Our week started by continuing the Christmas celebration at Jim and Pat’s new house in Enon! We packed up our car with gifts and pups and headed there for some time to hang out together and enjoy a nice ham dinner. Dave, Steve, and Cookie joined as well and of course Uncle Brett and Aunt Missy were there too. Their house is really coming along – almost all the floor has been laid and the kitchen cabinets are now in. The counters are temporary but served their purpose quite well for the Christmas gathering.

Griffin helped to decorate Grandma and Grandpa’s Christmas tree – he really enjoys putting ornaments on the tree. He even got to add the tree topper!
Uncle Dave also asked Finn if he wanted to go and help feed the horses – of course he did! So Kevin, Finn, and Dave left for a bit and Finn loved it. He came back SO excited.  On Tuesday Griffin and I headed to Mansfield with Lily and Brutus for a quick one-night trip while the Bethune’s were still there. Brutus isn’t loving his crate at night for the first half hour or so. He whimpers and howls and barks! But then he settles down and goes to sleep. That night I heard him around 3 am and decided to let him cry it out – wrong! I went down in the morning to find a very messy crate – blech! I won’t make that mistake again!! So we started our day off with a bath right about 6:30 am 🙂  He is just a really big snuggler and loves to be around people at all times. When he sleeps he has to lay on your feet, not just at your feet. He constantly follows me around like a shadow and gets so happy when you bend down to pet him.  We also ventured downstairs to the seed room to check the progress of the hosta seeds we planted at Thanksgiving. Many are doing quite well and Finn enjoying pointing to the trays he wanted to look at so that Grandpa could bring them over and they could take the top off and see the plants. Lots of different colors and leaf shapes! Griffin loves to cuddle and snuggle with Brutus.  Brutus regularly finds a carpet or fluffy dog bed to lay on. We decided on Friday to move his crate to our room so that perhaps he wouldn’t whine so much. He loves it much better and usually just whimpers for a minute when you put him in his crate (he is NOT yet fond of going in there!) then he goes to sleep. The first night he slept 7 straight hours – no middle of the night potty breaks. We think he just wants to be where everyone else is 🙂 He regularly comes to my side of the bed if I’m in my room and lays on the carpet right next to me. That is, after he puts his front feet up on the bed to be sure I know he’s there.  Our neighbor, Brian, invited us to his house for New Years Eve so we happily headed over. Griffin loves to play with Cooper and Cole, and Abbie (another neighbor across the street) and her parents were there too. We watched the embarrassing OSU bowl game (yikes) and ALL of the kids made it past midnight to watch the ball drop. Several of Brian and Lisa’s family were there and there was quite the spread of food. We really enjoyed it – and the short walk home! I even came home once to let the dogs out in the evening, it was great! Lily is getting more and more used to Brutus.  They will sometimes share a bed and from time to time Lily will walk up to Brutus and want to play.  She still growls and shows her teeth to show him who is boss. Oh, and she gets a bit snarky and jumps on the couch and onto the pillows right in front of him since she knows he isn’t allowed up. I think they’ll become good buds before long.  As 2016 comes to a close we have much to reflect on and be thankful for. We look forward to the new year and what 2017 has in store!

