April 1-30, 2020

Peace out to April, we’re going back to the past to wrap up this post! Griffin loves to give various signs when posing for pictures these days. He sure is growing up both literally and figuratively. Here they are showing off their Ninja gingerbread men that they decorated during the day with Mara.

With Coronavirus and quarantine, we’ve pretty much been at home together other than when Megan at Millcreek. That means we’ve gotten to spend a lot of time outside enjoying the (periodic) nice weather and burning some good energy. The boys love to run in the driveway and with me when we go on walks together. Or ride bikes, scooters, etc. We’ve had Brutus out front with us on several occasions and he does really well with the kids playing and the passers by.

I got a text one afternoon from our neighbors that they’d dropped something off in our mailbox.  Turns out they left brownies (aka Brown E’s, lol).  A fun little joke!

Both Griffin and Reid have adapted fairly well to school from home. Reid has been enjoying the free ABC Mouse subscription made available through his preschool. He enjoys his tablet time for sure. Griffin has had weekly zoom meetings (or more often) with his teacher and classmates. And I registered the kids for a Zoo session with the Columbus zoo that took place via Zoom too.

After a driveway gathering with our neighbors Kevin came inside for a phone call/meeting and brought Reid inside too as it was a bit chilly outside. After a few minutes Kevin looked over and saw Reid like this in the office char – sound asleep!

One pro of the whole Corona thing is the boys have had so much time to be together. They are really learning to play well together (Kevin reiterates this as I’m at work all the time!). They enjoy playing in the tub together, being outside, playing legos, bad guys, chase, and so on. Griffin looked outside one afternoon from the loft window and saw Cole and Cooper playing together and asked if he could join. I told him for now, he could not, and he got so upset he started crying. This whole social distancing is hard for young kids! He pleaded and begged and said he would stay far away, etc. Instead, I proposed we make Easter Egg rice krispies and we could take some to his friends.  He was so happy and lit up like a light! So we proceeded to make pink (strawberry flavored) easter eggs out of rice krispies. Yes, they do look like meatballs if you just take a quick glance! Both Cole and Cooper were quite happy to receive their own baggies of Pink Egg Krispies and Griffin was so glad to get outside and talk to his friends even if not for a long time.

Easter was a bit different this year with no family gatherings on either the Beilstein or Armstrong sides. The boys had loaded Easter baskets complete with bubbles, monster trucks, and loads of sweet treats, some of which we bought from Marie’s Candies, a local company owned and run by our friend Rebecca.  They make the best candies if you ever need anything and it arrived packaged very neatly in pink crinkle stuffing!  Reid is our early bird – typically rising at the same time each morning right around, say, 6:08 am.  His is like an alarm clock.

After making their way through their Easter baskets we made a nice and tasty breakfast and used the mini pancake/waffle maker that Haya gave me for Mother’s Day. It makes the cutest little treats! And of course, a little whip cream straight from the can never hurts anyone!

Not entirely sure how we filled our day and that it went to quickly, but just before dinner we fit in our egg hunt and some family photos. Brutus came out with us, but Lily was inside, so we have some family photos from each! I’m sad to have missed our traditional Easter Egg Hunt on the Powell Village Green this year, cancelled due to Coronavirus. But the boys had a great time in our front yard and found the golden eggs! We had  a pretty elaborate

We have wanted to replace our office furniture for quite some time and the working from home situation moved that along! Kevin found a desk and filing cabinet online and once it arrived we got it moved in, Kevin took the old desk and filing cabinet out to the driveway and the next day someone picked it up, yay! The office changeover has been a slow process and we still have a ways to go but it is nice to have more storage in the desk and not have a hutch for all the things! We’ve also moved a lot to our cabinets and plan to do more organizing and rearranging as time allows.

There was a lot of uncertainty with my work surrounding the Coronavirus situation. Would we be able to ship with all of the stay at home orders in Ohio and the surrounding states? Would our customers be able to operate? In the beginnings we had many management meetings discussing all the potential situations as well as what to do in regards to our team of employees. We did end up shaving some production numbers for herbs and perennials, which would impact our availability beginning week 17, which is typically one of our busiest weeks of the year. We kept every staff member and after a two week hiring pause and no-overtime rule, our orders began to increase and we hired another round of seasonal staff. After a week or two of production cuts, as we didn’t want to have a lot of inventory that we aren’t able to move or maintain, we kept our plans on target and business picked up. Despite the weird and cold and then hot and then cold April weather we began regularly shipping. We’re thankful for that! I took Brutus with me to work the first Saturday in April as my office buddy. He chills out and sleeps on the floor after initially sniffing the entire place and being weirded out by the noises of the copier. Mid-April Dad and Mom came down to Millcreek to plant up some hosta seedlings that we’re going to grow at Millcreek for a short time. We planted up about three racks worth over 2 or 3 weekends. It was fun! They are growing in our new shipping facility, which is a huge greenhouse.

