October 22, 2017 ~ 22 weeks

This was a big week around here! First, we got the news back regarding Brutus’ growth on his back right leg – it is a benign histocytoma. Whew, I was thankful to hear the news. He saw Dr. Mansfield at our vet practice and I really like how she interacts with our dogs and her personal phone calls to give us information. She is great!

Next up: a trip to Portland, Oregon for me! I agreed to go on this trip for work back in July, and honestly since then I’ve been wondering why I said yes! I’ve never been away from Reid and certainly didn’t leave Griffin when he was this young. It ended up being a good trip and a fast one as I was gone less than 72 hours! Sadly, we were in meetings the entire trip and I had no time to see the city. Literally, didn’t even see it in the daylight as we left for the seminars when it was darkish in the morning (it was raining there) and we were finished when the sun had set! I didn’t snap a single photo other than my breakfast one morning and a coffee I grabbed at the airport on our way home. We flew in at night and out on a red eye so I didn’t even see the city from overhead. Maybe one day we’ll head back for a vacation. I’m thankful that Jim and Pat were able to come stay with Kevin to help with Reid and Griffin. Reid spent the first night in his crib during the night while I was away!  These are a few pics from the morning I left. As always Brutus tried to insert himself for some lovin’ too.
Brutus reminds me so much of Cammie. He loves the sunshine and loves to just soak it in. He’ll lay in the sun on the hot black driveway or on the patio. I regularly find him inside in our bedroom or in the dining room soaking in the rays.  Griffin had lots of fun while I was away too. Debbie and the kids made applesauce and even Reid got in on the action. Oh, and Brutus too, of course. He’s never far from the activity.  Debbie took Griffin to his soccer practice this week. I was happy to see this pic in the app while I was traveling to Portland. 🙂 Grandpa got a lot of outdoor time with Griffin during their stay. Here they are getting in a game of Lacrosse after I got home. It was a beautiful and sunny Friday morning! Here is some more of Griffin’s artwork from this week. The fire department visited preschool and they learned all about fire safety and were able to see the fire truck visit school.  On Saturday we took advantage of the beautiful weather and went to Young’s for Reid’s first fall trip there. We got several of our traditional pics that we took when Griffin was little, sitting on the cows and riding the wagon to go pick a pumpkin. Griffin picked a lovely orange fella. Afterward he and daddy played putt putt and then we enjoyed dinner at the Jersey Inn. Reid is so ready to eat big boy food. He talks and moans and watches me eat every time I’m holding him while I’m eating. Soon enough big guy!

We have had a pretty busy week around here, so much that we really don’t have too many photos of new things, just lots in the car seat!

Griffin continues to sleep well in his room at night. We place him on his back or side, and by morning we find him on his tummy. He’s developed a new routine of waking up poo-y every morning, just like clock work. He has been waking between 6:30-7:30 am pretty regularly. We’re still working on the daytime naps and his being able to sooth himself back to sleep as he is regularly waking 15-20 mins into his nap.

The week was filled with plenty of activity getting prepared for our first week-long family vacation to the beach! After much packing, we left home around 11 am Friday. We were off on a great start – Finn slept for 4 hours straight in his car seat while we drove along. He was great in the car the entire time and was quite pleasant even when he wasn’t sleeping. He didn’t really sleep very well during the day Saturday so we’re hoping to turn things around once we get settled in. He has been a stellar sleeper at night, logging 8 hours Friday night and just slept almost 9 hours last night.  The preceding 6 hours weren’t filled with much rest for our little guy.

I rode in the backseat with Finn almost the entire trip while Kevin drove. Finn ate on the go and he was a champ!

Once we arrived in Ocean Isle we stopped at Sharky’s, a restaurant we liked from our visit last year, for a late pizza lunch. There Griffin was held for the first time, by a couple of women we met at the restaurant who sat next to us. We are in the south where everyone is quite friendly so she just put her arms out and said “come over here!”. It was cute and despite being over tired they had fun holding him.

Finn ~ 19 weeks

Well we hit another milestone this week (at least for me!). We transitioned Finn to his room and sleeping in his crib at night, beginning on Sunday. He has done magnificent!  The first night he awoke around 4 am, and he cried pretty good for 10-15 minutes. Kevin checked on him and gave him his pacifier and he fell back asleep. He slept until 7:15 am, so for the night it was about 7 hours and 15 minutes.  Monday night he had a similar pattern, waking around 4:30 am. Kevin brought him in around 5:30 and we fed him as it had been 8.5 hours since he had eaten. We still thought that was really good!

Tuesday I headed up to Mansfield for the funeral of a dear woman I have known since I was a child in pre-school, Mrs. Bumpus. She was the sweetest lady, almost like a grandma to me. I first met her while I was in pre-school and since we attended the same church I would see her every week. As I got older I worked in the “Crib room” with her, which was the nursery where you watched the babies/infants during the church service. I kept in touch with her throughout college we would write notes to each other. She often sent me cards in the mail even for our wedding this past year. I often enjoyed being able to see her in Mansfield during the Christmas holiday. I will always remember she made the most amazing holiday treats – including the best caramel corn I’ve ever had, peanut brittle, and iced sugar cookies that were as perfect as I’ve ever seen. She moved to Tennessee about 2 years ago as she was growing older and needed the assistance of her family there. I took Finn with me on the trip, and her daughter and son-in-law told me she thought she had a great-grandson (Finn) and he was on her mantel.  So sweet, she was 91. He are some pics of Grandma and Grandpa having some fun with Finn.

We also received a nice package from Uncle John and Aunt Lora this week with some cute things for Finn.  Here he is with his Pacimal, an animal that has a pacifier attached!  He loved it, as you can see here.

The rest of the week was pretty low-key. Finn continued to sleep really well, so well that I texted Tricia and asked her to wake him up on Wednesday morning at 9:30 – he had slept 9 hours and 40 minutes!  Wednesday night he slept just under 8 hours, and Thursday night he slept just under 10.  Man, this boy is liking his room! I wish he were still in our room, but the truth be told he was outgrowing the cosleeper! He would lay there and run his fingernails up and down the sides as he could reach both sides at the same time with his arms stretched.

I’ve been trying to get him to roll over more lately. He has done it numerous times, and often awakes on his belly in the morning.  But Kevin had yet to see him actually do it.  So Friday evening I took the camera and we had a little photo shoot to demonstrate his abilities to daddy.  Then, of course, Saturday he demonstrated in person, yay Finn!  Of course it helped that Cameron was there giving him a bit of a reason to roll. They enjoyed each other as you see here.

And here is Finn picking up one of his dad’s favorite habits: biting on paper towels!

And here are a few from this morning to wrap up the week. He continues to be enamored with his hands and feet! And he has begun to scratch himself with his nails!