IMG_5612This week we got our hands dirty as we planted our yearly crop of seeds that we will transplant later outside in our patio garden. We also planted Finn’s Root Vue Farm (from grandma and grandpa Beilstein) this week too. Finn went back and forth between loving the messiness (“mom, it’s fun to get dirty sometimes”) to not being a big fan (insert whining and fussiness to get his hands cleaned off). I got everything all prepped while Finn was taking a nap and after he woke up and made it through his cuddle time (he’s been big into cuddling when he first wakes up, he just wants to be held) we started our project. He wasn’t as interested in it this year as after about 15 minutes he just wanted to go play! But, in the end we had 4 trays of seeds including quite the variety of veggies (cucumber, zucchini, tomato, pepper, butternut squash), herbs (green onion, cilantro, basil seedlings), and fruits (watermelon, cantaloupe), flowers and ornamentals (cosmos, zinnia, snapdragon, pumpkins, mini pumpkins).  Our counters have been overtaken by seedling trays!IMG_5607 IMG_5608 IMG_5610 IMG_5612 IMG_5614 IMG_5616 IMG_5619 IMG_5625 IMG_5627 IMG_5628 IMG_5631 IMG_5632 DSC_0804 DSC_0794-3 DSC_0796-3 DSC_0806 DSC_0808 DSC_0817 DSC_0811 DSC_0814 DSC_0815 DSC_0818 DSC_0820This week Finn also ventured to the pet store with Debbie and Sam.  He loves animals, check out his grins! And of course one pic with his Lily girl and blue dog blanket.  It’s become part of the routine that he cuddles with Lily at bedtime while we sing songs.  And the blue blanket – he doesn’t like to sleep without it, and the soft, blue side always has to be the side that is against him :). IMG_5598 IMG_5597 IMG_5596 IMG_5601IMG_5644

We’ve had another week full of family fun and traditions!  Our first mission was to cover the greenhouse at mom and dad’s during our Thanksgiving weekend visit. The weather was unseasonably warm and nice this year!  Dad, Kevin, and I covered the house in good time and little wind – we even snapped some photos this year. IMG_2807 IMG_2808 IMG_2811 IMG_2812Next up was taking a little spin (and drive!) in dad’s new MG TD! First, dad drove me on a quick errand down the street to the drugstore. Then, Kevin, Finn, and I took a little spin around the neighborhood.  I drove first, then Kevin took a turn. It drove really nice and was quite fun!IMG_2814 IMG_2817 IMG_2820

The kiddos played and acted silly together while the “adults” worked on packaging up the seed orders for this years Hostaworks Seed sale. It was a banner year! It was certainly a family effort, from the web design, order process, order tracking, label printing, seed sorting, order assembling, and packaging – we got it done in really good time! This is the first time, I think ever, that I didn’t plant seeds with dad.  The days just went too fast and there weren’t enough hours in the day 🙁IMG_2828 IMG_2833 IMG_2835 IMG_2836 IMG_2839 IMG_2840

Finn got a new cot to sleep on at Grandma and Grandpa Beilstein’s this trip! It was the first couple of nights he’s not been in a pack-n-play (sigh, tears) as our boy is getting pretty big!IMG_2843 IMG_2868On Thanksgiving morning the kids helped make breakfast – little egg nests! A bit later we headed to Enon for the Armstrong Thanksgiving at Gayle and Dave’s home. The weather was so warm and sunny – it was unusual and nice!IMG_2844 IMG_2845 IMG_2846 IMG_2848 IMG_2851 IMG_2852 IMG_2853IMG_2838 IMG_2855 IMG_2856 IMG_2857 IMG_2858 IMG_2859 IMG_2861 IMG_2862 IMG_2865And then a later dinner at the Beilstein’s before a quick nights sleep and then on to Black Friday Shopping! We started with our traditional breakfast at Bob Evans followed by a full day of shopping at Polaris and Easton. We capped the night with dinner at Bon Vie – yum!IMG_3229IMG_3230IMG_2870IMG_2871IMG_2872IMG_2873IMG_2884IMG_2885 Saturday we spent the afternoon at Chad’s house watching the OSU-Michigan game. He and the kids have a new puppy that Finn loved following around and petting. IMG_2893 IMG_2895Next up: Christmas Tree Expedition 2015.  We went to Cackler Farms again this year and found a lovely tree! Kevin and Finn worked hard cutting it down, only to find it had poison ivy vines growing up the trunk through the tree.  Yikes!  So we left that tree in the field (and told the staff there why) and kept searching…..and we found yet another 13′ beauty (of course ensuring it didn’t have poison ivy before we cut it down!).  Finn was a really great helper!