We hired the landscapers who are doing our neighborhood common areas this year to do our mulching, edging, and take out a bunch of shrubbery. We had them clear out the end of the front garden, removing the invasive honeysuckle shrubs and half dead yellow shrubs (not the ones we planted 7 years ago). We also had them remove all the shrubs from the East side of the house, other than a hydrangea.  Bye bye forsythia and more honeysuckle! And from the west side near the garage they took out the alberta spruce, lilac, and other untidy things. It looks so much nicer and cleaner! And hoping our purple maple will take off now that there is less competition out front.

Look at our tiny Rising Sun redbud from 3 years ago (after one winter). It is really nice and beautiful now! Though this year half the flowers got zapped by a later frost.

Haya sent me these pictures one day, which I thought were perfect pictures of Reid’s personality :).

There’s that peace sign again……and the boys in their matching jammies. They are really in to matching lately  and each night try to have on matching jams. Lots of days they also like to have matching outfits, or at least the same color or theme. We’ve been talking to Reid about his pacifier and how on his third birthday we’ll give it away to the babies who need it. He’s decided he’s going to give his to his friend Abbie, up the street. She’s 15 months old and just his favorite friend. He loves baby Abbie. He’s bitten his paci so much that we’ve had to cut it down to get rid of the possibility of him biting it off and choking on it. So there really isn’t much left! But he still loves to hold it when he sleeps.

Here Reid made his bird feeder that was one of the activities his teachers dropped off from school. They’ve done a great job dropping off packets of worksheets, activities, and so on during the whole home-learning thing.

The boys and I have been going on a lot of walks, usually with Brutus along too. I’ve been taking him off the leash and he does really well. And we got some nice shots of Lily out front during one of our driveway gatherings with friends. She just loves to come outside and go up to everyone and then just lay down and bathe in the sunshine.

We skipped planting seeds indoors this year and went straight for the outdoor garden! Reid helped me plant the cilantro seeds. We also planted a couple basil plants, chives, garlic, and a purple lettuce (Cavendish) to start.  Griffin also planted the flower seeds in his planter that he painted (from Grandma and Grandpa Beilstein). There will be marigolds, cosmos, and zinnias!

One morning Griffin woke up in a total crankster mood. Kevin later texted me this picture and said perhaps this was why – he had stayed up super late in his room “organizing and sorting” his Pokemon cards by color.  Woah – this boy has a knack! I’ve also been having the boys help me prep some food, primarily fruit. They love to help and I find they are much more excited to eat whatever it is they helped with!

Keeping pics of these for the memory books – our Corona home-school progress charts for the week!

This is a regular occurrence each night when we ask the boys to say their prayer, lol. They face-plant on the floor, hands on faces, and say their prayers. I have no idea why they started doing this.

A local distillery, Watershed, has begun making hand sanitizer. Since everyone is wanting it and it’s hard to find in any store, Kevin decided to head to Watershed on a Saturday morning. He ended up waiting and hour and a forty-five minutes in their well-organized drive-thru system. He got a gallon jug and 4 hand-pumps. I took some to work and we have some at home. I’ve been trying to stock-pile cleaning supplies since we’ve implemented daily cleanings of all buildings and are requiring frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing.

During one of our neighbor driveway gathering I mentioned making peanut butter cookies. Brian texted me a recipe his mom makes and Lisa, Alex, and I each made a batch later that day. Griffin helped me make the fork marks.

Look at this handsome fella! He snapped a photo to use for some casual work purposes. I think it’s a great one!

Look at this double rainbow that appeared one night as I was about to leave Millcreek.  It was so awesome and the colors were so vivid. The picture doesn’t capture it all very well, but I tried! And here are a couple other photos of me and Brutes, and some memories from years past.  Look at how little those kiddos are! We need to have another filet progressive dinner when the corona ends!

And here are a couple of recent videos. Raise a Hallelujah is our nighttime song that each of the boys love to sing with me before they go to bed. Like, they won’t go to bed without signing it and if we don’t sing it long enough they come out of their rooms for more (which, let’s be honest, they come out every night anyhow!).

