DSC_0143 We’ve had an adventurous week this week filled with lots of time outside, including picking many cucumbers and zucchini and playing with Lily. We went to the zoo three times too and saw so many fun animals. We explored several parts of the zoo we hadn’t previously been through and of course we got in a couple rides on the carousel. Finn absolutely loves to have the dogs around all the time. He climbs all over Lily and talks to both of the dogs all the time. When they walk into a room he often does a little dance. DSC_0147DSC_0231 DSC_0160 DSC_0164 DSC_0167 DSC_0174DSC_0220DSC_0204DSC_0207DSC_0210DSC_0209DSC_0219DSC_0202DSC_0199DSC_0195DSC_0193DSC_0192Finn continues to love to climb and test the waters with what he should and shouldn’t be doing. One evening in the kitchen he pulled a box off the chair along with his to go bag and proceeded to step on the box while carrying his bag.  He certainly is able to multi-task! He also loves to climb on his toy car in his room and stand on the seat and get things off his dresser, in this case, a bunch of homeless socks!DSC_0233 DSC_0236IMG_20140718_174847881Thursday we were able to host a family gathering at our place as Kevin’s brother Sean along with Chris and their kids Max and Charlotte are visiting from New Mexico. Grandma and Grandpa Armstrong and Brett were here as well. Finn enjoyed meeting his cousins for the first time and the kiddos played together for awhile in the basement and outside. Unfortunately, rather sad circumstances led to their trip to Ohio as they are here to attend two unrelated funerals. So while Sean and Chris traveled on Saturday, Grandma, Grandpa, Max, Charlotte, Brett, Missy, Kevin, Finn and myself spent the day together at the zoo. Though the day started of rainy it actually turned out to be a perfectly pleasant overcast day!

Finn was only wearing his socks, and left cute little trails all over the driveway. DSC_0402DSC_0403The highlight of this trip to the zoo for Finn was riding the camels (mamals)! He was super excited (though it doesn’t look like it here) and wouldn’t stop saying “mamals, mamals, mamals!”. DSC_0339 DSC_0331 DSC_0330 DSC_0334 DSC_0337Several areas of progress this week on the remodeling. On Monday Kevin and Brett prepped and framed the bay window area for new windows (installed on Tuesday) and added new cedar siding. After the windows were installed (by Lowe’s) Brett finished the details. The new windows are shorter than the previous windows since the kitchen sink and counters will be along the wall. Kevin primed the wood with tinted primer, so from the outside you can’t even tell anything was done. These guys are professionals 🙂  Our new refrigerator arrived on Thursday and Brett also finished up the food pantry with all of the shelving and framing for various items that will be installed (a drawer freezer and either the wine fridge or ice maker). Kevin filled the nail holes and then sanded everything so now all that remains is for the shelves to be painted and the counter to be installed. Things are moving right along!DSC_0126 DSC_0151 DSC_0153 DSC_0181 DSC_0182 DSC_0229 DSC_0279 DSC_0280 IMG_20140720_090255356 IMG_20140720_090313275 IMG_20140720_090333978 IMG_20140720_090548035

Finn ~ 42 weeks

DSC_10432014 has officially arrived and despite having started the year off on a bit of a rocky road we are hopeful that this year will be another wonderful year filled with change, fun adventures, and family. We had a low-key New Year’s Eve celebration – just Kevin, Finn, and myself hitting up our local dive for a bite to eat. We later watched the ball drop on tv and called it a night.

We celebrated New Years Day with a nice dinner at our house. There were plenty of good eats including pork, sauerkraut, and a lucky black-eyed-pea dish. DSC_0975 DSC_0989Dad is keeping quite busy with stained glass projects and has most recently taken up stained glass lamps. While we were home over Christmas I picked out some glass along with my mom and dad – and by New Years Day dad already had it finished and brought it with them! Check it out – it’s more beautiful in person 🙂 IMG_20140101_215554303 IMG_20140101_215517332 IMG_20140101_215433855 IMG_20140101_215406411Griffin has been sleeping really well this past week or two. He takes two lengthy naps a day and one of them is often 3 or 4 hours! He is getting in 2 or 3 more teeth and has plenty of funny faces that he makes which prominently feature his funky toothy grin. DSC_0999 DSC_0995 DSC_1009

