This guy really enjoys his meal time! He’s been trying out all kinds of flavors over the last few weeks. His favorite is pumpkin, apple, peach, and cinnamon – it’s kind of like pumpkin pie! His mid-afternoon lunch is the meal he eats the most. I’m often amazed at how much he eats when I read what Debbie puts in the app. He usually eats two pouches, several pieces of pears (another favorite) and other fruit, peas and corn (both he seems to like also). He’s drinking both formula and breastmilk mixed together most times but we’ve also given him just formula if we’re on the go and he’s ok with that too.
Kevin’s work schedule is still pretty heavy so he often leaves early in the morning and gets home after both kids are in bed. On this night he got home while it was still light out and Reid hadn’t gone to bed yet (so it was before 7!) so we captured a happy photo.
Griffin was so excited to have his Daddy come to Dads and Donuts at preschool this week. They began with an early morning breakfast at Bob Evans with piggy pancakes and sausage. At school Griffin loved showing Kevin all around his classroom, playing dinosaurs, playing connect four (a hit!), and giving him the tie that he colored for him. Miss Laura also read each child’s paper about their Dad.
One of Griffin’s classmates, Riley, had a birthday party at Recreations Outlet in Powell on Sunday. He is one of four boys in his class this year (16 girls) so the party was mostly girls and a princess theme! But he really loved playing all kinds of sports for an hour or so and climbing all over the playsets and jumping on the trampoline.
Locker Soccer continues on Tuesday’s with Coach Aaron. Griffin really enjoys the different drills that they do and of course getting a stamp at the end of the session. Toward the end of the season session they give out goal cards about the kids progress that also has a free smoothie card on it from Planet Smoothie. This week we headed right from soccer to Planet Smoothie for a treat. I really like how the coach the classes at Locker Soccer and the philosophy of the kids learning through having fun rather than by strict drills and rule following. Finn has been testing pushing back the last couple weeks at home when he’s been asked to do things or given instructions. It’s interesting to see how he also does the same here and there at soccer yet Coach Aaron doesn’t draw attention to it. He just does little things like rather than sitting in the team stretch circle he will sit farther away against the wall and do his stretches there. Then after a few minutes he usually joins all the others. He’s typically pretty shy so it’s interesting to see him do his own thing in a group setting.
Driveway hockey continues on Wyndbend. These kids (and Brian) sure love to play together.
And here are a few from Finn’s days at home this week. He baked some cupcakes with Debbie and made crossants. We also had a Power Rangers photo session to get his birthday party invite put together!
And here is one more of my store helper. I ran to Target early on Sunday morning and Finn wanted to come with me. We took the Jeep with newly installed car seats for a short trip.

August 27, 2017 ~ 14 weeks
Yet another picture of our happy boy Reid! Look at that smile and those cheeks 🙂 He is becoming so much more active with his arms and legs as well as his babbling conversation! If he wakes up and no one is around or he is covered up in the car seat with the covering he will often cry almost a scared cry. But as soon as he sees me or a familiar face and voice he often settles without even being picked up. He has been spending time on his activity mat and he’s doing really well getting his legs up in the air at the same time.
This week I’ve headed back to work on a part time schedule working on Tuesday and Wednesday. There is plenty for me to do there with our annual Open House coming up on September 8th, plus I’ve been gone quite awhile. I’m grateful for the 13 weeks I had at home. My emotions are all over the place about returning to work. At times I’m happy about it and have lots of excitement to get back to my role and tackling new goals for the company. Other the other hand I love being home and want to just be home all the time. Or at least some of the time. I feel like an emotional train wreck here and there and Kevin can attest to my periodic crying spells. When Tuesday morning rolled around I was sad to leave. However, throughout the day Debbie put several photos in the app of Reid and Griffin which brightened my day. They made delicious Chocolate Reese Chip cookies – yummers! And the day passed quickly and I looked forward to heading home and taking Griffin to his first soccer lesson of the fall season. He had a great time and it was fun to see how much more excited he seemed and how he’s advanced so much since he last took lessons a year and a half ago!