March 1-16, 2020 ~ Birthdays!

Given the dreary kind of day it is outside today I’d love to be doing what Reid is doing here – sleeping! This has been a pretty common scene in our home lately. Lots of bedtime snuggles, middle of the night arrivals into our room by both boys. I often wake up around the 4 am hour to the sound of Reid at the side of my bed. As soon as he sees my eyes open he climbs up into bed and under the covers and snuggles in to go to sleep. Griffin has been coming in also in the wee hours of the morning. Not sure why, but I’ll take the snuggles while I can!

I found a couple of football photos I forgot to post from last week. Reid and Arthur keep each other busy inside their “cage”.  Griffin’s head coach invited the team out for ice cream at DQ after their final game so we enjoyed a sweet treat before heading to dinner with friends. Later that evening we gave daddy his “happy new job” gift of a new travel suitcase. The boys were excited to help him unpackage it.

On our way home from gymnastics one evening there was an awesome rainbow with super wide color bands. This picture isn’t nearly as pretty as the real thing!

Reid’s teachers often post pictures in the app that they use. I enjoy being able to see Reid during the day playing games, reading, doing crafts, and having fun with friends. I had just signed Reid back up for swim lessons before the COVID-19 Stay at home orders began. He did really great and enjoyed class. I was a bit nervous as the last time he’d had lessons I was still getting in the water with him. But we hyped it up and Haya took him during the day and she got some great pictures that captured his happiness.

My morning helper, always wanting to get up in the morning and get his “milky” and help me make my coffee. He also enjoys dumping the dog food into the bowls for Lily and Brutes.

Sadly, we’re having to say goodbye to our 5-year old Frigidaire fridge. I have loved this fridge, silly as that may seem! It has the perfect layout inside and everything about it is just right – other than it has stopped cooling reliably. So we’re set to get our new one this week.

Brutus and I are still doing our daily walks. This particular morning I headed out the door and had no idea there were ginormous snowflakes falling. Huge white blobs were landing in my eyes! It was coming down pretty good for a majority of our walk and it has a heavy wet snow.

Awhile back we made plans to go to Kalahari in early March with several neighbors. It didn’t dawn on me until literally the day before that I never made arrangements for the dogs! Yikes. Mom and Dad to the rescue! Thankfully Mom and Dad watched the dogs for us on Saturday and Saturday night. It worked out well in that while we were there on Friday and Saturday morning we were able to move Dad’s office and all the computer and tv equipment down to their newly finished basement. It’s super nice down there! Griffin and Reid were both good helpers in carrying things and getting the roller mat cut to size :).

We arrived at Kalahari at noon and were able to get to our room right away, which was great! We got everything unpacked and got ready to head to the water  park. Once some other neighbors arrived they came to our room, as theirs weren’t ready yet. Then we all headed to the park together for some fun! After an initial loop around the (quite cool) lazy river Kevin and Griffin headed off with Cole and Brian. Some of the older kids headed off with other adults, and Reid and I made our way to the huge wave pool. Thankfully the water was much warmer and we were in the sunshine. We were there for a few hours and eventually ran in to other friends as they came and went from the wave pool. Later that night we all gathered for dinner at a restaurant at the park. Lisa brought a (surprise) birthday cake for my birthday and everyone sang to me. I actually blew out the candles (this was before the crazy pandemic was declared, I think!). It was a fun weekend!

My actual birthday was on a Monday this year. After work Kevin and the boys decorated the traditional bunny cake for me (and a fine job they did!) and then we headed to Dewey’s in Worthington for pizza. This is 44!

Griffin has been enjoying this session of Locker Soccer, which concluded this week. Even Reid gets out on the turf and in on the action pre and post class. Before the Order to close schools for an “extended spring break” was declared by Governor DeWine Griffin brought home another Pawsome note and some fine art work! Griffin and I enjoyed some tasty fresh snow one evening after we took Brutus for a walk in the dark. He was throwing snow balls in the air for Brutus to catch and our big Brutes was having quite a fun time racing through the white fluff.

Our last gathering of any kind was on Saturday, the 14th of March for our neighbor Jay’s birthday party at his house. Kevin and I were to have been in Chicago at a workshop, but due to the COVID-19 situation across the country the workshop was cancelled. So, we found ourselves at home which opened up the opportunity for us to celebrate with the Bolans. Then on Sunday, we gathered at the Bethune’s to celebrate birthdays for me, Griffin, and Amy. Mom and Dad brought a delicious taco dinner and homemade strawberry cake. We each opened gifts and practiced the earliest stages of social distancing by giving air hugs and air high fives. We were able to meet Nelly Rue for the first time and each of us took in some lovely puppy snuggles.