Tricia, our first and only nanny, who has cared for Griffin for the last seven months is moving on to her next phase of life and begins student teaching next week so Friday was her last day. She has showered Finn with love and cuddles from the time he was 12 weeks old. He smiles every morning when he sees her. He’s reached several milestones throughout these last 7 months and we are grateful to have had her be a part of our family. She’s also helped care for the dogs when we’ve gone on vacation, not to mention during the week when she is here. We wish her the best of luck and promise to have her babysit for Finn soon! DSC_1051 DSC_1037 DSC_1030 DSC_1057 DSC_1026 DSC_1019 DSC_1042

Part of our rough start to 2014 is Hailey’s declining health. Our sweet old girl has had a rough couple of weeks, but certainly a tough last few days. It has been very difficult for her to stand up, in particular her hind legs seem to give out or not have the strength to begin with to allow her to stand or walk. Since Friday Kevin has had to carry her outside. It breaks my heart. Once she stands for a few minutes she can walk a short distance. She makes it to her water bowl and over to her bed in the family room. We are hoping that part of this is due to the antibiotics she has been on to rid a bladder infection as something similar happened last time she was on medication in November. Within a few days of finishing her pills she regained her appetite and mobility. We’re hopeful, yet also recognize that she is 14 years and 4 months old and she’s not getting any younger. Love this cuddle bear to pieces and have fond memories of her storming through the house and yard as a young energetic pup. DSC_1059 DSC_1084 DSC_1082 DSC_1070 DSC_1068 DSC_1066 DSC_1077 DSC_1093 DSC_1095 DSC_1096 DSC_1033 DSC_1032 DSC_1031

Finn ~ 16 weeks

DSC_0897

Last weekend we spent some time in the yard doing some major reclamation of our gardens!  The weeds had grown like crazy and taken over our front bed in particular. Between being gone a lot and all of the rain lately we haven’t had much opportunity to work outside. Luckily Finn took a couple of good naps during the weekend which allowed us to spend some much needed time outdoors. Things are once again looking good!

Finn is really getting to be a pro at hand-eye coordination. He is constantly grabbing at any and everything with his hands.  Beginning this week he is in love with holding his feet with his hands. It seems like he constantly has his legs up in the air at ninety-degree angles and is reaching for his toes.  His favorite position when being held is to stand upright, facing whoever is holding him. He has really strong legs and is quite good at grabbing (or swatting) at your face!

He continues to sleep in a “sleep sack”. We had a rough night this week where he was waking every two hours, ugh! That makes for one tired momma! Not sure what that was all about but hopefully we won’t have too many more of those.  I’m hoping he will “sleep through the night” soon. He usually sleeps about 6 hours, but oftentimes his last feeding before bed is sometime in the 9 pm hour, which means he is getting up around 3 am! We’ve also had to make the next diaper size upgrade as he was seeming to leak through 1 of every 2 diapers. I stepped on the scale with our little man this week and I think he is right around the 14 pound mark. He has some cute perma-wrinkles in his upper thighs.  He continues to lose some hair – mostly on the left and right sides of his head. The back still has plenty of hair and the top is as crazy as ever. What is coming in is definitely blonde!

I love his expressions here!

Work is going pretty well for me. I’ve been really busy with lots of planning and season re-cap meetings since my return. The days pass pretty quickly and Finn is doing really well with Tricia while I’m gone. He sleeps and eats great, usually taking 2 long naps (2 hours or more) during the day. She takes photos of him and posts them in our baby app so both Kevin and I enjoying being able to see him throughout the day.

We have been enjoying a short work week this week due to the holiday. On Thursday we had a fun family cookout to celebrate the 4th of July with the Beilstein’s, Bethune’s, and Armstrong’s. It was a fun afternoon filled with plenty of food! We really enjoy having everyone over. Finn was so into it that he felt he’d rather join the party than sleep, so he was up most of the time other than a few power naps of about 1/2 hour each! He made up for that on Friday though, taking a few rather long naps. Kevin and I enjoyed a nice day around the house and then went out to do a bit of shopping at the mall Friday evening.

Kevin was playing ball with Cameron the other day. It never lasts long, as Lily always feels she must get in on the action. Bear is getting along pretty good these days. She hobbles along, but still makes it almost everywhere that everyone else does!

Tonight is our second date night. We will be taking Finn to Amy and Andy’s while we head out to dinner and a movie. We are looking forward to that!
