DSC_0405Our little man likes to read books.  And he likes to be independent.  Lately it’s been a bit of both. Saturday I asked Finn if he wants to read books – I said “do you want mama to read you a book” and in this case he said, “no, mama, self” and took up a spot on our rug in the front hallway. It’s one of his more favorite spots to lay down on the floor with the “pilpow” (aka pillow) and lately he’s all about reading books by himself.  It’s kind of cute, actually, to watch him flip through the pages and mutter words or count numbers.

Our week was a pretty low-key, uneventful one. On Friday Finn began having a bit of a chest cough, and unfortunately on Saturday he had a slight fever, runny nose, and was pretty fussy, whiny, and clingy.  We spent the morning lounging around as a family and he actually fell asleep on our bed for his nap, about 2 hours earlier than normal.  I don’t think he’s slept in our room since he was about 3 months old! It was sweet, as he fell asleep on me, and I loved every bit of the cuddles. Though I don’t love how I look here, I want to remember the cuddles!IMG_20150214_130946104_HDRDSC_0356IMG_20150214_140319385_HDRLater that afternoon he was feeling a bit better and we all sat down to enjoy the Valentine’s cupcakes Kevin brought home. Yummers! Here are the many cute faces of Finn eating his. His blue eyes look so beautiful here – no touchups!DSC_0387 DSC_0382 DSC_0384 DSC_0388 DSC_0389 DSC_0391 DSC_0392 DSC_0395 DSC_0397Kevin brought me a beautiful flower arrangement which smells wonderful and really looks pretty in our kitchen. And Finn made me a necklace (he put every bead on the string all by himself!) and Kevin a clay heart that he painted this week with Debbie. She also helped him make us a card. She always does the most thoughtful arts and crafts with him and he really enjoys it, and we really appreciate it!DSC_0366 DSC_0401 DSC_0400 DSC_0399Earlier in the week Finn and I made Valentine heart-shaped cookies one night. He really has fun and wants to help every time I bake something. He gets a chair from the kitchen table and pushes it all the way over to the island in our regular “spot” to begin helping me. IMG_20150211_195407157 IMG_20150211_195415844 IMG_20150211_195419156_HDR IMG_20150211_195452328 IMG_20150211_201802554He was really fussy and whiny today too and wouldn’t take a nap unless one of us held him, then he would fall asleep on us. But if we tried to put him down he would scream and cry. We’re hoping he wakes up tomorrow feeling better and on the mend. He went to bed about an hour earlier than normal tonight.

And here are some of Finn being silly this week as he enclosed himself in a box from Amazon, hides behind the curtains, and being silly with daddy and giving Lily some love. IMG_20150210_195248776 DSC_0411 DSC_0407 DSC_0354 DSC_0352

IMG_20141205_195158326Our week started out on a rough note, as Finn woke up Monday morning with a fever and runny nose.  Grandma and Grandpa Armstrong were here to watch him that day, which we had planned awhile back, and thankfully they were able to stay Tuesday and Wednesday too – as Debbie wasn’t able to find care for Sammy, and we certainly didn’t want him to catch this bug! Unfortunately, later in the week Grandma and Grandpa both ended up catching the bug too and Kevin had a bug also – though not the same as Griffin.  Ugh! Thankfully I was able to ward off the germs.  This is really the first time Finn has been sick, other than the ear infections he had back in January/February. He hasn’t ever had a runny/snotty nose and fever.  Poor guy, he woke up in the mornings with his entire upper lip crusted over.  When I would try to clean it off, he would cry, and then turn super cute and say “hi mamma, hi mamma, hi mamma” while trying to touch my face. He certainly has a good distraction strategy in place.  We spent lots of time taking baths too, which made him quite happy. IMG_20141205_080049248 IMG_20141203_185116953 IMG_20141203_185310890 IMG_20141203_185548638 DSC_0308

Our week was pretty uneventful otherwise, until Sunday when we decorated our tree and began the elf on the shelf tradition.  “Alfred” (aka ALF-Raaad if you are Finn)  made his appearance and Griffin loved hugging on him while we read him the book.  Griffin “hung” the first ornament on our tree – a photo from this year’s trip to Pigeon Forge, TN. He was really proud 🙂DSC_0311 DSC_0315 DSC_0317 DSC_0318 DSC_0327 DSC_0331 DSC_0334 DSC_0338 DSC_0341 DSC_0355 DSC_0364 DSC_0366 DSC_0372 DSC_0320 DSC_0323 DSC_0322 DSC_0376 DSC_0379 DSC_0380 DSC_0396 DSC_0397

Can you find Alfred?!DSC_0401 DSC_0406 DSC_0409 DSC_0419 DSC_0424 DSC_0426And here are a few other photos from the week. Poor quality as they are from my phone.  Finn stepped into my shoes one night, and Kevin’s the next. He proceeded to walk in his room and the kitchen – and he was pretty successful! And Debbie has been doing all kinds of Christmas drawing and painting crafts too – Griffin loves to paint (peet) and draw. The last photo is fuzzy, but cute, as Finn was “making doggy feel better” by cleaning out his nose with the snot sucker!IMG_20141205_184300894 IMG_20141205_195310166 photo (51)

DSC_1256Wow, how can it be September already?! Fall is my favorite time of year, I just can’t believe it is already here. Good thing we hit the sprinkler park one last time!

