July 8, 2018

On Tuesday I was immersed at work in payroll calculations and up against a deadline due to the July 4th holiday. I was on a tight timeline and had much to do to meet my cutoff so I closed my office door in order to lessen my distractions and interruptions. I put in my ear buds and went to work. I heard some chatter on the radio about a grower meeting but didn’t pay any attention to it, really.  Then at 10:15 there was a knock at my door, and Fred said “hey, George wanted to have a meeting to introduce Jenn Sizemore (our new Controller who started the previous day)”.  I was like, “Oh, ok?”.  He followed that up with “he didn’t say anything to you about it?”  “No”, I replied and hopped up out of my seat and headed out the door to our shipping warehouse . . . . where I quickly realized it was not a “meeting”, lol. It was a celebration for my 20-year work anniversary.  I was totally duped – I had no idea! Turns out the timing of me closing my door worked out quite well for all of the behind the scenes setup that went on! Once I walked out the door I sensed something and turned to my left and saw Kevin standing there with a smile on his face and a huge flower arrangement! I had no idea he knew, or that he would be there, obviously. I must admit, I put all of these “surprise” celebrations together for our employees and take care of all of the details, food, gifts, etc., so part of me wondered if anyone would even remember! And the night before I mentioned that to Kevin, along the sarcastic lines of “I wonder if I should plan my own party?”. So I felt rather guilty that next afternoon when he was standing there amongst all of the Millcreek Team who had put it all together behind the scenes. So, needless to say I was caught off guard and embarrassed and felt guilty. But it was a nice celebration where George gave some background on me and my 20 year history at Millcreek and what I’ve done in that time. Then we all ate fruit and cookies and cake :). It was rather funny that at the end, one of our returning seasonals came up to me and said “I wasn’t even born yet when you started working here”.  Ha, thanks Jon!

And I got a new computer this week – a laptop and two new large monitors. Quite a nice setup! On Tuesday when I came home it began pouring rain. So I sat in my car for a few minutes hoping to wait it out as I had flowers things to take in from work. Finn was so excited to be outside playing in the rain. He rode his bike, jumped in puddles, and made rain angles!

Good old Brutes. And Google, thanks for the doggy video.

On Friday Finn had his dental check up – this time we learned he has two cavities :(. So, we’re going to get those fixed once we’re back from vacation. But, in the mean time we headed to Zoombeezi day for an afternoon of fun since I had the afternoon off work. It was lots of fun and the lazy river was our favorite.  And here is Reid, doing a balancing act in his bed. He does this from time to time and just babbles in his room. And there he is emptying out the cabinets….. Trying to get this one to wear a hat is no easy feat! For Finn’s baseball game I ended up putting sunscreen on his head and it easily made his hair keep a mohawk. This week Aunt Amy, Uncle Andy, and the cousins came to watch Finn play baseball! And Finn won a medal this week too, it was lots of fun.  Saturday afternoon my OU friends got together for a family pool party at Jaime’s house in Dublin. Sadly, our friend Amy was sick and unable to come with her family. But we all enjoyed an afternoon of swimming and eating! The kids had a lot of fun together going back and forth from the hot tub to the swimming pool. Seems hard to believe it was 20 years ago this summer we graduated! Sunday’s after church we usually head to Costco where we stock up for the week and Kevin rides the cart in the parking lot. Reid was pretty tired this day and he kept laying his head down on Finn’s shoulder. So sweet.

