beater at the end! It’s been a good weekend though catching up around the house with laundry, cleaning, and grocery shopping. IMG_20150418_190815263_HDR IMG_20150418_193550925 IMG_20150418_193648207Sunday morning Finn woke up a hungry and happy boy. Here he was showing daddy, over skype, how much of his banana he had eaten. Along with two powdered dodo’s!IMG_20150419_075813858IMG_20150419_080924212

Finn had a fun week enjoying the warmer weather at the park, feeding the ducks, and painting some spring art!photophoto(1)photo(2)

IMG_0994Yikes! What happened to 2014? It was a year full of many happy memories, and some sad ones too. But we are thankful for the opportunities a new year brings.

We really enjoyed a pretty slow pace throughout the last week. Kevin, Finn, and I are still riding out the cough and congestion that we’ve had for a few weeks. Hoping that leaves us all soon.  We enjoyed a family pizza night at home on New Year’s Eve. Griffin and I had fun making chocolate chip cookies for us all to enjoy throughout the night. He really likes helping – measuring, counting, mixing. It’s a treat, even if it’s a bit messy 🙂 Oh, and he LOVES to lick the beater when it’s all said and done. IMG_20141231_180732128IMG_20141231_184200511 DSC_0248 DSC_0250 DSC_0249 DSC_0256 DSC_0257 DSC_0258 DSC_0266 DSC_0270Kevin and I enjoyed some snacks and movie before we watched the ball drop to ring in 2015.  Mmm….yummy. IMG_20141231_221146201Griffin has really been loving to draw or color lately. For a large part of meals he has graduated to the bar stools in the kitchen, unless we’re eating at the table and then he remains in his high chair. Anyhow, it’s also the perfect spot for some activities, like coloring! I’ve been noticing he seems to favor his left hand a lot when coloring, drawing, sometimes eating too. We don’t have any lefties in the family, so we’ll see what he ends up!IMG_20141229_183536771_HDRWe packed up all of the Christmas decor, Ho Ho and all. Finn kept sitting at the table where we gathered everything and pointing out Ho Ho. IMG_20150103_100341848_HDRDSC_0275DSC_0271On New Year’s day we enjoyed quite a tasty dinner at the Bethune’s, complete with a fancy Yule Log made by Amy. She even made mushrooms for the log (meringue’s) that were perfect. Finn really loved eating them and kept asking for more. Imagine that! Lots of fun play time with the family. IMG_20150101_174821815_HDR IMG_20150101_185424827 IMG_20150101_183543358I’m hoping to become more active in 2015 so I’ve been sporting my Fitbit Flex and going on walks with Griffin. It certainly provides motivation when I check on my steps for the day and see I have far to go. We get all suited up and go explore the surrounding neighborhoods and at the end Finn likes to play in the yard for a few minutes. IMG_20150101_133513635 IMG_20150101_134226117Herbert the Horse is still pretty popular around here.  One morning Finn wanted dog dog to ride on the horse with him.  Then, one by one, he wanted to add each of his stuffed animals to his crew. At the end, it was pretty cramped!IMG_20150104_084020852IMG_20150104_084153086

DSC_0176We have much to be thankful for, both now, in the Thanksgiving and Christmas season and throughout the year. Our sweet little boy just warms our heart, he is a true joy. We are blessed to come from loving, caring, and generous families who continue support us in many ways. We are thankful for our friends who love and support us and share life with us. I am thankful that God has provided such a loving, caring, and supportive husband who loves me day in and day out, no matter what.

