It’s been another fun week for the Armstrong family. Finn had his first visit to the Dentist this week and he was a-w-e-s-o-m-e! We went to Haring Pediatric Dental (turns out Dr Haring is from Mansfield!) in Dublin. They recently moved in to their new office space and it is really cool. Their logo is a turtle and the entire office is themed with turtles and nautical things. They have the neatest “waiting room” for the kids. For the exam, Lynette, the Hygienist, gave Finn a pair of cool spider man sunglasses to wear. She explained each of the instruments before she used it and he got to choose his flavor of fluoride (watermelon, of course). She told him anytime he wanted a “drink” to let her know and she would give him one out of the water gun. Sure thing, he asked twice for water, ha! She assured me that we did not have what she considered a “normal” visit for a 2-year old as she kept praising how great of a patient he was. She asked if we had been practicing, which we hadn’t, other than a couple quick photos in the car right before hand. He checked out great, though he has two spots (one on each lower eye-tooth) where there was an interruption in the formation of the enamel and it appears as round spots on the front of his teeth near the gums. She said most likely it won’t be a problem, but can make cavities more likely there. At the end of his appointment he was watching her work on the computer and she asked if he wanted to help, so she put him right on her lap and told him what she was writing up. I told her his favorite part of the keyboard is to press the “zero”, but he didn’t ask her to do it!.
Friday evening was the Preschool’s Fall Fest at NPCA. There were hot dogs, ice cream, and many games for the kids to play. After completing each game they won a prize for their bag. Finn’s favorite was the whistle that he chose after tossed a ring around a pumpkin – which was the Guppy class (his pre-school class, hence the fish theme) activity for the night.
Saturday we had an afternoon adventure to Mansfield to pick apples with Grandma and Grandpa Beilstein. We went to Apple Hill Orchard and got to see roosters, a goat and sheep, we took a long wagon ride around the farm, and we picked lots of yummy apples. And while we finished picking apples, Kevin went across the street to their store and picked up a dozen WARM apple donuts and apple cider (the aroma of them fresh baking the donuts percolated through the entire apple field where we were picking, so of course we had to buy some before we left!). We picked Honeycrisp, Jonathan, a golden variety and an unknown (to us) red apple. They are delish. And Finn loves to be hoisted into the air to pick the highest apples possible. Kevin, Dad, and I all took turns – but daddy wins the prize for the highest!
In other things, I hadn’t checked in on the garden for any harvest lately and once I did – check this out! Our one ginormous zucchini. It is as tall as Finn’s waist!
And here is a favorite of mine from Saturday morning, Finn woke up after 9 am and was a super happy boy! He likes to be worn as a hat!

Well, having returned from vacation we’ve been trying to get back into our regular routine at home. We’ve had a pretty uneventful week up until the weekend which was full of adventure and fun! First up, as you can see above, a trip up to Mansfield where Kevin helped dad go pick up a 1953 MG TD that he is going to restore – his next hobby! They made the trip to the Akron area Friday evening and returned just before dusk where we were able to take a quick peak before they covered it up for the night. Finn loved checking it out and dad is pretty stoked to begin this new project!
Then it was Leaning Tower pizza and sub for dinner!
Here are some photos in the daylight on Saturday morning before they headed off to drop the car off at the shop that will be helping dad with the restoration.
I look forward to seeing these two tool around town in this car once it’s all up and running!
And on Saturday we all headed back to Columbus to celebrate cousin Rowan’s 4th birthday part at the Fire Station #93 in Dublin. The part was complete with a tour of the entire fire station, the kids were able to sit in the medic ambulance, the fire trucks, spray water out of the fire hose, and as a special treat Rowan, Greta, Graham, and Griffin were able to ride around the parking lot in the actual fire truck! What a fun party!

Griffin and I tagged along with Daddy to the Crew Game this night and amongst other items like a hot dog and popcorn, Finn had his first taste of cotton candy. I wish we could have captured his cute little face when he took his first bite. He lit up like a flashlight and was pretty excited. He said it was so “yummy”. I used to love cotton candy when I was little. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – isn’t that how it goes?
Other adventures this week were a couple of hours on Sunday at the Memorial Golf Tournament at Muirfield. It was a really warm afternoon and Finn went with us. We spent most of our time near the green on 14. We had a nice little spot and watched several golfers come through. Finn is so observant and really loves to clap. Even without prompting after the golfer would make his shot and others would begin clapping, he just perked right up and started clapping too. So cute.
After the tournament we headed to Mansfield to celebrate dad’s birthday with a cookout with the rest of the family. We tooled around the yard a bit and across the bridge to check out grandpa’s plants. And of course, we had an ice cream cake from DQ – it’s almost a yearly tradition on dad’s birthday! Finn, Graham, and Rowan enjoyed “helping” open gifts and sampling the frosting.
Kevin and I used to spend a lot of time downtown when he lived there and we were dating. I took Finn down to meet Kevin one night for dinner on the patio at the Elevator. We got super lucky and made it to our car just prior to a ginormous rain storm. I mean there was flooding on 315 on our way home! We all had fun though, and Finn wanted to get down and smell the flowers near our table for a short bit.
And here are a couple of highlights of Finn playing with Lily. He talks her into coming everywhere we go in the house, or in the yard. Though she doesn’t always listen without adult coercion 🙂 This night I snapped a few phone pics of him laying down in the hallway talking to her. Before long he wanted to get his blankie and cover her up for her nap. He’s a really good caretaker!