We ended last week with Rowan’s 3rd birthday party and my dad took several really good pics of the kiddos and all the activity – so I wanted to share them, here they are!DSC_0965 DSC_0966 DSC_0052 DSC_0021 DSC_0003 DSC_0057 DSC_0062 DSC_0094 DSC_0139 DSC_0168 DSC_0169 DSC_0175

We’ve had quite a fun (and tiring!) week around here. Debbie, Finn, and Sammy spent lots of time outdoors playing in the water and drawing on the driveway. I kicked off my four-day weekend by taking Finn to pick raspberry’s at a local farm.  He did really well and in the beginning he ate so many berries right off the plants! By the end he was really tired and ready for an early bedtime. He’s been teething this week (his upper molars have finally poked through) and he hasn’t been napping very well during the day. He is, however, sleeping really well at night. photo (43) photo (44) photo (46) photo (47)DSC_1178 DSC_1181 DSC_1182 DSC_1196 DSC_1198 DSC_1200 DSC_1204 DSC_1202 DSC_1209I was able to take Friday off and go to a play date at Columbus Commons and the Fountains at the Scioto Mile. Debbie, Sammy, Finn and I packed up the car and headed downtown for an afternoon of fun. The boys had a great time. They didn’t venture very far into the sprinklers, but they had a blast! And the Commons had free carousel rides, kids activities, and the boys enjoyed a pizza and ice cream lunch with the whole group. When we arrived home, Kevin had a nice surprise for Finn in the backyard – a bounce house! Finn thought it was great (as he wasn’t big enough to go in the one downtown). Kevin surprised us all with the bounce house – it was to be the fun for the kiddos for our Labor Day cookout. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the cookout, as Finn picked up the Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease virus which reared itself for the over the weekend. I enjoyed some girls fun later Friday night – it was a fun day! DSC_1225 DSC_1228 DSC_1237 DSC_1235 DSC_1240 DSC_1243 DSC_1251 DSC_1257 DSC_1263 DSC_1270 DSC_1273girls night_1girls night_2Saturday, we ventured off to the Richwood Independent Fair with the Ackerman’s. Chad is from the area and has family who farms and show animals. It’s a small, and cute, fair. One of Finn’s favorite words currently is “tractor” (tak ta) and he delighted in climbing all over them! It was a nice day filled with plants, animals, friends, and food!DSC_1317 DSC_1278 DSC_1307 DSC_1282 DSC_1286 DSC_1288 DSC_1291 DSC_1297 DSC_1301 DSC_1331 DSC_1339Since we were rather house-bound due to Finn’s virus, we worked tirelessly to unpack all of our kitchen belongings and settle in to our new digs! I can’t even count how many hours it took or how many bins we unpacked or how many dishwasher loads we ran through on the express wash (thank heaven for 30 minute cycles!). Finn happens to love our step stool and even more so he enjoys having his play yard back upstairs. He was so upset when Kevin kept going to the basement to put tools away or put things in storage – he cried every time because he wanted to go down and play!DSC_1340DSC_1210 DSC_1341 DSC_1345

BUT, we are loving our new kitchen! And we celebrated our first meal with mom and dad, who came down for dinner anyhow! We enjoyed a small-scale cookout and tested out both of the ovens – one for mom’s corn pudding and the other mom and I made the first batch of chocolate chip cookies.  Worked like a charm! We’re mostly unpacked in the kitchen and the pantry, though there are a few details that still need wrapped up: a couple of cabinets to install, crown molding at the ceiling, toe kicks in a few places, a couple of drawer pulls, floor trim, painting the walls, light fixtures, backsplash, close up the basement ceiling, and the list goes on – but we couldn’t be happier! We are excited to stick around home base this week and make some meals 🙂 Come on over anytime – we even have a fully functioning bathroom on the first floor – yippee! Please forgive the dark photos – it seems I only remember to take photos after the sun has gone down!DSC_1357 DSC_1366 DSC_1375 DSC_1377 DSC_1378 DSC_1379 DSC_1384 DSC_1373 DSC_1219 DSC_1365 DSC_1360 DSC_1361 DSC_1359 DSC_1221