Finn and I headed to Mansfield Tuesday evening in preparation for our annual Hosta Seed Planting and greenhouse covering adventures. Seems as though dad and I aren’t as productive as we once were – we only planted a small handful of trays on Wednesday – yikes! Finn was pretty spoiled as he was the only grandchild there on Tuesday evening. He was soaking up Grandma and Grandpa’s attention. The rest of the troops arrived on Wednesday. We were fortunate to spend time with both of our families on Thanksgiving Day. We enjoyed the Armstrong gathering at Dave & Gayle’s where Finn played with Grandma and Grandpa. He loved going outside to see Boogey and Joe, Dave & Gayle’s horses.  To this day if I ask Finn about Boogey (he refers to him as Booger, lol, which is somewhat telling I hear), he says “Doe”, for Joe. He has an amazing memory, heck, I often can’t even remember things that he does! We also joined the Beilstein’s for dinner and a short bit of play time before bed.  All of the food everywhere was delicious – we are fortunate to eat twice 🙂 Black Friday began with our traditional breakfast at Bob Evans, followed by lots of shopping at Polaris and then a bit at Easton along with dinner at Bon Vie. It was a packed day, but a fun one for sure!DSC_0007 DSC_0011 DSC_0015 IMG_20141126_175413233

These two went off on a few adventures together. IMG_20141126_190015762 IMG_20141126_190124912 DSC_0022

And these boys are two peas in a pod with their lovies. DSC_0023 DSC_0026 DSC_0032 DSC_0033 DSC_0036 DSC_0038 DSC_0042

This is Boogey (aka Booger, if you’re Finn). He’s playful and is sniffing my head here in our selfie. DSC_0046

And here is Joe. DSC_0050 DSC_0053 DSC_0056 DSC_0057 DSC_0068 DSC_0069 Lots of younger cousin play time happening!DSC_0070 DSC_0071 DSC_0076 DSC_0077 DSC_0084 DSC_0061 DSC_0063 DSC_0086 DSC_0087 DSC_0088 DSC_0092 DSC_0093 Oh, and I snapped this picture of an Olan Mills photo of the cousins from 1979. Kevin is the top row, left. He is 16 years old here! Todd is next to him, then Scot, then Sean. Middle row is Brett and Jason. Bottom row is Juan, Carmen, Ashley, and Jared.  Some cousins aren’t in the photo – as they weren’t born yet!DSC_0064 We jumped out of the car and snapped this photo on our way out of town. It is near farmland that was once farmed by Kevin’s grandfather. Pretty cool, right?DSC_0094 DSC_0101

Silly cousins….DSC_0108 DSC_0110 And Lily photo bombing this one……DSC_0112 DSC_0113All of the boys wanted to sit in the rocking recliner together!
DSC_0117 This is a pretty typical scene – Lily with a bone amid a bunch of toys!DSC_0119 DSC_0123 DSC_0129 DSC_0133

Let Black Friday madness begin!

At this point we were reaching deliriousness – running up and down the men’s suit selection and hiding and giggling. Followed very shortly thereafter with screaming and crying as he was beyond done!IMG_20141128_192900168We ventured to Cackler Family Farms again this year to search for the perfect tree to cut. We were on a mission, as it was the OSU-v-Michigan game day! We walked around a little bit, but pretty quickly found the tree for us. A 13′ Cannan Fir. Finn loved riding in the sled. It was pretty breezy, but he was a real trooper, getting right up with Kevin to “help” cut down the tree.DSC_0135DSC_0138DSC_0141DSC_0147DSC_0155DSC_0164DSC_0171DSC_0176DSC_0157DSC_0177DSC_0179DSC_0181DSC_0185DSC_0187DSC_0194DSC_0198DSC_0201DSC_0202DSC_0204DSC_0206DSC_0213DSC_0216DSC_0221DSC_0222DSC_0224DSC_0226DSC_0235DSC_0237DSC_0243DSC_0245DSC_0247DSC_0248DSC_0252DSC_0253DSC_0305DSC_0278IMG_20141129_124742426_HDRDSC_0254DSC_0259DSC_0262DSC_0263DSC_0265DSC_0267DSC_0272DSC_0290DSC_0291And here are a few random photos from the week.  Finn brushing his teeth while sitting in a box I had just emptied. Then he decided to cuddle with Lily and a short while later he was playfully crawling all over Cameron, and testing the waters by standing on a bin in his rooms – arms up, none-the-less!