This week was the solar eclipse, which was disappointing at our house! Griffin came home from the zoo and I’d made a pinhole viewer but it was cloudy skies around here. So I captured the images from the TV :).
We’ve had beautiful weather and I’ve enjoyed sitting outside with Reid and Griffin. Griffin loves to be outside as much as possible and he likes to ride his bike on the driveway. I wish our dogs would just stick around and not wander away, but unfortunately, that’s not the case! So when I go out I’ll often take one or the other on a leash for them to hang in the driveway with me. Here Finn took Brutus around to explore a bit.
Mornings around here are for snuggles. And picture taking apparently as I think a majority of photos I seem to take have the background of our sheets in them! In any case, Griffin especially loves to snuggle in the morning and he loves to hold his brother and talk to him and tell him how cute he is.
We ventured to Delaware this week and ate at 12 West for dinner followed by Whit’s for dessert (for me and Finn at least :)). We took our family photo outside on the bench that Kevin and I had our engagement photos taken on after we’d picked up some Whit’s custard as well. Oh the memories!
And this is a frequent scene. These two play together all the time. Sometimes quite and other times so noisy I can’t stand it! And Lily is super quick to snap at Brutus in reaction to his nibbling her neck or hind quarters to get her fired up. It’s pretty comical to watch sometimes actually.
Griffin is really particular when he colors as of late. He enjoys taking his time and coloring very neatly, often with several colors per object like the bird and flower below. This is from his coloring during church on Sunday. Recently he’s taken to staying with us during the service and coloring his papers!
Sunday I had to go to Millcreek to take care of a couple of things so I took Finn with me. He’s always a good helper and likes playing at my desk. I didn’t realize until recently that he knows the name of my work. He’s been saying “when can we go to Millcreek and ride a golf cart?” or “when are you going to Millcreek”. It’s so funny to hear him say the name. I don’t know why I didn’t figure he knew it or paid attention to it. Just another sign that he’s growing up!
May 29, 2016
Well, this was a big week as Finn wrapped up his first year of pre-school as a Guppy! He really enjoyed school this year. He like going to the “muscle room” to play, the art work, being around the other kids. Yikes, 8 months are gone in a flash. His last day was on a Wednesday, and fortunately, I was able to take the day off work. I took Finn to school, picked him up, and we headed downtown big city to have lunch with Daddy at our place Si Senor. We also walked around the city a bit and walked Daddy back to his work building. We explored around inside a bit too, there is a really nice atrium that connects the buildings, and Finn had an ice cream treat.
Earlier in the week Debbie was off for a couple of days, so my sister was kind enough to watch Griffin on Monday. She picked him up from pre-school, along with the other kiddos and they had a fun afternoon playing in bear-suits and being silly. My mom came down later that night and we had dinner and then headed to Graeter’s for dessert, of course! Then on Tuesday mom stayed home and played with Finn for the day. Super thankful our families are always helping us when we need it!
Tuesday was also Finn’s last soccer lesson for this session. He really loved running around and learning a bit about soccer. They also work on motor skills, listening, and various athletic skills too. Some of these photos are fuzzy, but they show him having fun nonetheless. And at the last lesson Kevin went out and played a game of “sharks and minnows” at the end of the class. It was a beautiful night so we celebrated with dinner on the patio at Liberty Tavern, where Finn likes to get his picture taken next to the Statue of Liberty.
We’ve been playing outside a fair bit lately since the weather has been so nice. Finn was hitting balls off the tee and after a bit we decided to pitch to him. He has a really solid swing (and an accurate throw for his age too!) and made contact several times with the ball. I took a video and he missed the ball the first video I shot, so I figured I would take another. And here is what happened:
Kevin was fine, Finn was pretty concerned and stood there like a statue for a minute until we told him it was OK and that Daddy was fine. For the next several night during prayers Finn would pray “thank you for Daddy not getting hurt and next time maybe he covers his face or gets out of the way”. We’ve considered submitting to America’s Funniest Home Videos…… 🙂