DSC_0241What a week of adventure I had with this little man! I was home this week from work and had such a lovely time with Finn. We headed out on many adventures, starting on Sunday with the Concert in Scioto Park. We joined Amy, Andy, and the kids for the Philip Fox Band show. It was a great night for a concert and the kiddos had lots of fun dancing and playing together. And the band was pretty good too! DSC_0007 DSC_0015 DSC_0019 DSC_0025 DSC_0035 DSC_0040 DSC_0041 DSC_0045 DSC_0051 DSC_0053 DSC_0057 DSC_0061 IMG_20140629_195229932 IMG_20140629_195235873Monday we met Amy and the kids at the Rec Center in Dublin, and as Graham had his swim lesson, the rest of us did a little swimming ourselves! Finn loved it and I was only sort of (ok a lot of) a helicopter mom in the water! He loved walking all around and going down the water slide. We also did several laps through the lazy river. He was pretty worn out and took an almost 4 hour nap in the afternoon! After that we went to the zoo, only to learn they closed earlier than I thought so we ended the night at the park and daddy joined us there. DSC_0065 DSC_0066 DSC_0080 DSC_0083 DSC_0092 DSC_0098 DSC_0101We joined Kevin toward the end of the World Cup soccer game on Tuesday. Finn had just awoken from a nap, and with the screaming and cheering he was a bit scared and cried the first few times, but by the end of the night he was clapping along 🙂IMG_20140701_182333006We’ve had some late nights, which means sleep in and lazy mornings.  It’s going to be rough getting up so early to go back to work this week! But on the bright side, our summer office hours are now until 4 pm, so I’ll be getting home earlier! Every morning Finn loves to read several “buhh’s”. This particular morning I think we read Every Friday about 5 times in a row!20140702_082709Since Finn likes being outdoors and touching plants, I figured it would be fun to head to the Franklin Park Conservatory. We made an evening adventure there in hopes of making it for the butterfly release, but we arrived after that. We actually didn’t see too many butterflies, probably less than 10! But we had fun walking all around, watching glass blowing, and checking out the large “balls” in the gardens. DSC_0121 DSC_0124 DSC_0130 DSC_0136 DSC_0141 DSC_0146 DSC_0151 DSC_0156 DSC_0166 DSC_0168 DSC_0174 DSC_0186This year we headed down to Red, White, and Boom on Thursday to watch the bands on Bicentennial Stage. Holywell, a band of which some of the members are from our church, had a slot in the afternoon and we enjoyed hearing them play. We were able to stay from mid-afternoon until the fireworks, with a little nap in the car for Finn at one point.  It was actually pretty breezy and rather chilly this year, definitely glad we took our jackets! The overhead airplanes and helicopters were a big hit too – check out how much Finn is looking upward in the photos below! Just before the fireworks began Kevin took Finn to get a flashing scepter, which he thought was great. We enjoyed about 15 minutes of the fireworks prior to heading out before the end to beat the mad traffic. DSC_0191 DSC_0196 DSC_0203 DSC_0211 DSC_0212 DSC_0213 DSC_0217 IMG_20140703_200314428 DSC_0222 DSC_0234 DSC_0237 DSC_0250 IMG_20140703_213551077 DSC_0254 DSC_0255 IMG_20140703_214118116 DSC_0270 DSC_0280We think Finn may not be far from getting more teeth as has become a slobber box and is chewing on his fingers alot. I’ve looked all around in there and I can’t feel anything!  He is also really attached to his bottled. The pediatrician recommended getting him off the bottle, which we’ve attempted, but he won’t drink milk (in any quantity) from a sippy cup. He takes a few sips and that’s it. Then he says “wa wa”.  However, if you give him a bottle, he will down 6 or 7 ounces in one sitting.  Can’t seem to figure that one out, so for now, he’s still getting his way with the bottle (and donuts to celebrate the 4th!). IMG_20140704_093850380We all headed to the Zoo on the 4th for a short stroll through the new Heart of Africa. We saw the cheetah’s and several giraffe’s up close! We saw even more fireworks as we headed over to the Mehta’s and then onward to the Dublin Fireworks. We made it just in time and had a pretty good view!DSC_0308 DSC_0293 DSC_0298 DSC_0304 DSC_0305 DSC_0307IMG_20140704_221147112Saturday we made a surprise visit to Bama and Beepa’s house to check in on their Hosta Sale. We enjoyed a nice afternoon chatting and hanging out outside and then went to dinner.  I forgot to take any photos of the “hosta sale” area before they tore everything down, so we did a quick selfie or two instead. DSC_0324 DSC_0321This week on the remodeling project: flooring. And more flooring! Most of the kitchen area is finished, as well as the hall to the garage/laundry, and the laundry room. Kevin also started putting up the wainscoting in the laundry room too. We’ve also ordered the kitchen cabinets and drawers – so we’re looking at about 2 weeks or so until they arrive. DSC_0114 DSC_0120 DSC_0317 DSC_0313 DSC_0309 DSC_0310 DSC_0311
