November 5, 2017 ~ 24 weeks

I woke up on Saturday morning and discovered that Reid has gotten his first tooth! His lower left has just broken through his gums. He is really not bothered but it certainly explains all the drool and the stuffy nose and congestion he’s had over the last week or two.

On Monday I visited Finn at preschool for the Book Character Week Parade. His Monkey class portrayed the raccoon from the book The Kissing Hand. It was fun to surprise him and see the kids all parade around the room and all of the parents gawking at our kids, ha!

On Tuesday, ironically Trick or Treat night, both Griffin and I had dental check ups. He checked out really well with healthy teeth and no cavities. Since it was Halloween all of the office staff were dressed up, even Dr. Bob! I visited a new dental office for my first visit ever to an office that wasn’t my Dad’s! I, on the other hand, had two cavities 🙁  Not too bad I guess for not having had regular check ups over the last several years. Later that evening Jim and Pat came up for our traditional Trick or Treat night. Sam and Debbie stayed for pizza and trick or treating with the rest of our neighborhood crew. Reid wore Finn’s Astronaut costume, which I didn’t even try on him until it was time to put him in it to leave. It happened to fit perfectly – thank goodness. He’s a super cute astronaut to go along with his big brother who was a Storm Trooper. The kids this year were so FAST! They ran from house to house at full speed and we hit each house in our neighborhood in about an hour and a half. A great night of fun. Kevin mentioned to me the next day how much he really enjoyed just walking our neighborhood and watching Griffin have such fun and joy. I couldn’t agree more! He had a fun time.  Debbie snapped this pic of some tummy time this week. Sweet Brutus just loves to be close.  We attended the calling hours and funeral of our friend Chad’s step-dad who passed away after a long fight with cancer. He was a really well known and respected farmer who was heavily involved in different organizations and in the community. The turnout at the calling hours and funeral was incredible, we waited an hour and 45 minutes in line and we didn’t arrive until 7 pm, three hours into the calling hours. The funeral procession also drove through his farm en route to the cemetery where a combine had been placed as well. We certainly have wonderful memories of our visit to their farm in the fall of 2014 when we rode in a combine with Dave. He taught us about farming and showed us much about how the combines work.
Reid now sleeps in only a warm sleeper or a long sleeve onesie and a sleep sack. Since he is no longer being swaddled he definitely prefers to sleep on his belly, just like Griffin. I’m also becoming increasingly aware that I’ve encouraged poor sleep habits. He will not fall asleep without his pacifier and if it pops out and he wakes up he is not able to get himself back to sleep without it (since I’ve long been popping it back in when I hear him wrestle and cry). Having him near me in our room has been great but I’m beginning to think we should have moved him to his own room a month or more ago as he now is very aware when he is alone and he really can’t get himself to sleep on his own at all. If I put him down still awake it always ends in screaming and crying or if I put him down nearly asleep he will often startle and wake up and I’ll have to start over again. Ugh. Much to work on in the coming weeks.  Here are a few others of me trying to snap a pic of his first tooth. He’s too quick so most of these are a bit blurry and it’s pretty hard to see a white spot on his gums! Griffin had school pictures this week too and Kevin snapped this pic in the morning before he left for school. I like putting in pictures of some of his school work so that we can go back and see how much he has improved over time. This week it was all about pumpkins! On Friday we joined my parents and the Bethune’s for dinner at The Spaghetti Warehouse. I didn’t get too many photos other than this one of Finn showing us how he likes to eat his noodles.

IMG_20151029_184655313This past week at school was book character week. Finn’s classroom book was ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?’ and his character from the book was the brown bear.  Throughout the week at school each of the kids painted and decorated a mask which they wore as they paraded around pre-school to show the other classes.  Cute, eh?

We celebrated Lily’s 7th birthday with a party hat, cake pops, and a sprinkle donut. We sang her happy birthday next to Cammie as it’s difficult for her to get up and stand on our wood floors these days.  They enjoyed their treats and Lily has been loving her new toy, a red ball which she drops out of her mouth and chases pretty regularly. IMG_20151028_171605573~2-2 IMG_20151028_171617238_TOP-2

We are enjoying having new neighbors. Since June we’ve gotten two new neighbors – Brian and Laura live right next door and have two little boys Cooper (4) and Cole (2). It has been great for Finn to have play buddies right outside our house! And a short bit later Bernie, Alex and their daughter Abbie (7) moved in right across the street. This year for Trick or Treat, Sam and Debbie came over and we adventured through the neighborhood with Brian, Laura, Cooper and Cole, and our other neighbors Nathan and AJ and their son Blake. It was a lot of fun to see all of the boys run up to each of the houses.  All of the dads pulled the wagons (thank goodness we used them, it still took about an hour and a half just to do our street!) and the kids got out at each stop. There is no way the kids would have made it more than 5 houses if they walked the whole thing! Grandma and Grandpa Armstrong came up to hand out candy at our house and spend time with Griffin. They kindly put him to bed so we could go down to Nathan and AJ’s and hang out for a bit on their patio, making s’mores around their fire pit and enjoying some beverages. It was a really nice evening!IMG_20151101_185112 IMG_20151031_180729227 DSC_0033 DSC_0046 DSC_0048 DSC_0054 DSC_0056 IMG_20151101_185435 DSC_0058 DSC_0063 DSC_0061IMG_20151101_204631238On Sunday we stopped at the Zoo on the way home from church. As you can see, it was a warm and sunny day – perfect for walking around outside. We had lots of firsts during this visit: 1st time Finn rode a pony, 1st time to feed the giraffe’s, and the 1st time we saw the baby lions!IMG_20151101_125005812-2 IMG_20151101_131309531_TOP-2 IMG_20151101_150546003-2 IMG_20151101_150551609-2 IMG_20151101_141310577_HDR-2 IMG_20151101_141543163

