August 12, 2018 – We have a walker!

The boys have had a fun summer with Jenn and though it seems hard to believe – this is her last week with us before she heads back to college in South Carolina! It was a blessing to find her so quickly in May and feel comfortable with her from the beginning, especially given her background in nursing! She cared for the boys really well and certainly has a gift of organizing. She regularly went through the boys clothes and sorted/organized them by size and made stacks of the ones they no longer fit in to – and she labeled everything! She re-organized the pantry, fridge, chest freezer, and so many other things – she was super helpful! Each day this week she had a fun activity for the boys including a Lollipops concert in Powell, a trip to the zoo, baking chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, and believe or not – she was able to capture Reid walking on his own for the first time! She sent me the sweetest videos on Wednesday, 8/8, of him walking through the kitchen and up in the loft. We didn’t see it ourselves for a day or two as by the evening he was tuckered out and didn’t want to perform. So we’re thankful to have the videos from Jenn! This week was our first school function at Tyler Run with Meet the Teacher night on the playground. We met Mrs. Menary, picked up a kindergarten info packet, and met a few friends on the playground. It was a warm one that night too – but Griffin had so much fun checking out the playground! We tried our best to get Reid to walk before Jenn left on Friday, but he wasn’t having it! Here are a couple video’s from Jenn and the last one we captured later on Friday evening – it was the sweetest moment of Reid walking to Finn and giving him a great hug.

Is there anything better than playing in the rain? Not for Griffin! First some bike riding, then puddle jumping, then fielding balls off the backboard (pretty smart idea, eh?).

I’ve been bitten by the shrub-trimming bug recently. We had a few shrubs that were so overgrown it was making mowing the lawn challenging for Kevin. So I started by trimming the dogwood by the driveway and it just went from there! Major shrub trimming such that we had someone come haul away all of the brush – which filled the back of the 1-800-got-junk dump truck about 3/4 full! We really thinned out the front (below) giving much more light to the evergreens there as well as our new Maple. We also trimmed the forsythia and lonicera on the east side of the house and the lilac and spicebush on the west side near the screened in porch.  So.much.brush.  One of my favorite things to do outside! After the weather cleared we headed to the zoo for a brief evening trip where, amongst other things, we rode the dinosaur boat ride and the carousel.   After church on Sunday we had lunch with the Mannings. Totally unplanned and last minute and it was the best time! We talked about many things, but the main thing was small group and how ours will no longer be. The Mannings and Conrads both are stepping back from leading C-group as they are investing their time in other ways at church right now (Kara heading Stillwater in the interim until we find a new youth pastor and Sarah helping with Middle School stillwater). While I find it sad that we no longer have our group, we’re also in a stage of life that seems so busy it may be nice to have less on our plate. Time will tell. While we were at the Mannings Reid took a nap on Kevin, which is super rare, and Kevin really loved the snuggles.
And here are some succulent babies that we picked up at Mom and Dad’s (after the Corso’s trip we stopped there to visit their gardens and pick up vacation stuffs) and took back to Millcreek to propagate. They are growing like gangbusters.

DSC_0739We started the week by heading to Menard’s on a sunny Sunday. It was the first time Finn got out of his stroller and walked through a store, as opposed to being carried! He was quite proud of himself, gauging by the huge smile on his face, and loved pushing the stroller about. And he expended quite a bit of energy!

The weather is finally beginning to get a little bit warmer and my work is slowly picking up the pace, but I was able to get home one night early enough that we went out to eat together at Liberty Tavern. There was live music which we all enjoyed, but Finn especially, as he bounced around in his high chair.  DSC_0596 DSC_0594 DSC_0590

Finn is growing by leaps and bounds and continues to babble and say new words all the time. He says things like more, uh oh, down, duck, daddy, dada, momma, doggie, dog dog, and nana (for banana) as a start. He’s very good at mimicking sounds and words and mocking noises.  And when he spies you smiling at his cuteness, he often scrunches his nose and does his snorting trick – kinda like, yeah, I’m cute! We absolutely love having Debbie and Sammy come each day. Debbie has been teaching Finn things like shaking his head yes and no, where is your belly, hair, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, etc. He has the shaking his head no and pointing to his belly and hair mastered already :0). She often has a theme for the week, which is so fun to come home to art projects of painting, coloring, and so on. This week they made easter eggs and painted with their feet!