Later that night before going to bed I decorated the kitchen and Griffin’s doorway so when he awoke he would feel celebrated. I knew he likely wouldn’t be awake before I had to leave i the morning but I wanted him to know it was his special day. Every other year I’ve taken his birthday off work, but this year is a different story as we have a consultant in town for our shipping process changeover this week. Kevin sent me some cute pictures of Griffin once he was up and Daddy made him special pancakes for breakfast. I was at work and at about 9:25 I heard the front door open and then some familiar voices and all of a sudden – Griffin was in my office! Just in time for his official birth at 9:33 am :).  Such a thoughtful Daddy to bring him to see me at the perfect time. I showed those two our finished shipping building and then they were off for home. Later that night Kevin made Griffin’s favorite for dinner: filets and mac and cheese! This boy is definitely going through a growth spurt. He at an entire filet and then some.  The evening kind of vanished and we were having the boys get ready for bed – when Griffin kindly asked when we were going to do his presents.  YIKES!! We had done dinner, cake and ice cream and completely forgot to do presents.  My goodness, I couldn’t believe we would have forgotten had Griffin not so kindly inquired!!  Soo……a quick gathering of presents into the kitchen and we headed downstairs to do gifts.  This is 7!

We hosted our annual Spring Seminar at Millcreek this week as well. We had a record turnout of 80+ people. It was a challenge to get everyone in and the place laid out well for traffic flow for breakfast, lunch, and seminars! But, we did it and it was a beautiful day weather wise and lots of compliments from our customers who attended. Another one in the books.

January 16-31, 2020

Going back in time to put together some posts that I’m behind on. Our worries were far less back in January! Reid and I are up and at em early this morning I figured I’d go back and put together some blogs. As I look through these pictures from school it seems like such a long time ago! Now, granted I’m putting together a January post in late March, but still, even though the boys have been out of school for two weeks it seems like all that has happened with the Coronavirus and various orders within Ohio started such a long time ago!

Griffin and Reid play together quite often. Reid basically imitates anything Griffin does from words and conversations to running, jumping, or any other physical activity. Things go from fun and laughter to screaming and fits in an instant around here!

I  was able to volunteer at Tyler Run during the COSI on Wheels visit. I stepped up to the pH table and talked to the kiddos about the difference between acids and bases and did some hands on experiments with different liquids to determine if they were an acid or a base. It was a fun and fast afternoon! Griffin was excited to come to my table :).

Here Reid is playing in our refrigerator cubby in the kitchen. Our fridge has stopped keeping a consistent cool temperature. It fluctuates all over the place and unfortunately, the fix is to replace the entire cooling system which costs half as much as a new fridge. So the hunt is on for a new one, though it’s not as easy as you would think. It turns out our space is 33″ wide and most fridges are 35.75″ wide, ugh!

One afternoon I arrived home and Haya was cleaning up paper off the floor. I wasn’t sure what kind of activity they had done, but as it turns out she brought a balloon filled with confetti the color of which revealed whether she was having a boy or girl! She recorded a cute video asking each of the neighborhood kiddos what their thought was and then Griffin popped it with Reid sitting nearby. It was cute!

We celebrated Andy and Mom’s birthdays with dinner at Polaris Grill followed by dessert and presents at our house. We celebrated a bit early as Mom and Dad headed to Florida for the month of February! We also celebrated our neighbor Abbie’s birthday with a fun party at the Bolan’s house. Tons of kiddos played for quite a long time and little miss Abbie tore into her cake!

For Christmas I’d given Kevin an Order of the Moth membership at Nocterra, though honestly I forgot to give it to him, lol! Then I got a reminder of the Launch Party from Nocterra and gave him the belated gift. Thankfully I had it together enough to get a sitter back when I purchased it so we headed out for the launch party on a date night. We love hanging out at our community tap room!

Brutie is getting some love from all the Manning girls. I rode with Sarah to pickup Abbie from a retreat and the rest of the girls watched Griffin and Reid. It was a win-win for everyone.

This was a beautiful sunrise I captured upon leaving the driveway one morning en route to work. The picture isn’t nearly as pretty as it was in person, but you get the idea! This is Wyndbend.

The new office and restroom building inside our Shipping Facility is coming along quite nicely. Drywall is up and mudded!
