Another milestone this week – Reid’s first hair cut! We figured at 15 1/2 months it was time to get a big boy hair cut. He has wispy bangs and long hair in the back that could use a trim so we took him to Cookie Cutters. To be honest I was a bit nervous as he is a particular one – not wanting to have his teeth brushed or wanting to sit still in restaurants in his high chair/seat for longer than 10 minutes! He did surprisingly well as he watched a few minutes of a show (he’s also not nearly into tv shows like Griffin was/is – he loses interested and moves along to something else) and then I distracted him with toys in a basket. We were in and out in less than 25 minutes! He looks super cute 🙂Â
For comparison, here is Griffin after his first haircut at 12 months old.Â
This face cracks me up. He has been making this face a lot lately, especially if I ask him to show me his teeth. He crinkles his nose and does a little snort sometimes. Silly little man.Â
Friday was the annual Open House at Millcreek. I was super bummed this year that Griffin had school, so he wasn’t able to be there. It was the first one he’s missed! Kevin was able to come and bring Reid though, so everyone watched his walk all around before we sat down and enjoyed a tasty BBQ lunch. We had 2 seminars and a “40 years of Memories at Millcreek” segment that George presented in the afternoon. It was one of the most well-attended open houses we’ve had, along with great weather – which was a treat as it had been horribly hot earlier in the week.
A few others from this week: Hannah and Griffin made a tasty Fall Chocolate cake this week. He was really proud of his decorating. One weeknight when it was raining Kevin was outside mowing and had to cut it short. It had been awhile since he stopped mowing but he hadn’t come in yet, so I went out to check on things and discovered him playing football in the rain with the kiddos. They had a great time – they didn’t come in until dark and were all soaking wet! I really enjoyed watching that. They were all having so much fun.Â
Griffin has been working on sight words at school and he brings home a sight word ring in his reading bag each day. He also has a sight word booklet that we work on at home and when he’s ready to be assessed by his teacher we sign it and send it to school with him. This week Finn “passed” his first list in his green booklet. Way to go Finn! He was so proud and happy when I we went through his bag that night 🙂Â
Hannah and Griffin have also been working on this puzzle and finished it this week. Yay, finally one with no missing pieces!!
On Saturday I had to go to Millcreek for several hours to get ready for some consultants visiting next week. Griffin begged to come with me so we packed up his “work” bag and headed to work. As an added treat we enjoyed the leftover bbq from the open house the previous day. He got to enjoy the tasty treats after all!Â
These two. They lay on anything that is soft and cuddly. Griffin loves putting his pillows and blankets on the floor and making various designs. Each night at bed time when we all parade into his room these guys settle right on to everything – despite the entire rest of the room being available for them to lay down.Â
Naked baby with hulk hands, lol! I’ve realized that I hardly ever take pictures of Reid without his clothes on and he has the biggest and cutest belly! He was loving running around the loft wearing Griffin’s huge hulk hands.Â

Hello blue eyes! We’ve had a pretty calm week around here this week until the weekend. Friday night excitement was for the boys to get hair cuts side-by-side at Sport Clips. Finn’s hair was cut a bit shorter than we intended, but it looks great and you can definitely see his eyes better. He sat in the chair like a perfect big boy. His stylist said she was the best little boy she had all day. Â
Saturday was full of fun domestic chores like cleaning the house and doing some laundry. But the night turned ever more fun when Jaime and Aaron came over for dinner and fun with their kids Lexi and Chase. Once Finn woke up from his nap (at 5:15 pm) the kiddos enjoyed lots of play time together before we sat down for a yummy steak dinner. It was so cute to watch the kids play, I think they had a pretty good time working at the tool bench, jumping on the coach, and playing with all of the toys downstairs.Â
Sunday afternoon we headed to Enon to visit with Kevin’s family and check out a potential house for Jim and Pat. Kevin, Brett, and Jim spent most of their time walking around inside and checking out potential renovation ideas and since it was so nice and “warm” out, Finn and I spent most of the time outside walking up and down the long driveway. And, of course, throwing rocks and playing with the sword (a nice long blade of pampas grass from the yard).Â
Griffin has been doing really well on the potty, usually going 2 or 3 times a day. Sometimes he’s interested, other times he’s not. We just kind of roll with his mood and don’t push it. His vocabulary continues to grow each day too, as do his opinions (“no Mama, no” and “self” have been common ones lately!). Here are a few others from the week.  Donuts – always a favorite, reading with daddy in one of the many pairs of new jammies from cousins Graham and Roro (among other things, thanks Bethune’s!), and Friday night basketball practice with Lily and Cameron (this was before the hair cut!).  Kevin snapped the last photo on our drive back from Enon, Finn and I were a bit sleepy!
Have a great week!

It’s been another week full of fall pumpkin fun around here! We joined a group of friends for a play date at Lehner’s Pumpkin Farm. It turned out to be a small group and a really chilly day. It was, however, an awesome place that we will certainly return to next year. Our group was setup as a “class” so we had a nearly 3 hour schedule that moved us throughout the farm and included a bunch of activities, petting animals, riding a wagon to go pick a pumpkin, and having lunch. It was really a lot of fun, and I’m glad I was able to go there over my “lunch” hour(s) as it was relatively close to Millcreek.
Finn got another haircut this week in preparation for our fall family and Finn’s 18 month photos that Amy took for us this week. We are excited to see how those turn out.  We dressed up as a German couple for the annual Halloween Costume Party this year. Didn’t turn out too bad for such a last minute purchase 😉
Finn is really loving playing with cars, trucks, farm machinery – any small moving vehicle. Lately he gets right down on the floor and puts his cheek on the ground and plays with his toys. First thing every morning he still wants to get either his plane, tractor, or car off his dresser while he’s getting changed (which he doesn’t love much these days). And he loves reading books that are all about “dig dig dig” (read that as any type of machinery) are his favorite. He’s also loving sleeping with a blanket, in addition to dog dog and fishy. He looks so sweet when he is sleeping and this week I was able to capture a couple of photos. He is also becoming quite independent and moves really quickly. A few times he’s gone either up or down the stairs before we realize it. He can be quiet and quick – and is so proud of himself when he reaches the top or bottom he has the largest grin on his face.Â
We had the most beautiful fall day and enjoyed family fun with my lovely OU college friends and their husbands and kids at Young’s Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs. We’re pretty much regulars there this time of year. It was great to see everyone, though hard to have much conversation with anyone amongst trying to keep up with all of the kids. They range in age from 1 to 8, which makes finding activities that everyone finds enjoyable somewhat of a challenge. We did have fun petting the goats (that’s twice in one week!), checking out pumpkins, watching the Eilerman’s launch pumpkins into the sky, and making it partially through the corn maze before enjoying a sweet treat and heading home.