IMG_20140402_220547419photo-2 photo (1)-2This weekend was a busy one, as I’ve begun working at Millcreek on the weekend and Kevin helped his brother Brett, and Missy, move into their new house! What fun (and a lot of work!). He had a good time and while he was away, Finn and I went to our friend Audrey’s 4th birthday party. It was loads of fun on a nice and sunny afternoon that we spent outside, and with his cuzzies to boot! Andy and I took the role of paparazzi and snapped lots of photos. Finn enjoyed chocolate cake and came home exhausted!IMG_20140405_161458232 IMG_20140405_161614722 IMG_20140405_161557217 IMG_20140405_161058626 IMG_20140405_161655522 IMG_20140405_161657822 IMG_20140405_161707228 IMG_20140405_155830204 IMG_20140405_160431961 IMG_20140405_160441318 IMG_20140405_171449406Kevin ended up spending the night in Enon, so Finn and I had a mommy and son weekend. We enjoyed some cuddles, Sesame Street, and play time with the “doggies!”.DSC_0743 DSC_0742 DSC_0736 DSC_0733 DSC_0729 DSC_0727 DSC_0726 DSC_0725 DSC_0699 DSC_0697 DSC_0693 DSC_0691 DSC_0681 DSC_0672 DSC_0668 DSC_0663 DSC_0659

I’m excited that we are planning a fruit and veggie garden this year! We plan on planting a raised bed in the backyard, so while at Menard’s we bought some seeds and starter soil and on Wednesday night (4/2) we planted our seeds! We have started watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, butternut squash, peppers and in our window greenhouse we’ve planted chives, cilantro, and basil.  Yummers! As of today, Sunday 4/6 they have all begun to germinate!IMG_20140402_214331644 IMG_20140331_212540096 DSC_0751 DSC_0755 DSC_0757 DSC_0761

We are on the move around here! Forgive the somewhat fuzzy pictures, but lately it’s hard for me to take a photo that is in focus! A combination of Finn’s speed and my lack of camera skills. In any case, it’s pretty representative of our days around here. We’ve posted a couple of videos this week too so you can see Finn’s full personality.

My work is beginning to pick up and I think once (if ?) the weather ever actually breaks we are going to get slammed beyond belief.  I’ve been enjoying Finn’s schedule in the evenings lately as he’s asleep when I leave in the morning.  It’s been working out that he wakes up from his late afternoon nap sometimes as late as 6:30 or 7, so I get in some fun play time and cuddles before I put him down for bed. And he’s so cute at bed time. He is sleepy, yet happy, and cuddles and babbles quite a bit.  Warms my heart.

Lots of photos on the go this week.  Finn still crawls and cruises to get around, but he definitely is walking more and more with every day. And, what I hope, is the last pictures of the yard looking like winter through the windows! Hoping to use these shades outside soon! IMG_20140324_210252287 IMG_20140324_210305353 IMG_20140324_210318190014032695184641 DSC_0007 DSC_0023 DSC_0060 DSC_0077 DSC_0080 DSC_0094 DSC_0107 DSC_0123 DSC_0125 DSC_0126 DSC_0127 DSC_0151 DSC_0157DSC_0178 DSC_0187 DSC_0198 DSC_0201 DSC_0203 DSC_0207 DSC_0210 DSC_0213 DSC_0221 DSC_0227 DSC_0231 DSC_0233 DSC_0237 DSC_0238 DSC_0240 DSC_0241 DSC_0246 DSC_0247 DSC_0255 DSC_0257 DSC_0260

Saturday morning we went to the Columbus Museum of Art where we met Amy to have a family photo shoot. We’re excited to see those photos! There was far more children’s activities and interactive exhibits than I had ever imagined. That evening Finn and I enjoyed some momma and son time while Kevin was out with friends. We enjoyed dinner together followed by Sesame Street. He just loves to watch that show!IMG_20140329_173101547