And this was Finn by the end of the afternoon – holding his head up for a photo, and then crashing on daddy’s shoulder!IMG_20151101_153907200 IMG_20151101_153902047

Kevin and I enjoyed another Halloween Party too – wearing our same Steam Punk costumes, but this time Kevin’s “goggles” arrived, so he used those and I got to use his old ones. This time around we won ‘Best overall costume’! It was a fun party with an outdoor scavenger hunt and a beer pong tournament.  I played with Suzy and Kevin played with Bob – but they had to leave before the tournament was over. Suzy and I made it to the finals – so Kevin took Suzy’s place, and we ended up winning, lol! It was pretty fun and we are holders of the champion “trophy” until next year’s party. DSC_0029 IMG_20151030_214436623-2 IMG_20151031_141100775

DSC_0617Trick or Treat! Get ready to see a lot of Cookie Monster here. We’ve had a busy couple of weeks and I’m behind getting this post put together! Our Little Cookie Monster had quite a fun week and I enjoyed being home from work using some of my time off.  Our week began on Sunday with some shopping to wrap up our renovations. Grandma and Grandpa Armstrong came up to watch Finn for the afternoon so we could have a productive afternoon and Finn could have a nap! It was a beautiful afternoon and they played some outside.DSC_0559 DSC_0551 DSC_0554 DSC_0557

Lily’s 6th birthday was on the 28th. As we normally do, we celebrated with Party hats, toys, and cupcakes though this year I didn’t get many photos. The best part was watching Finn and Lily play several good games of tug-of-war with her new toy. Both Finn and Sammy liked putting the party hats on Cam and Lily, the girls however, didn’t much care to wear them. Mom and dad came down one day too for shopping fun at Easton. Amy and the kiddos, and Debbie and Sammy joined joined us for lunch at North Star Cafe where we were able to site outside on the patio for lunch. Afterwards we did a bit more shopping and Finn went home for a nap. The Bethune’s toughed it out for some shoe shopping, where they were each given a balloon! DSC_0567 DSC_0562 DSC_0572 DSC_0579 DSC_0583 DSC_0588IMG_20141028_120903403IMG_20141028_120945279_HDRIMG_20141028_145931794_HDRDebbie, Sammy, and Finn carved pumpkins too. I was shocked that Finn really didn’t care for the seeds and goo of the inside of the pumpkin, like, really didn’t care for it!  He warmed up to it a slight bit, but enjoyed playing with the “lid” more than anything! The boys wore their costumes one morning too. Sammy loves Lily so much he wanted to dress like her for Halloween!DSC_0597 DSC_0603 DSC_0596 DSC_0607 DSC_0614DSC_0656

We had a fun evening of pizza and trick-or-treating with friends in Dublin on Thursday. It was a really nice fall night, perfect for a good walk. Finn filled his pumpkin pretty good! DSC_0616 DSC_0629DSC_0620 DSC_0633 DSC_0639

However, for the second year in a row, Trick or Treat night in Powell was super cold and rainy.  Boo! We had fun nonetheless. Grandma and Grandpa Armstrong came to see Finn for Trick or Treat and they manned our house while we took Finn out during a break in the weather. He absolutely loved it. He and Kevin would ring the doorbell and then he was really good with the “treat” part of “trick or treat” and then he followed up with a nice “tank too”. We only had 11 trick-or-treaters so between Finn’s amazing haul and our leftovers we have a crazy amount of candy here! Kevin and his dad also spent time putting up some new light fixtures that evening – the best of which is the amazing new light in our family room, yay! Kevin had the biggest smile on his face once it was on. That room has always been so dark and never had an overhead light – it is SO MUCH BETTER now!  Yay for a talented husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law who figured out how to do it 🙂DSC_0664 DSC_0673 DSC_0703 DSC_0686 DSC_0696 DSC_0691DSC_0693 DSC_0707 DSC_0662 DSC_0699And the weekend included a fun night out with friends to celebrate Sarah’s big 40th birthday with dinner, a lovely cake decorated by Laura, and line-dancing complete with lessons! Clearly, Sarah and I I need to find cow-girl hats!sarah_bday-2IMG_20141101_203152132_HDR
